June 10th, 2009 at 03:55 am Well done Ron. I rarely watch the Daily Show but loved watching Cramer and the Crossfire guys squirm. Stewart truly is an anomaly, and I wish there were more people like him around. I agree that we need a separation between corporations and news, but I fear that the general public are a good 30-50 years too late in realizing there is a massive conflict of interest there. Does anyone honestly think that corporations are going to relinquish the stronghold they possess over modern media and the news? There is a responsibility to get the news - and the truth - out there. Especially when, like you said, we need it to make decisions that will have an impact on a global level. In my opinion the reality here is that the old formula is failing (as you've just reported) so it's time to start a new one. That means a few things: At the very least, educate your loved ones or your community at a grass roots level about the lack of truth in news corporations, i.e. most news, and encourage them to do research for themselves. Next, think outside of the box, and create or look for new outlets for information and new ways to broadcast it without being easily corrupted. (who would've though the Daily Show would have turned into a place people turn to to get to the bottom of things? But alas, C.C. is corporate owned as well) Websites are a good place to start, but the real solution is yet to be discovered. There is an answer out there though, and that's exciting. Lastly, cherish people like Stewart while they are around and making a difference. Because it's possible that soon they won't be.
June 10th, 2009 at 10:12 am Great article! Loved the arrangement of clips to back up/add to the article. Ron did a fantastic job explaining what is really going on in news corporations today.
June 10th, 2009 at 11:47 am Ron, these clips are shocking! I had been told about this Cramer interview by a number of friends, but hadn't yet watched it. Cramer's hypocrisy is despicable. I recently read a book that might peak your interest: True Enough: Learning to Live in a Post-Fact Society by Farhad Manjoo Thank you for article. I will certainly forward it to friends.
June 10th, 2009 at 01:13 pm Good article, Ron! Hope to see more writing and films and shows from you. We need voices like yours out there. More Jon Stewarts for my friends!
June 10th, 2009 at 05:04 pm wow ron, you really hit it on the head man.
June 11th, 2009 at 08:29 am great stuff. there is nothing more entertaining and educational than the stewart/colbert combo
June 11th, 2009 at 12:32 pm good show god show
June 11th, 2009 at 03:30 pm Great article!
June 11th, 2009 at 03:38 pm I don't normally watch Jon Stewart, but I really enjoyed watching and listening to him present his views. It was very eye opening and truly hit home and gave me so much to think about. Your article was well written and very informative. I really enjoyed being enlightened about the underlying "shananigans" that unfortunately are part of our American society. You did such an amazing job! Looking forward to reading more from you! :)
June 11th, 2009 at 05:34 pm Funnier than the show!
June 11th, 2009 at 06:33 pm I don't know about funnier than the show. Well written article. Stewart has managed to shake the comedian stigma and become kind of a legit journalist.
June 13th, 2009 at 11:29 pm "We the people are no longer told the truth" I'm sorry but We the People have never been told the truth. Media's job has never been to tell the truth, it's been to sell product/advertising. Nothing more. If you think any one program has your best interest in mind then they've done their job, you've not done yours.
June 15th, 2009 at 11:19 am "We the people are no longer told the truth" "I'm sorry but We the People have never been told the truth." I disagree with this statement....watch Bill Moyer on PBS or KCRW's Left Right and Center. 60 Minutes has brought to light many very unpopular things from torture in Iraq to how tobacco really effects us. To say we have NEVER been told the truth is in itself false. To have such low expectations and to just surrender the desire for the News to be honest is something I am afraid I will not give up. I think this article makes a distinction between "Media" and "News" also. Media is going to lie to you but the "News" should be held more accountable and to a higher standard If we go in with this notion of "nothing will ever be better" than we will fail before we begin. I just see things differently but I respect your feelings on the situation.
