A trailer for the nicely reviewed Meek’s Cutoff has finally arrived online and only a few hundred explorers died of dysentery in the process. Not bad.

Starring Michelle Williams, Bruce Greenwood, Will Patton, Zoe Kazan, and Paul Dano, the Oregon Trail western focuses less on fording your little guys across rivers and takes a realistic look at the monotony and suckiness of traveling via covered wagon. Greenwood plays Meek, a hired guide who leads three families to a supposed shortcut but may have sinister intentions. Or he’s just kind of a dumb-ass.

The bleak, non-sensationalized film really puts into perspective the struggles of our ancestors. In today’s modern world, it’s easy to take for granted the sacrifices that had to be made so that we can all smoke some of that really good Portland weed while watching “Tim and Eric.”

Pseudo-hipsters rejoice! Happythankyoumoreplease has enough quirk to tide you and your friends over until Pitchfork Music Festival in July.

Pseudo-hipsters rejoice! Happythankyoumoreplease has enough quirk to tide you and your friends over until Pitchfork Music Festival in July. It would appear that Happythankyoumoreplease (I’m going to get really tired of writing that) is the stillborn lovechild of 500 Days of Summer, Juno, and Away We Go. The backdrop of Manhattan can only carry a film so far before the producers must turn to nuance such as plot and acting. There is a conspicuous lack of Zooey Deschanel in this film, but that is mitigated by the fact that there’s a Zoe Kazan in the cast, so don’t worry. First-time writer/director Josh Radnor has you covered, Zoe-wise.

The plot of Happythankyoumoreplease is hardly groundbreaking: Manhattan 20 and 30-somethings just trying to make it in this crazy world, any way they can. Beyond that, a slacker adopts an orphaned child (Big Daddy what?), Buster Bluth loves a woman with cancer, and a guy that looks like Steve Nash is in a relationship. There’s your film.

I don’t think I’m overextending myself by anticipating an edgy soundtrack full of up-and-coming indie bands and a gimmicky guerilla marketing campaign as we get closer to the March 4th release date. Until then, crack open a cold PBR, don an unnecessary scarf, and check out this trailer.
