The top 5 anime shows are series that treat viewers to high quality animation, complex storylines and well-developed characters. Many of the plots will leave you scratching your head and drawing theories even after the credits have rolled.

  1. “Cowboy Bebop” – “Cowboy Bebop” is a jazzy anime show about a group of space-age bounty hunters searching for big bucks. Spike Spiegel, a slick space cowboy with a complicated past, is the leading man of the series. The show features many memorable tunes by Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts. Sunrise, Inc. is responsible for this anime masterpiece.

  2. “FLCL” – “Fooly Cooly” – Even though “FLCL” is only six episodes long, writer Yoji Enokido packed a lot of story into such a small amount of time. The plot follows the adventures of Naota, a young man whose boring life beings to spin when he meets an eccentric woman from the stars. This anime show appeals to fans of various genres by incorporating elements of romance, comedy and science fiction.

  3. “Mushi-Shi” - This anime show runs a course that is subtle, deep and undeniably odd. The story follows Ginko, a laidback traveler who investigates supernatural creatures called Mushi. Although they are usually not hostile, these magical entities create a variety of problems for the people Ginko encounters. “Mushi-Shi” draws inspiration from a manga series of the same name. In addition, a live action film premiered in 2007.

  4. “Neon Genesis Evangelion” - Many anime fans will tell you that “Neon Genesis Evangelion” is one twisted show. A description like that might just be an understatement. In this anime show, the futuristic city of Tokyo-3 relies on Eva Units, enormous cyborgs, to fend off hostile angelic creatures. Throughout the series, the main cast of characters proves to be tragically flawed and surprisingly deep specimens. Gainax, the same animation studio responsible for “FLCL,” produced “Neon Genesis Evangelion.”

  5. “Death Note” - This anime show is a supernatural mystery that depicts the madness of Yagami Light, an honors student who comes across a book that grants him the powers of a Death God. Initially, Light intends to use the Death Note to free the world of criminals. However, his noble intentions take a dark turn. The anime is an adaptation of a manga series.
