The reasons that sitcoms resort to gimmicks is, no mater how transparent they are, they seem to work most of the time. Except for that backwards Seinfeld episode. That was the worst.

So it should come as no surprise that, amidst a national epidemic of LEGO fever, The Simpsons fared about 20% than usual last night with its LEGO episode. Now, I'm sure with the expense and marketing behind it, the producers were hoping for/expecting a higher number, but with the show getting some of its worst ratings in history these days, any upward movement is welcome.

It might not even be the LEGOs that gave the show its boost. Bob's Burgers stayed flat, but every other show on FOX's Sunday night showed moderate to significant gains. Way to go cartoons. You show HBO who's boss.

Note: HBO is still boss.
