NBC, still operating under the assumption that something that was once popular as a movie or TV show will once again be very popular as a TV show, even if it is appearing on a watered-down, flawed network, will be adapting Nick Hornby's About a Boy as a series.

While the motivations and strategy are dubious, the team in place is a fairly strong one, with Driver acting alongside David Walton, Jason Katims of Friday Night Lights producing, and Jon Favreau, the Elf and Ironman helmer, directing the pilot.

Network television has lost footing to cable networks in its ability to convey realism and grit to those series that require it, and while About a Boy certainly has those requirements, hey, stranger things have happened.
