Your were not nearly as cool as you think you were during those 4.5 years you spent at junior college, which is why these college movies that never get old.

Higher education arouses deep nostalgia, particularly for those youthful transgressions you just can’t get away with now. Your were not nearly as cool as you think you were during those 4.5 years you spent at junior college, which is why these college movies that never get old. Gather some great material for your own upcoming collegiate hijinks or revel in the sweet memories of those ridiculous times as that evil grin belonging to your 19-year-old self resurfaces Break out your college sweaters, grab some libations and submerge yourself in the funniness of the cinematic college experience.

PCU

David Spade and Jeremy Piven in PCU

Jeremy Piven destroys anything that comes into view with a sarcastic wit that is timeless and perfect for a college movie. Teamed up with a larger Jon Favreau, Piven gives lessons in college etiquette along with an enlightened and useful view of classes to take as a freshman that are the Rosetta Stone of education. PCU takes no hostages among the various factions at their school, demystifying the higher education experience with an almost religious fervor. Roll around in the genius of this movie until you stink of old sheets and older pizza crusts. Pay particular attention to Piven’s advice about overcoming the lack of a car.

Road Trip

Tom Green with a snake in Road Trip

Surpassing adolescence as the premier rite of passage into adulthood is the cross-country car trip with your buds. Road Trip tosses together an unlikely group of friends and acquaintances and sends them across America to take care of a certain mistakenly sent package to one of their girlfriends. An amusing college movie that shows off a deep love for the buddy travel genre, Road Trip bookends the journey with the universally dreaded end of term finals—the heart of the movie is the companions realizing they need to be freed from from thei high school past in order to experience the present.

Old School

Will Ferrell partying in Old School

A soul check of a movie because if you’re not dying of laughter by the time a certain flying tackle into a fountain that takes place, then there’s a probably a good chance you spent your childhood torturing small animals. The college frat gets a remodel when a bunch of guys well past their prime decide they can start up their own—and it steam rolls into the land of belly laughs and snorts from there. The inability to let go of their early twenties is the main center of focus here, but it’ buried under a surface of the classic bonding of miscreants and weirdoes who form the same bonds that a typical fraternity would produce. Will Ferrell is on point in Old School with Vince Vaughn flanking him as they combine into a Voltron of awesomeness making this a college movie you can watch again and again.

Accepted

Justin Long and Jonah Hill in Accepted

Ingenious in its concept about a fake college acceptance letter that snowballs into the need to actually build a fake university to perpetuate the lie, Accepted makes your adolescent fears of not getting in anywhere a reality and then pushes it off a cliff. Timeless is the fear of rejection and the necessity is the mother of invention and all that jazz. Seeing Lewis Black play a dean and eventual professor alone is worth seeing, not to mention you’ll garner some valuable insight into the sheep-like pursuit of higher education. Whaddaya know, you might just learn something.

Back to School

Rodney Dangerfield throwing a football in Back To School

Back to School doesn’t even bother saying hello before it tears into the sanctity of college with wild abandon. Rodney Dangerfield is at his peak as a father who feels out of touch with his son and chooses to attend school with him so they can share the experience. The problem being that Dangerfield plays a rich businessman and therefore knows how money makes the world go round and applies it to his classes and his free time. Quips and one-liners bounce off the scenery with enough slapstick to satisfy any type of comedy lover. Without any need for a moral anchor, this film strives to deliver as much laughter as possible while carrying along a story that’s built on a foundation of the love between a dad and his son.

I'm sure Ferrell will play some sort of unflappable, level-headed dad who never gets pushed to his breaking point.

“I wish I knew how to quit you.”

- Will Ferrell to wacky sports movies

Ferrell held out against that tempting mistress of broad sports comedy for as long as he could, only to find himself back at its doorstep, like a junkie having just slammed his last ration of methadone. And this time, he will lure his The Other Guys co-star Mark Wahlberg into the project as well. Ferrell will be reteaming with director and cohort Adam McKay for Three Mississippi (formerly Turkey Bowl), the story of a neighborly football game that has gotten increasingly contentious everyman. Which means Ferrell will need to go to storage and dust off the “befuddled everyman prone to violent outbursts” temperament, a la Kicking and Screaming. This news comes off news of Ferrell’s teaming with McKay in the buddy comedy Swear To God.

The project does have some promising players with Adam McKay ultimately deciding to helm after working with Ferrell in The Other Guys, and a script from 30 Rock‘s Robert Carlock and Friends producer Scott Silveri. You’ll remember that Friends had a fairly iconic episode with this exact premise in which the gang played the lamest game of touch football ever against each other.

The project should hit theaters by next Thanksgiving, giving Ferrell about seven months to work on his frustrated “DAMMIT!”s before filming begins.

Will Ferrell is being called upon because of his talent for screaming at the Heavens. Warner Bros has bought the pitch Swear To God with the intention of attaching Ferrell and his main man Adam McKay. Written by Due Date scribes Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland, Swear To God stars Ferrell as a hedge fund manager who believes he saw God.

It’s also described as a buddy comedy though there are not details available about who Ferrell will be in a confined space with. Aziz Ansari?
Will he yell at Mark Wahlberg in a thick Boston accent?

UPDATE Buried in the bowels of article this comes from is the additional information that the movie isn’t called Turkey Bowl anymore, because that’s bee taken by some other movie. So the working title is Three Mississippi instead. Go long!

When I first heard the news that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg were reuniting from The Other Guys to play opposing amateur football coaches in Turkey Bowl, I was mildly excited. Now my mild excitement continues, with the news that Wahlberg’s The Departed compatriot Alec Baldwin has signed on to play Wahlberg’s father.

This goes along with the idea that maybe-director (he’s not attached of yet, but he’s “reserve[d] that right”) Adam McKay wants Turkey Bowl stuffed with celebrity cameos. He also is reportedly trying to get Jeremy Renner and Rob Riggle, with presumably many others as well. Here’s an incredibly long and in-depth plot synopsis, straight from McKay’s mouth:

“”It’s about these two rival families from — we’re thinking Philadelphia but we need to check in with Wahlberg and Ferrell and see what kind of accents they want to do. Alec Baldwin is the patriarch of one of the families, and Wahlberg is his son. He saw the Kennedys playing football on their front lawn at Thanksgiving, and boom, that’s it: “Anything the Kennedys do, we’re doing.” His family starts playing the other family that lives across the park from them. Over the years, Baldwin’s family hasn’t done too well — they own a crappy little bar in town — while the other family, which Will’s character eventually becomes the patriarch of, becomes really successful. The game gets nastier and nastier as the years go on, and Ferrell’s family starts just destroying the other family. After a massive heart attack, Baldwin’s character’s dying wish is that his estranged son, Mark, take over the game and finally win one. So Wahlberg has to put this ramshackle, convict, gambling-addict family back together again and beat the richies. The whole spirit of it is that it’s just a giant, fun ensemble comedy. We want to populate it with people we love. There’s a funny subplot with Rob Riggle where he’s a gay cousin that Wahlberg’s family sort of turned their backs on but he played football at Fresno State and they need him. We’re going to try to get Jeremy Renner to play an ex-con. The idea is to bring in, like, 15 people that we love in and just do a big, funny holiday movie.”

Well jeez, Mr. McKay, do we even have to see the movie now? Better be some good cameos, that’s all I’m saying.

A comedy that reunites the titular figures of last year’s The Other Guys is going to be called Turkey Bowl. No, this isn’t a game of entertainment news Mad Libs, it’s Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg‘s latest project, to be written by Robert Carlock, and Scott Silveri of”30 Rock.” And no, it isn’t about a magical bowl that holds an unlimited amount of turkeys (weird joke I know, but what do you expect me to do with Turkey Bowl?):

“Turkey Bowl … stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as guys from football-obsessed towns who lead rival teams in an annual tackle football game for bragging and trash-talking rights.”

If that’s not enough for you, you can expect the football games to be “pack[ed]” with “fun cameos,” like the famous anchorman battles in Anchorman. So start jacking your prices up now, trident manufacturers and distributors of America. Now’s your chance.
Below you will find a list of new films that are being released this weekend, along with the best and worst reviews we could find. I hope you're happy.

Just about every Friday, at least one person emails us to say “Hey, Screen Junkies! What’s playing this weekend?” And every time, I’m forced to reply, “Mom, I’ve friggen told you before, just Google it instead of wasting my damn time I am not your secretary! See, this is exactly why dad left you for that guy who owned the antique store!”

But this week, I’ve decided to take a different approach. Below you will find a list of new films that are being released this weekend, along with the best and worst reviews we could find. I hope you’re happy, mom.

Priest

Priest tells the story of a priest. That’s about it. Oh, wait! There’s more.

New ‘Priest’ Trailer A Work Of Vampire Alarmism

Unlike most priests who do nothing but hear confessions and watch Justin Bieber videos, this priest spends his days killing vampires in a post-apocalyptic hell hole. Insert Detroit joke here.

Best Review
A surprisingly effective piece of genre filmmaking, littered with flaws but none so glaring as to sink the film as a whole.

Thomas Leupp – Hollywood.com

Worst Review
Lately, it feels like there are two things you can count on in a Screen Gems movie. 1) It will suck. 2) It will feature Cam Gigandet. And he will suck.

Alonso Duralde – HitFix

Our Recommendation
With a 19% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, I recommend staying away from this priest like he was Father Geoghan.

bridesmaids

This week seems to be filled with rather obvious movie titles. Priest, Bridesmaids, etc.
<a class='img' href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/jon-hamms-soup-is-done-in-bridesmaids-red-band-trailer/' title='Jon Hamm's Soup Is Done In 'Bridesmaids' Red-Band Trailer'>
Jon Hamm's Soup Is Done In 'Bridesmaids' Red-Band Trailer

In case you couldn’t figure it out, the film is about a group of bridesmaids. Go figure.

Best Review
Is this the female version of The Hangover? No – Bridesmaids is much funnier and way more heartfelt and human than that film.

Devin Faraci – CHUD

Worst Review
Cringe-inducing, uneven, juvenile, overlong and painfully unfunny. It’s a witless blend of crudeness, rudeness and lewdness which sets a new low for American comedy.

Avi Offer – NYC Movie Guru

Our Recommendation
After watching the trailer, I was skeptical. But I should have had more faith in producer Judd Apatow. And since it has an RT ratting of 90%, I’ve gotta say the critics who don’t like this film are definitely in the minority. No, really, I have to say that because 10% is by definition a minority.

Everything Must Go

When a drunken salesmen loses his job and his wife in the same day, he is forced to sell all of his belongings via yard sale to make ends meet.

Will Ferrell Is A Broken And Miserable Man In ‘Everything Must Go’

While this sounds like it could be the plot of your typical Will Ferrell film, it’s anything but.

Best Review
Will Ferrell delivers a performance of implosive intensity that rings true in every detail.

Peter Travers – Rolling Stone

Worst Review
It lives up to its title in ways its maker never intended.

Ty Burr – Boston Globe

Our Recommendation
From the look of it, Will Ferrell is trying to follow in the steps of Bill Murray by proving himself as a dramatic actor. His first outing, Stranger Than Fiction, got the ball rolling. And the mostly positive reviews for Everything Must Go give us no reason to doubt his potential. See for yourself.

Three Warner Bros movies got release dates, so mark your calendars. Or just let the incessant marketing next year remind you. Either way works.

Dark Shadows, a gothy new Tim Burton / Johnny Depp love-fest, opens May 11, 2012. Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green and Helena Bonham Carter also star in this 60′s cult TV show turned feature film. Get ready to see vampires, ghosts and ghouls during the scariest time of the year: mid-May. oooOOOooo.

Rivals, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two guys who I’m sure will not being competing against one another, opens Aug. 10, 2012. It’s the story of two rival political candidates, directed by Jay Roach. I would have hoped they’d be running together on the Frat Party ticket. Ah well.

However, before all that, you and Dwayne Johnson are going on a journey together. Specifically, a Journey 2: The Mysterious Island 3D journey. Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson and Vanessa Hudgens will be along for your crazy ride come Jan. 27, 2012. It’s sure to be a journey… into pure cinematic genius. (Deadline)

Ferrell and Rainn Wilson offer up some spoilers.

Will Ferrell joined “The Office” for Steve Carell’s final three episodes. Now it’s time for him to pack up and go too. The remaining episodes for this season will remove Deangelo Vickers (Ferrell) and make room for even more A-list guest stars.

“It becomes apparent that as bad a boss as Michael Scott seemed at times, my character is 10 times worse,” Ferrell said on Friday at a press conference for his upcoming film Everything Must Go. “He’s a terrible salesperson and he’s oddly conceited at times.”

There are certainly lots of fans who would have liked to see Rainn Wilson take the lead. Dwight fans will get a taste of what a Wilson-starring “The Office” might be like. “There’s an episode coming up very soon called ‘Dwight K. Schrute, Acting Manager,’” Wilson said at his press junket for the movie Hesher. “For one episode, Dwight gets to be manager and it’s very funny. He does have a pet piranha in his office.”

Wilson said he shot scenes with guest star James Spader, but was not involved with any of Jim Carrey’s scenes. He is meeting with the writers to discuss next season though. “Now we’ve just got to figure out what season eight’s all about,” Wilson said. “I’m actually going in later this week to meet with the writers and try to talk to them about it. It’s really mostly up to them but I’ll put in my two cents and see where they’re at and stuff like that.”

As Ferrell departs his month-long legacy at Dunder Mifflin, he’s happy to see what Carrey and Spader will do in his place. “I think it’s great,” Ferrell said. “I think it’s really a credit to Steve that everyone wants to be a part of this storytelling. I thought the episode last night [April 28] was so well done. That was the show at its best in terms of being funny, being poignant. I think he’s been nominated every year for an Emmy and hasn’t won it. If he doesn’t win this year, it’s kind of a travesty. But if I win, it would be less. I hope he wins. He really should. He’s so good.”

“The Office” airs Thursday nights on NBC.

Adam Scott and producer Will Ferrell to pick up where the Catalina Wine Mixer left off.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are moving forward with an adaptation of the hit off-Broadway play Bachelorette, which features “Party Down” alums Adam Scott and Lizzy Caplan, as well as Casey Wilson and Kirsten Dunst. The film will be produced under Ferrell and McKay’s Gary Sanchez production studio.

The film actually has a painfully generic premise: Three best friends are invited to serve at bridesmaids for a girl they taunted in high school. A laundry list of characters from their high school days appear at the wedding, presumably with hilarious results. The $3 million budget sounds promising as well, as both Scott and Caplan have proven they can shine in the indie (read: low budget) paradigm.

Leslye Headland, a former assistant to the Weinsteins and writer for FX’s short-lived “Terriers” will be writing and directing the film. Some aspects of this story cause me to scream from my desk in joy (Ferrell, Scott, Caplan), some make me skeptical (plot and writer/director), and some just make me gassy and dizzy (Dunst).
Will Ferrell drops some knowledge on 'Anchorman 2' and the more immediate 'Southern Rivals'.

Will Ferrell has intimated at a press conference for Everything Must Go that he’s looking to shoot the comedy Jay Roach‘s Southern Rivals this fall, costarring Zach Galifianakis. The film focuses on two rival politicians competing in a small South Carolina district. It is understood by everyone that this film will make $932 billion dollars at the box office and provide fraternity houses everywhere with enough quotes to hold them over until Anchorman 2 comes out in 2018 or whenever.

2018 may be not be too gross an exaggeration for an Anchorman 2 timeline, as Ferrell claimed that Universal were being “idiots” in not being able to get the numbers to pencil for the widely-anticipated sequel. Of course, their reservations may be warranted consideirng Ferrell and McKay last proposed Anchorman 2 as a musical. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be awesome, but I understand why they aren’t falling all over themselves to get it done ASAP.

So, rather than hold your breath for Anchorman 2, you may want to take in a deep breath of Southern Rivals. Try not to inhale any beard hairs. (Playlist)

A Will Ferrell acting serious movie that succeeds.

Everything Must Go is based on a Raymond Carver story, “Why Don’t You Dance?,” but the real draw of the movie is: See Will Ferrell downplay it. I’m up for that so I liked Everything Must Go.

Nick (Ferrell) loses his job, comes home and finds his wife has left him, changed the locks and left all of his possessions in the yard. So Nick decids to have a yard sale, and he learns about himself as he lets go of his material goods.

Even though Nick isn’t a wild character like Ricky Bobby or Ron Burgundy, the movie is still funny. There are the slapstick laughs like the sprinkler system on the lawn, and some physical comedy like riding a child’s bicycle when Nick loses his car keys. They could cut a trailer of those Will Ferrell moments but that would be a lie.

The comedy is really about how simple problems escalate into a really bad situation for Nick. You sort of expect the standard divorce measures, but when the police come you’re like, “Good God, give this guy break. He may not be a good husband but let him sit on his lawn with his old clothes.” It’s clear Nick screwed his own life up but some punishments are just too much.

Will Ferrell Is A Broken And Miserable Man In ‘Everything Must Go’

Okay, so a movie about a yard sale and a character coming to terms with his material life isn’t that big a deal. The Will Ferrell serious movie is. I think we like our comedians to succeed in different genres, like Jim Carrey and Robin Williams. Many have failed, including Ferrell’s previous attempts. So the mopey but not quite unlikeable Will Ferrell is good.

Ferrell goes dark. You thought watching Nick suck the last drops out of an empty can was a tragicomic joke. Wait until you see how desperate he gets for a beer. When Nick becomes mean to his neighbor Samantha (Rebecca Hall), he’s not lashing out in a hostile way. He’s just blunt and honest, but addressing touchy subjects.

Nick has heartwarming moments along the way too. His bond with the little kid Kenny (Christopher Jordan Wallace) is sweet. It’s never “look at the cute kid who shows the adult the wisdom he’s lacking.” It’s just a relationship with someone who helps him. Haggling over the price for half a bottle of mouthwash is silly but it shows he has a little bit of pride in his possessions. The humor about the secret lives Nick sees through his neighbors’ windows is clichéd, but again the jokes aren’t the point of this one.

The story ultimately takes Nick to a good place so it’s not just Ferrell showing off how dark he can go. There’s just no convenient happy ending. He has to show a subtle amount of growth and that he does.

The comedic sensibilities are a perfect match.

Carrey will guest star on an upcoming episode of”The Office.” In the episode, Carrey interviews for the position Steve Carrell‘s Michael Scott leaves. Is a resume with experience like “Pet Detective,” “Mask-Based Superhero” and “Christmas Present Relocation Manager” gonna land him the job as manager of a paper company? Probably not. Carrey will also have stiff competition in the episode from Ricky Gervais, Ray Romano, Catherine Tate, Will Arnett and James Spader. Sounds like this episode could use a few more celebrities. Is James Franco available?

Meanwhile, that begs the question: what’s gonna happen to Will Ferrell‘s character Deangelo Vickers (great name), who’s currently in charge? It’s a bigger office mystery than who takes more than 3 slices of pizza on Pizza Fridays, though many suspect it’s Jason. (EW)

Over the years, Fox’s proposed reboot has collected more comedian interest than a hot asian girl at a stand-up club wearing a tight Ghostbusters t-shirt. Jim Carrey, Owen Wilson, Mike Myers, Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen have all circled around the title role at one point. Now add Ben Stiller to the list.

After writer Steve Conrad penned a completely new version of the remake script, Stiller expressed interest. With Stiller on-board, Fox will scramble for a “cinematic director,” hoping to get the cameras rolling this Fall. Walter Mitty is based on a famous James Thurber short story about a mild-mannered daydreamer who imagines himself in heroic situations. I suspect this new version will contain more fart jokes in those daydreams than in any previous adaptation. (Deadline)

Will Ferrell loses the game of life in 'Everything Must Go'.

In this film, we see Will Ferrell hit rock bottom. Or rather his character. In the real world, Will Ferrell bottomed out sometime between Kicking and Screaming and Semi-Pro. In Everything Must Go, we are spared the goofy, fake-angry Will Ferrell and subjected to an extremely mild-mannered doormat of a man who has to pick up the pieces and move on.

We see Ferrell get fired, dumped, and sell all his stuff. It’s a little unclear where he goes from there. One would hope he finds some sort of redemption or fresh start. Otherwise, this is a very sad story indeed.

Other things to note in the trailer: Fat black kid, Dennis from “Sunny,” Stephen Root, Pabst, and a song with the chorus “Standing at the door of self-discovery.” Enjoy.

This short clip is way better than 'Bewitched'.

This clip is only 15 seconds long and far better than Bewitched.

Here we have our first look at Ferrell‘s guest role as the new boss on <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/the-office-scores-ferrell-tells-carell-he-should-really-get-going/" target="_blank""The Office.” We don’t have any real details on his character other than that it looks like he’ll be playing Will Ferrell. Which is fine by me. I could listen to that man scream about Odin or threaten to punch children for hours. In fact, I think I’ll do just that. **points listening device at Will Ferrell’s house** Amuse me, you twisty-haired man-child.
With big stars signed on, Adult Swim's "Tim & Eric Awesome Show" is planning on taking over the big screen... but what will they do to it, exactly?

Semi-abandoned mall, actually.

Something crazy is happening. Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim are really shooting a movie, and it will really have a cast that includes Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Jeff Goldblum, Will Forte, Robert Loggia and Zach Galifianakis. They’ve all signed on. Oh, but that Harrison Ford rumor was just that, so n Indiana Jones / Spagett cross-over.

When I heard the news that Tim And Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie was happening, I half-assumed it was a joke, like their infamous promotional campaign for Shrek The Third. However, it looks like the stars of Adult Swim‘s “Tim & Eric Awesome Show” are planning on taking over the big screen… but what will they do to it, exactly?

The sketch show was anti-comedy at its most purposefully, elegantly grating, and also was dolled out in 11 minute episodes. As much as I loved the title and posters for Aqua Teen Hunger Force Comma Movie Film For Theaters, I fell asleep half-way through. Of course, I wasn’t stoned, which I was later told was the problem.

Still, the thought of Beaver Boys and James Quall on the big screen is as exciting as finding my Chippy. Below is the plot, or the thing that will semi-resemble plot. (TheWrap)

The movie is about the comedians’ characters, Tim and Eric, who, Wareheim said, “literally get a billion dollars to make a movie, and we make it, and things go awry, and Tim and I just decide to get out of Hollywood and become businessmen in an abandoned mall.

Heidecker interrupted: “Semi-abandoned mall,” he said. “About 10 percent occupancy.”

While it's nice to see some big names attached, long-time followers will all but demand appearances by the creepy-cadre of weirdos that were a fixture on "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!" Here are nine such regulars that need to make an appearance.

For fans of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, the recent cameo rumors surrounding Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie felt like Chrimbus come early. There’s nothing official posted on IMDB, but regular guests of the show (John C. Reilly, Zach Galifianakis, Bob Odenkirk, Will Forte) as well as some unexpected names (Will Ferrell, Harrison Ford) are said to be on board. While it’s nice to see some big names attached, long-time followers will all but demand appearances by the creepy-cadre of weirdos that were a fixture on “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” Here are nine such regulars that need to make an appearance.

Weird Al Yankovic

What Tim and Eric project would be complete with out an appearance from Weird Al Yankovic (a.k.a. Uncle Muscles)? Well, they’ve done plenty of non-Weird Al projects, so I guess the answer is “a lot of them.” Even so, I hope he makes an appearance, and according to some sources, he’s already on board.

Richard Dunn

Yeah. I know. He’s dead. So what? That didn’t stop Heath Ledger from finishing The Dark Knight, or Martin Lawrence from making Big Momma’s: Like Father Like Son. So why not use some movie magic to bring Richard Dunn back from the dead. It worked on Casey.

Palmer Scott

If you love denim, you’ll love Palmer Scott. And if he makes it into the movie, it’s the perfect chance for Tim and Eric to earn product placement money from Levis.

James Quall

While I certainly hope that James Quall makes an appearance in the new film, chances are I’ll never know for sure. After all, his impressions are of such a high quality that he could slip in completely unnoticed.

Neil Hamburger

Comedian Neil Hamburger probably deserves a movie of his own. But for the time being, I’ll settle for a cameo with Tim and Eric.

Michael Q. Schmidt

You probably know Michael Q. Schmidt as the body model for the Mountain Troll character in Harry Potter, or maybe as the man who invented the “Raise the Roof” dance craze. But did you know that he’s also spent some time on “Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show Great Job!”? Well, now you do, and hopefully you’ll get to see him in the movie, as well.

Pierre

Apparently, Pierre’s real name is Ron Auster. Regardless, I’d sure like to meet his dad.

Bob Druwing

Hopefully the guys will manage to work T & E regular Bob Druwing into the film. That is, unless he’s too busy drinking jars of urine or photoshoping pictures of his dead niece.

David Liebe Hart

Recently, while visiting the Le Brea Tar Pits, I was accosted by a crazy man trying to sell me his CDs. Lucky, the crazy person in question was David Liebe Hart, and he was amazing! Sadly, he informed me that he had been laid off by Tim and Eric (probably due to the fact that the show is no longer in production). However I am happy to report that Hart will be making appearing in Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie. At least that’s what he told me. Who the hell knows for sure?

Carell will likely continue his smart streak with a role in David Frankel’s Great Hope Springs, where the actor/comedian will play a marriage therapist to a couple (Streep and a yet-to-be-cast actor) whose relationship is on the rocks after 31 years.

Carell’s got more good stuff coming soon. After he shoots Great Hope Springs, he’s got Burt Wonderstone for New Line, and then he’ll star with Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore in Crazy, Stupid Love. At this rate, he’ll never wind up onstage at the Laugh Factory yelling racial slurs. If only Kramer got an offer for a Meryl Streep movie back in ’98, everything would be different… (Deadline)

That movie about the brother and sister from the fairy tales that grow up to be specialty bounty-hunters has a release date! No, THAT one.

The pedigree for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is there. Jeremy Renner as Hansel and Gema Arteton as Gretel. Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy, Adam McKay, and Kevin. J. Messick producing. Paramount’s putting the film out w/Spyglass Entertainment. And now it’s got a release date next March! How’s the premise, you ask? Well:

“15 years after their narrow fairy tale escape from the gingerbread house, become specialized bounty-hunters looking to take down the witches that almost killed them.”

Well, that sounds like… something. It seems like it’s a decent pitch that will be made or broken by the execution. If it’s a gritty, dark affair with glints of humor, it could probably work nicely, as Renner is pretty compelling when he’s blowing things up (The Hurt Locker). If it’s a silly, goofy retelling with fart jokes and CGI monsters, it’s probably going to be less thrilling. The $60 million film will be shot in 3D, and it opens March 2, 2012. (Deadline)

She's been keeping a low profile, but all of that is about to change. Famke Janssen has joined the cast of Tommy Wirkola's Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

We haven’t seen too much her since she let her daughter chase U2 around Europe and subsequently get sold into sex-slavery in Taken, but that is about to change. Famke Janssen has joined the cast of Tommy Wirkola‘s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters as the leader of the witches.

The film follows Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner as adult-versions of Hansel and Gretel. With their gingerbread house nightmare behind them, they’ve now dedicated their lives to the hunting down and destruction of witches.

This casting works for me. I could watch Famke all day long. And I still would be if that judge hadn’t stepped in with his stupid robe and gavel and blah, blah, court-ordered something or other.
Will Ferrell will be picking up the slack during a four-episode arc.

The mystery behind Steve Carell’s (slightly) early departure from”The Office” now makes a lot more sense. Will Ferrell will be picking up the slack during a four-episode arc. If I knew Carell was leaving, and I had Ferrell in my pocket, I’d be all, “Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out, BITCH!” to Steve Carell. But NBC’s probably a more gracious bunch.

Ferrell will play a manager from corporate who comes to Scranton to aid in the transition, which is pretty meta if you think about it. It’s not explicit, but presumed, that Ferrell will get mock-angry a bunch during the four episodes and say “GOD!” in disgust at least 15 times.

Surprisingly, Ferrell actually approached the producers of “The Office” to offer his service, as he’s a fan of Carell, the show, and NBC in general, having gotten his start on”Saturday Night Live.” (Deadline)

Will Ferrell's 'Casa de mi padre' is having an identity issue. On one hand it's lost its title, but on the other it has plot details.

Picture not related.

Will Ferrell’s Casa de mi padre (now imbued with the power of Mexicans!) is having an identity issue. The Spanish-language telenovela comedy has had its title reduced to Untitled Spanish Comedy for the moment. Which sounds suspicously like something Setzer and Friedberg would do.

But what’s in a name? In the plus column, they’ve released a pretty funny plot synopsis.

This movie is currently called UNTITLED SPANISH COMEDY and stars Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries), DIEGO LUNA (The Terminal) and GENESIS RODRIGUEZ (TV’s Entourage & “Dona Barbara”) Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna), shows up with his new fiance, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal)…

Our apologies to Genesis Rodriguez, who will undoubtedly have Will Ferrell wiggling around on top of her at some point in this film.

Give it up for the male Mariah Carey, y’all. Huff n’ Doback are about to go beast in the booth. Yesterday, Adam McKay tweeted: “Are we currently working on a Step Bros rap album? Yup.” Then I guess he realized how that could be taken as a joke and followed it up with, “I wasn’t kidding about Step Bros rap album. And we just found out we have a crazy big time producer. Mos Def, you up for a guest flow?”

Normally I would groan at something like this, but I’m ready for more ‘Boats ‘n Hoes.’ It really is better than anything Drake has put out there. And who knows? If this does well, maybe we’ll get a sequel to ‘City Of Crime.’ (via The Playlist)

A Peace on Earth and Little Drummer Boy mash-up has never been more uncomfortable.
What’cha, what’cha, what’cha want, Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Will Ferrell, and Jack Black? Oh, to star in a short film based on the Beastie Boys‘ 1987 music video (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party). Adam Yauch, Beastie/movie producer, will write and direct the film entitled Fight For Your Right Revisited. The aforementioned comedy crew, in addition to John C. Reilly, will play the dicks who crash the righteous party.

According to JoBlo, the short film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January and the synopsis posted on the festival’s official website describes the film thusly: “After the boys leave the party…” Ooooo, how cryptic. It’s almost as if anything could happen, though foul language and shouting is almost a certainty. I don’t think Danny McBride signs on to projects unless he can use several synonyms for the word “penis.”

In honor of the DVD release of The Other Guys, a film that hilariously mismatches Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, we've compiled this list the of 9 most awkward crime-fighting partners in movie history.

When it comes to crime-fighting partnerships, you probably think of Batman and Robin, Starsky and Hutch, Holmes and Watson, etc. You don’t often think of a hard-boiled private detective and a cartoon rabbit, or a regular cop paired with an intergalactic refugee. But in Hollywood, where every idea, no matter how bizarre, will eventually be produced as a major motion picture, these pairings have already occurred. In honor of the release of The Other Guys on Unrated Blu-ray and DVD, we’ve compiled this list of the 9 most awkward crime-fighting partners in movie history.

Eddie Valiant and Roger Rabbit – Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)

Eddie Valiant is a hard-nosed, borderline alcoholic private detective who hates cartoons. He blames them for the death of his brother, who was killed by at unknown toon years earlier. So when he finds himsel fighting to clear the name of a cartoon rabbit, things get pretty awkward, pretty fast. Not only is Roger Rabbit’s life at stake, but the fate of Toontown itself also hangs in the balance. For those of you who don’t live in the L.A. area, Toontown is a neighborhood near Hollywood where all the cartoons used to live. It’s since been overrun with Armenians.

Jack Quinn and Yaz – Double Team (1997)

When it comes to pairing celebrities in film, at least one member of the duo should have some acting talent. That way, they can make up for the other’s poor performance. Maybe that’s why Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dennis Rodman are so damn awkward in Double Team. Van Damme plays a counter-terrorism agent, and Rodman plays a drug dealer, but neither of one can act their way out of a paper bag. Granted, I doubt many people went to Double Team to see an Oscar-winning performance, but even so.

Julius and Vincent Benedict – Twins (1988)

Danny Devito and Arnold Schwarzenegger are a pretty awkward pair on their own. But casting them as fraternal twins takes it to a whole new level. While the two don’t start out as crime fighters, circumstances force them to take on a pair of loan shar brothers and a ruthless hitman, so they earned a spot on this prestigious list.

Nick McKenna and Devon Butler – Cop and a Half (1993)

Partnering a grown man with a child is awkward. But partnering a child with a grown man who also has a mustache is downright irresponsible. I know the character’s a cop, but even so, that molester ‘stache is a big red flag. I’m sure Burt Reynolds doesn’t go in for that sort of thing, but the film could lull parents into a false sense of security. The next thing you know, they’ve let their guard down, and the kids are at Jeffrey Jones’s house for another sleepover. Awkward.

Matthew Sykes and Samuel ‘George’ Francisco – Alien Nation (1988)

Alien Nation is a lot like District 9 in the sense that an alien ship becomes stranded on Earth, and humanity has to figure out what to do with the passengers. But unlike District 9, the aliens of Alien Nation are not put in a camp and quarantined. Instead, they are put into a ghetto, just like regular immigrants. Detective Matthews Sykes isn’t big fan of the newcomers, but he teams up with one anyway because it gives him the chance he needs to investigate the murder of his former partner. The two don’t really hit it off, but eventually they learn to respect each other. I guess it’s sort of like The Odd Couple, except with aliens and homicide.

Terry Hoitz and Allen Gamble – The Other Guys (2010)

When you think of action-movie cops, The Rock and Samuel L. Jackson seem like a good pair. But when the characters played by these two are killed off, you’ll have to settle for The Other Guys. Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) is more interested in pushing paper than pursuing perps, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) is a deranged cop who once shot Derek Jeter during the World Series. Together, they’ll have to unravel a multimillion-dollar conspiracy, and hope that the department will forget the whole “desk pop” thing and allow Gamble to carry his weapon again (instead of a wooden replacement).

Sgt. Joe Bomowski and Tutti Bomowski – Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot (1992)

So get this! We take Sylvester Stallone and have him play a big tough-guy cop. But we partner him up with…his mom! Crazy, right? I mean, old ladies don’t carry big guns around, so it will be really funny! She’ll be all like, “Honey, be careful, you should eat more,” and stuff, and he’ll be all like “Mom, I’m trying to catch bad guys here.” And then she’ll be like, “I can help,” and he’ll be all like, “Aw mom, no!”

Jake Wilder and Reno – Top Dog (1995)

What could be more awkward than teaming the most powerful man in the world (according to the Internet) with a lovable family pet? Throwing the pair into a plot involving White Supremacists, I suppose. And Top Dog did just that. When an apartment complex full of minorities is destroyed by military-grade explosives, they put Chuck Norris (Jake Wilder) and a dog named Reno on the case. I would have thought the FBI would get involved in something like that, but instead it’s left to a local cop and a dog he doesn’t get along with. Now that’s what I call an awkward partnership.

Dr. Maxwell Kirshner and Jack Moss - The Thing with Two Heads (1972)

Pairing up an old white racist with a black death-row inmate is an awkward concept. Fusing both of their heads onto the same body is a surreal nightmare of racial stereotypes and Hollywood cliches. The old white dude needs a body to stay alive, and the young black “soul brother” needs an excuse to stay out of the electric chair long enough to clear his name. And everyone needs to see this trailer at least once before they die.
