Earlier this week, we here in the Internet were given quite a shock when we heard that Community is being “temporarily” pulled from NBC‘s schedule. The general consensus was something along the lines of, “They can’t pull Community! That’s my #1 source of Community!”
While we hope for the best and brace for the worst, we can’t help but wonder what will happen to the show’s talented cast. Are they really expected to give up the best job in the world? And if they are to-be canceled, what of the fans? Don’t they know that when you entertain someone on national television, your body makes a promise whether you do or not?
Luckily, we have a good feeling that these kids will be all right. Especially Donald Glover. He’s enjoyed success with all of his ventures in the past few years and doesn’t show any signs of slowing. He is the second most popular Donald on IMDb, afterall. He’s coming for you, Donald Sutherland.
So don’t fret, fans of Community. There are alternative ways to enjoy Donald Glover.
The career Donald Glover has today is thanks in large part to the Internet sketch comedy group DERRICK. He gained popularity from the short videos the group would produce and put on the web, which lead to the self-produced film Mystery Team as well as writing jobs with The Daily Show and 30 Rock.
After success in acting, sketch and film writing, Glover decided to raise his persona by trying out stand-up comedy. Spoiler alert: he’s really good at it, and was given his own special on Comedy Central. It only makes sense that the Just For Laughs festival would bestow him with the Rising Star In Comedy award later that year. His one hour special WEIRDO will debut on Comedy Central this Sunday night.
You’ve gotta go with momentum. That’s why Glover is parlaying his Community fame into a music career. Using a name he found from a Wu Tang name generator, he raps as Childish Gambino (the Wu generator named me Gorky’s Zygotic Glove Puppet. Advantage: Glover). His song “Freaks and Geeks” appeared in an Adidas commercial and his debut album, CAMP, is now available in stores.
