30 Rock, Mad Men and John Adams Go On Emmy-Winning Spree
No one expects you to actually watch the Emmy Awards Show. I have an unnatural relationship with TV and I can barely make it through them without falling asleep. But, that doesn't mean we can't criticize their choices from the comfort of our office chairs the morning after they happen.
Predictably, Tina Few and the rest of the 30 Rock crew snagged a sack full of seven awards, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Alec Baldwin, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Fey and Outstanding Comedy Series. It really is a great show and they deserved to win, but you can't help but feel bad for The Office for having to sit there and lose so many times.
On the drama side of things, Mad Men (six wins) and HBO's John Adams (13 wins) both won more than their fair share of trophies, leaving our good buddy Dexter feeling even more murderous than before. I'm not going to list off all of the awards that they won, because you can just use Wikipedia's handy chart of winners.
What you'll notice when you go over there is that somehow, The 80th Annual Academy Awards won an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety or Music Program. Have we really fallen so far as a culture that we're giving award shows awards? Maybe we can start having commercials for other commercials, too.
