At the Marvel panel at Comic-Con (which I'm guessing is a pretty big deal), it was announced, in the wake of news that James Gunn will be writing and directing the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, that the franchise will also spinoff an animated series.

It's no surprise that the series will air on Disney XD, considering the recent(ish) acquisition of Marvel by Disney. The property will join Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., which are both getting picked up by the network for second seasons. Seriously, there's a cartoon called Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., and it's getting a second season.

Marvel is seems to be going fairly apeshit with its expansion since the Disney synergy emerged. In addition to the half-dozen secret movie release dates, they've got Daredevil on Netflix, Marvel's Agent Carter coming to television, and probably fourteen other things I'm forgetting because there are just too damn many.
