The cheap-o version of the not particularly enjoyable movie was posted on Amazon with a few other pilots in the first wave of the company’s experiments with original programming. It was the highest profile pilot released but thanks to an absence of quality and an abundance of negative feedback, the series will not be moving forward. In fact, I hear the cast will never work again. Even the ones who hid their faces behind heavy amounts of zombie makeup.

What’s most impressive is how quickly and well this system worked. You have to hate something sooo hard to make it no longer exist. So good job! Now let’s get to work on making the movie version disappear too. Hate until it hurts! (CHUD)

The Return of the Living Dead

Sometimes, in order to escape a mass of zombies, you have to do things you might not otherwise do under normal circumstances. Like in The Return of the Living Dead, unlikely partners Freddy and Spider make a plan to rush to an abandoned police car, swing back to pick up the other two members of their group, and get the hell out of there. But the sheer number of zombies forces Freddy to make a tough choice: They bail on their intended promise and put metal to floor – anything to get away from the zombies. He tells himself they’re going to go back for them, but both Freddy and Spider know the truth: There is no going back.

Dead Alive

Never let it be said that zombie movies don’t have happy endings. In Peter Jackson‘s Dead Alive, Lionel has to do a lot of terrible things to escape his zombie infested suburb, including literally mowing down hundreds of his former friends and family members, and taking a blender to them when the lawnmower stops being effective. But in one of the great zombie escapes – defeats, actually – he kills his giant zombie mother (long story) and walks off into the sunset, arm-in-arm with his girlfriend. If you’re a fan of zombie movies, you know just how rare an escape like this really is.

Night of the Living Dead

One of the recurring themes of zombie movies is that there IS no escape, and that any escape you might make from a horde of unthinking flesh-eating zombies is a temporary respite at best. This idea is captured perfectly in a famous sequence in Night of the Living Dead, in which a mother escapes a group of zombies by fleeing into her basement where she finds her daughter, who’s been turned into one of them too.

Of course, if that were the case, his show would still be a lot better than the January Jones episode.

Meanwhile, Dana Carvey will return to 30 Rockefeller Plaza on February 5th, which brings up an interesting question: really?

I know he’s an SNL legend, and Church Lady can (and should) kick all of Kristen Wiig‘s running characters’ asses, but usually hosts have something to promote or have been working recently. Eh, y’know, screw it. If Mike Myers is there and the whole episode is a giant Wayne’s World reunion, then I say, “party on, Dana Carvey!” *Plays Air Guitar* (TV Squad)

In a recent interview with MTV, director Reuben Fleischer spoke about a possible sequel to his hit film, Zombieland. While he is currently preoccupied with his latest project, 30 Minutes or Less, Fleischer expressed interest in shooting the second installment in 3D…if he shoots it at all.

When it comes to 3D, I feel pretty strongly that you should shoot it in camera. I feel like it just looks so much better. If you’re going to make a 3D movie, go ahead and make a 3D movie. I would definitely, if we do’Zombieland 2,’ make it in 3D and want to shoot it in 3D.

I’m not sure I totally agree with that statement. Clash of the Titans wasn’t shot in 3D, and the film looked awesome after the conversion. Of course, I never actually watched the film. I just took a bag of mushrooms and stared at the poster until the theater manager asked me to leave. But still, the scene where Liam Neeson craps in the parking lot is amazing. Or was that me? Either way, great movie. (Dread Central)

Director Stephen Sommers may return for the proposed G.I. Joe sequel, Coming Soon is reporting…because they’re obviously bored. Sommers, who directed  G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, would join Channing Tatum, who will reprise his role as Captain Duke Hause. Whooop-dee-do!

What is interesting, however, is that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernic, the writers behind Zombieland, are working on the script. This seems to indicate one of two things. Either the next G.I. Joe film will be a vast improvement over the original, or a certain pair of screenwriters are about to be exposed as frauds. Only time will tell.

Got to get tough, Reese and Wernic!
