Ghosts, POWs, British accents, "power animals", and A SELF-DESTRUCTING WHALE. This weekend’s TV Preview will coat you in blubber.
CHECK OUT WHAT TO WATCH AFTER THE JUMP
NOTE: ALL TIMES EASTERN AND PACIFIC!!!
FRIDAY, AUGUST 21st
Time: 9 – 10PM
Reasons to watch: Having starred in A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: The Dream WarriorsPatricia Arquette is no stranger to demonic stalkers that enter her dreams. So dealing with the demon that invades her visions in tonight’s episode should be old hat by now. Meanwhile, her husband steals the plot of an Eddie Murphy movie when he has his clairvoyant daughter make stock market predictions for him.
Time: 11PM – 1:15AM
Reasons to watch: Werner Herzog adapted this film from his 1997 documentary Little Dieter Needs To Fly. Good call on the title change. ‘Little Dieter’ doesn’t conjure up gritty Vietnam images for me. It sounds more like what Schwarzenegger would call his wang.
WHO’S ON LATE
Christina Applegate; Patton Oswalt; Brendan Benson
Eva Mendes; Christopher Mintz-Plasse; the Dead Weather
Seth Rogen; Melissa Sagemiller; Jack’s Mannequin
Dylan McDermott; Wendy Williams; chef Sam Talbot
SATURDAY, AUGUST 22nd
ROB DYRDEK’S FANTASY FACTORY
Time: 8 – 8:30PM
Reasons to watch: In order to prepare for a big jump, Rob calls in a shaman to help him find his inner "power animal". I’m not sure what my "power animal" is but once I find out I’m having it airbrushed on a black t-shirt in triplicate.
THE WHALE THAT EXPLODED
Network: NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC
Time: 11PM – MIDNIGHT
Reasons to watch: While en route to a university lab to be studied, a dead sperm whale mysteriously explodes on the streets of Taiwan. A bystander was quoted as saying, "What a stinking mess. This blood and other stuff that blew out on the road is disgusting, and the smell is really awful. This whale debris has brought dishonor to my senses."
SUNDAY, AUGUST 22nd
Time: 8 – 10PM
Reasons to watch: A scheduling conflict prevented Jason Statham from appearing in Guy Ritchie’s comeback film. Which is a shame because it does heavily feature guns, violence, cars, and shirtlessness.
Time: 10 – 11PM
Reasons to watch: Back in its third season, the ’60s-set drama is going strong. In tonight’s episode, the Drapers have Don’s new British boss over for dinner. I didn’t know that British people existed in the ’60s but then again I huff keyboard cleaner.
