If you've been living under a rock lately, you're probably wondering who the cast of "Jersey Shore" is. "Jersey Shore" is a reality TV show that follows eight young, "Italian" housemates as they spend their summers on New Jersey's famous beach. "Jersey Shore" has garnered a lot of criticism in its tenure, most notably for its stereotypical portrayal of Italian-Americans in a bad fashion. The cast of "Jersey Shore" consists of both professional and temporary actors who may or may not be of actual Italian descent.

  1. Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino If there's anything that Mike is, it's cool. This muscular lead is one of the series' main characters. Mike often finds himself in various "situations," which have gave rise to his subsequent nickname. "The Situation" is of actual Italian-American descent.

  2. Jenni "J-Woww" Farley Jenni is not of Italian descent, as she has described herself as being of both Irish and Spanish heritage. J-Woww is the series' tough girl and she has no problem setting some of the other housemates straight. Jenni underwent breast augmentation surgery on her 21st birthday as a gift to herself.

  3. Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi If there is one thing Snooki is, it's out of control. Polizzi originally premiered on the MTV show "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" and was introduced as Nicole. Polizzi is Chilean but was raised and adopted by Italian-Americans.

  4. Paul "Pauly D" DelVecchio "Pauly D" is of actual Italian-American descent. Also known to most fans as "DJ Pauly D," DelVecchio is a disc jockey in his spare time. Pauly D is known as one of the peacemakers of the house because he prefers humor over conflict.

  5. Ronnie Ortiz-Magro One of the most muscular members of the "Jersey Shore," Ronnie often endorses various fitness products. Ronnie has been consistently going out with Sammi since the series' inception. Ortiz-Magro has both Puerto Rican and Italian heritage.

  6. Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola Sammi Sweetheart is one of the most aggressive and territorial of the castmates. Although very attractive, her superficial nature doesn't make for good relationships in the "Jersey Shore" house. Giancola is Italian-American.

  7. Vinny Guadagnino Vinny is probably the most subdued of the cast of "Jersey Shore." Guadagnino is well-liked among the housemates because his subtle comedy (such as the "grenade whistle") make him an hilarious addition to the crew. Vinny was raised in a traditional Italian-American household.

  8. Angelina Pivarnick Angelina is not well-liked in the "Jersey Shore" house and her constant conflict with nearly every castmate lead to her departures in both season one and two. Pivarnick did not return for season three. She is Polish and Italian-American.

  9. Deena Nicole Cortese Deena is the newest addition to the "Jersey Shore" house (as of season three), coming in after Angelina's falling out. Deena actually auditioned for the first season but didn't make the original cut. She is good friends with Snooki and J-Woww.

The cast of "Jersey Shore" is wide and (in terms of personality) diverse. The idea that all the cast members are the same, stereotypical Italian-Americans is a bunch of nonsense because each cast mate brings something different to the table.
