In news that's funny only because it's completely random and completely unsurprising at the same time, Netflix has announced they're taking yet another venture out into the world of original programming, this time telling the story of Marco Polo, the traveller who was known for setting sale to the orient and discovering many fish out of water.

The Weinstein Company produced the nine-episode series for Starz, but Starz got cold feet, possibly because they could think of better ideas for a show. Variety states the show will contain "martial arts, sexual intrigue, political skullduggery, and spectacular battles."

You had me at "sexual skullduggery."

The directors of the pilot, Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, have also teamed up to make the next Pirates of the Caribbean film. Yuck.
