When you get in your childless mid-30s, Christmas takes on a pretty different dynamic. You’re too old for presents and the lore, almost too old to keep coming home, and you don’t have any younger offspring to pass the magic onto.
So, if you’re Seth Rogen, Lizzie Caplan, Anthony Mackie, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, you get together with your friends and drink. That’s my guess. The only thing really known about the plot is that the characters get together every Christmas and that Gordon-Levitt and Caplan have a romantic thing going on.
Anyway, it will be nice to see Rogen with an ensemble cast that wasn’t curated by Judd Apatow (though Rogen’s work with Kevin Smith was far worse in Zack and Miri Make a Porno) and Jonathan Levine did a great job with 50/50 starring Joe and Seth, so let’s hope this is capable of being funny and having a heart.
Cause, you know. It’s Christmas.
