The Vampire Diaries Episodes: Teenagers, Vampires, and Long Lost Love

From "The Sun Also Rises" to "As I Lay Dying," many fans have picked their favorite of "The Vampire Diaries" episodes. "The Vampire Diaries" is an American television series that premiered on The CW Television Network on September 10, 2009. The series focuses on the love triangle of school‘ target=’_blank’>high school girl, Elena Gilbert (played by Nina Dobrev) and two vampir brothers, Stefan and Damon, in the fictional town Mystic Falls, Virginia.

Season 2, Episode 22: "As I Lay Dying."

As the season two finale of "The Vampire Diaries," "As I Lay Dying" has a lot of drama, plot twists and a shocking revelation. The lives of people are put in jeopardy because of the sacrifice ritual. Damon becomes confused, and he mixes up thoughts of Elena from the present with his lover from 1864, Katherine. While trying to keep everyone safe, Sheriff Forbes makes a horrible mistake. Stefan tries to prevent tragedy at the cost of hurting himself.

Season 2: Episode 21: "The Sun Also Rises."

Filled with betrayal, action and heartbreak, "The Sun Also Rises" left "The Vampire Diaries" fans shocked. This episode focuses on the importance of family and the things characters will do to protect people close to them. Tyler has to face his second transformation, Klaus gets what he planned as the body count rises higher and Damon tells Stefan the truth about new developments.

Season 2, Episode 1: "The Return."

After the finale of season one, "The Return" premiered with even more plot twists and shocking events. Damon realizes that Katherine has returned, and she worries Stefan and Damon about her intentions–if she will hurt people and of what she wants. Elena comes home to hear about the fate of Uncle John and Jeremy while Tyler mourns over his late father.

Season 1, Episode 22: "Founder's Day."

One of the most shocking "The Vampire Diaries" episodes, "Founder's Day" brings destruction and death to Mystic Falls, Virginia. While Elena focuses on fixing her relationship with Jeremy, Damon changes his attitude towards her, causing Stefan to become uncomfortable. Caroline tries to repair the broken relationship between Matt and Tyler. Johnathan Gilbert sets a destructive plan in motion that causes despair and chaos in "The Vampire Diaries" world.

Season 1, Episode 1: "Pilot."

This episode will always be beloved by fans, because it is the start of the entire story. Elena, a popular, perfect high school student and her younger brother, Jeremy, struggle to heal from the recent death of their parents. While Elena tries to appear perfect and happy, Jeremy deals with his pain by using drugs. With the arrival of Stefan and Damon, Elena opens her mind to romantic possibilities.
