‘Women In Space’ To Venture Into Deep Abyss Of HBO

To the credit of the premise, those pants ARE hilarious.

While HBO will be hurting for dramatic series after the completion of Boardwalk Empire and The Newsroom following their upcoming seasons, they still haven’t forgotten the importance of laughter. What’s the shortest way to laughter? Women in Space, of course!

Writer/director Jay Roach and writer Kristen Gore are working up a half-hour comedy that follows a team of women astronauts as the endeavor to colonize a planet. I could see that being pretty funny. Though they are legally obligated to cast Melissa McCarthy, no such announcement has come forth…yet.

Further details are sketchy, but Roach has a well-worn path into the HBO lineup with such films as Game Change and Recount. It’s nice to see he’s doing something that won’t totally depress us about the state of politics in America.
