HBO Picks Up Russian Spy Drama, Makes Me Distrustful Of Guy Who Sold Me Stereo
And make a show about them too.
The cable network is developing the project, "Reds", with Pirates Of Silicone Valley writer-director Martyn Burke based loosely on his early film career about Russians who lead a double-life in America.
In the 1980's, Burke was traveling with a camera crew unaware that the sound guy was actually a colonel in the soviet KGB. In hindsight, it was probably odd that he was always sticking his boom mic into private conversations. The man later moved outside the New York area and attempted to assimilate his family and raise them alongside Americans. He was eventually caught. Twas his fondness for blue jeans and excessive laughter at Yakov Smirnoff jokes that was his undoing. (Deadline)
