Now that the disappointment subsided, props are due to Kris for rising to the top despite the big contenders who lost to him.
The boy from a small town to stardom. 2009 "American Idol" winner Kris Allen was then 23-years old from Conway, Arkansas. A nice, reserved young man recently a newlywed, Kris Allen auditioned for "American Idol" and successfully made through to Hollywood. Unlike few of his competitors, Allen's screen time during the auditions rounds did not aired until his group performed during American Idol's Hollywood rounds. During the semi-finals, he singed a song from his idol, the late Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" which easily advanced Allen to the top 13.

Regardless of the attention focus mostly on contestants such as Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey, Kris Allen continue to stay under the radar despite his creativity of rearranging songs to fit his voice and musical style. Although the underdog, Allen stayed safe for seven weeks until he were in the bottom three during Big Band week due to his weak performance of Fred Astaire’s song "The Way You Look Tonight". However, at the end, he remained safe.
From the top 4 to the finale. After Big Band night on "American Idol", Kris Allen redeemed himself during a duet performance with Danny Gokey as they both performed a wonderful rendition of Styx, "Renegade" and Allen perform a solo of Beatles’ "Come Together". His most memorable performance is in the top three, singing Kanye West' "Heartless" with an acoustic guitar. Allen's overall performance were well received by the judges and viewers alike and made it to number sixteen on the Billboard's Hot 100 chart in May 2009. Thanks to his innovative rendition of West's song, Allen beat out Danny Gokey for the spot on "American Idol" season finale, went against top competitor Adam Lambert, and became "American Idol" season nine winner.
Life after Idol. Crowned as the new "American Idol" winner, Kris Allen starred were a guest on numerous of talk shows along with "Idol" judges and contestants as the new winner of the show. He released the "Idol" winner song; "No Boundaries" debuted on iTunes on May 20, 2009 and made it 16th on Hot 100 Billboard chart nine days later. By June 2009, Allen sung the National Anthem at the NBA Finals. Later in September 2010, he released his first single "Live like We're Dying" on Jive Records from his self-titled debut album, which sold 1,582,000 digital copies while his album “Kris Allen” only sold $80,000 in its first week nationwide. On August 28, 2010, he performed at a concert alongside pop-rock band Maroon 5 and went on his first nationwide tour beginning, June 1, 2010 to July 3, 2010. In 2011, Kris Allen went on tour as an opening act for the band, Lifehouse.
