Baumbach And Eiseinberg To Reteam For ‘While We’re Young’?

The L.A. Times is reporting cinematic darlings Jesse Eisenberg and Noah Baumbach are working on reuniting for While We’re Young, which the paper describes as “an intergenerational couples drama,” and I would subsequently describe as “a very dry film with more than a dash of pretension.”

Eisenberg could be compelled to pursue this project out of nothing more than obligation, as it was Baumbach that gave him his break in 2005′s The Squid and the Whale. Eisenberg’s role was previously supposed to go to (who else?) James Franco, but when it was determined that Franco wasn’t capable of creating 400 clones of himself to complete all the projects to which he was attached, the role went back up for grabs.

No attributable sources are confirming the rumors, but it’s the type of casting decision you just makes sense. Like the entire Travolta clan getting cast in Gotti. No. Wait. The opposite of that.

Last weekend’s Oscars apparently drained James Franco of a good chunk of his considerable power. In news that I thought I’d never have to report, James Franco is actually leaving a project. The movie, which is now destined to make history as “the one that Franco isn’t in,” is Noah Baumbach‘s While We’re Young. Franco had to drop out because of his signing on to star in The Great and Powerful, which indicates that he’s at least temporarily lost his ability to be in two places at once.

Franco’s power drain is also having an impact on his less-prolific colleagues – Cate Blanchett was also attached to the project before dropping out. No reason is given although it’s being speculated that her duties with The Hobbit are the source of a conflict.

Fans of James Franco will have to settle for merely seeing him in every aspect of modern life that isn’t While We’re Young. (via The Playlist)

Noah Baumbach Lines Up Ben Stiller And James Franco For ‘While We’re Young’

Future Oscar host James Franco and guy who dresses embarrassingly at the Oscars Ben Stiller are set to join Noah Baumbach‘s next project. In While We’re Young, Franco will play one half of a hip, young Brooklyn couple who inspires Stiller and his wife to spice things up in their life and relationship. It’s like Keeping Up With The Joneses, but in this instance the Joneses wear skinny jeans and drink Pork Slap beer.

Offers have gone out to Greta Gerwig and Cate Blanchett to play these guys’s tenderonis, but neither has committed yet. What’s the over/under that The Arcade Fire will be on this soundtrack? (Vulture)
