The "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" cast brings to life Joss Whedon's vision of a cute town and prepp high school that fronts for the portal to Hell and the undead. A cheerleader and virtual prom queen named Buffy are all that stands to save mankind from the apocalypse. The premise goes together as well as the Joker and mental health, but the entire cast pulls it off with great humor and pathos. Over the seasons, each actor grew in their respective roles and careers after the TV show. The cast of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" receive praise for taking a mediocre movie years ago and turning it into a memorable series that fans have come to love.

Sarah Michelle Gellar.

The blonde actress played the titular character as a valley girl turned into a butt-kicking machine against the undead in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." The evolution of her role took many twists and turns beyond a typical action/horror fare throughout the show's run thanks to Joss Whedon's direction. She has parlayed the show's success into movies like "Cruel Intentions" and "The Grudge." She also married actor Freddie Prinze, Jr.

David Boreanaz.

He portrayed the tortured immortal soul of Angel who fell in love with Buffy even though he's a vampire himself. His character's success spawned its own spin off show, "Angel," where he moved to Los Angeles to battle other supernatural baddies (guess gangbangers and crime lords are not as important). This member of the cast moved on to another successful series, "Bones," in which he is also the show's producer.

Alyson Hannigan.

The red head came into "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" as Willow and became a big part of the gang to fight evil ghouls. Her role changed over the seasons from hapless nerd to powerful witch who later has a lesbian relationship (which is a whole lot safer than dating werewolves.) Alyson Hannigan has been in the successful "American Pie" movies and the TV series "How I Met Your Mother."

Charisma Carpenter.

A former cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers football team, she joined the cast of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" as the heroine's foil, Cordelia Chase. The hot actress reprised the role in "Angel" as well as worked in other TV series like "Veronica Mars," "CSI," and "Charmed." Not bad for someone named after an Avon perfume.

Nicholas Brendon.

Nicholas' role as Xander Harris in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was actually his very first acting gig. The cast member played the lovesick hero who secretly cared for Buffy even though another suitor swept her off her feet. The actor has kept busy after the show by working in TV such as "Private Practice" and "Criminal Minds."
