Choosing scary monster movies to watch with girls is not only the perfect Saturday night activity, it's also the perfect way to covertly put her in the mood.

Choosing scary monster movies to watch with girls is not only the perfect Saturday night activity, it’s also the perfect way to covertly put her in the mood without having to soil your HD flat screen with some sort of sensitive thinking person’s movie. If you’ve ever watched a scary movie with a girl in your life, you know you can expect your lady (or ladies) to inch closer and cling tighter as the fear builds. If you’re lucky, you’ll have her in your lap by the time the movie ends, while having seen some darn good effects in the process.

Cloverfield

Rob and Beth talking to the camcorder

A perfect blend of two parts monster madness and one part sappy romance, Cloverfield‘s plot revolves around a massive creature of unknown origin as it ravages downtown New York. Instead of evacuating, a young man goes to rescue an ex-girlfriend with the help of some friends. Being a hero at heart he goes back knowing full well the monster still lurks the area. A word of caution, the director went with the “shaky cam” style of filmmaking—one or both of you may end up puking, unless you have a stash of Dramamine on hand.

Alien

Alien stuck to crew member's face

A spacecraft lands on a distant, unexplored planet to answer a distress beacon after which an alien creature boards their ship. While some may consider this to be a little too “old-school”, it still delivers the chills even if you have already seen it a few times. The H.R. Giger-designed alien is frightening enough, but most of the scares are delivered through Ridley Scott‘s masterful use of mood and atmosphere. Even if it is the “oldest” film on this list, Alien set the bar so high when it was release in the late ’70s that horror flicks today, in all their CG glory, still struggle to match its quality.

28 Days Later

Zombie on fire chasing Cillian Murphy

Most think 28 Days Later is a zombie-type flick. The truth is, the “zombies” are actually still alive, having been transformed into monstrous, bloodthirsty savages by a strange virus. The creatures roam the streets of England hunting down the few survivors who remain in the country. 28 Days Later is so frightening and so disturbing that there is a strong possibility it will be you that ends up inching towards your girlfriend as you watch in fear.

The Mist

From the mind of Stephen King, The Mist features a plethora of monsters that all but guarantees to give you and your girlfriend some major goosebumps. A handful of civilians are trapped in a local grocery store as a strange mist engulfs their entire town. The mist not only clouds the area it covers, it is also home to an unknown number of fiendish monsters. You may have to watch this movie at least once before watching it with a lady friend just so you know what to expect. The last thing you want to do is scream like a little girl in front of her.

Dog Soldiers

Werewolf in the woods in Dog Soldier

Last but not least is the 2002 British release, Dog Soldiers. A squad of special forces are training in the Scottish Highlands when they find the remains of another group of soldiers who had trained in the area. The troops then go into battle mode only to find that their adversaries are not men but werewolves. The movie does start slow but by the 30 minute mark, you and your girlfriend will be clinging to each other in mutual fear…which will hopefully lead to some other mutual activities.

Director Danny Boyle is thinking of returning to unconventional monster movie territory nine years after his terrifying zombie film '28 Days Later'.

Director Danny Boyle, fresh off his Oscar-baiting, limb-slicing, Franco-starring biopic 127 Hours, is thinking of returning to unconventional monster territory nine years after his terrifying zombie film 28 Days Later. Boyle is considering teaming up with his Slumdog Millionaire collaborator, writer Simon Beofoy on an adaptation of Toby Barlow’s long form poem “Sharp Teeth.” The poem is about East Los Angeles gang members who are also shape-shifting were-dogs. And they say there are no more original ideas! Says Beaufoy of the potential Boyle collaboration:

“If I write it well enough, he’ll direct it,” Beaufoy told BBC America. “It’s a very extraordinary mix of gangland Los Angeles—Compton, the Watts Towers area—really, really rough, a lot of shootings. And the difference with this particular piece of work is that these gangs can shape-shift at will into packs of dogs. So it’s a police procedural mixed with a werewolf film. If you get it wrong, it’s a disaster. If you get right, it will be extraordinary.”

Sounds like a real gamble, but an interesting one at that. The film has been compared to Boyz in the Hood, so I would like to make the humble casting suggestion of Ice Cube as every single character. And if Boyle really wants to be generous, he’ll cut off his arm at the end. Taylor Lautner is howling mad at an RV company for not delivering his trailer on time. Get it? I said "howling mad" because he plays a wolf boy in those awful movies. *sigh*

At any rate, Lautner is so distraught over the matter that he has filed a lawsuit against the company, McMahon's RV, claiming both "annoyance" and "emotional distress."
On the one hand, he allegedly paid $300,000 for the trailer, so I can sort of see his point. On the other hand, he paid $300,000 for a trailer, and someday he'll use it to bang more chicks than I will ever meet even though he looks like one of the rats from those old Quizno's ads. When I look at it that way, I'm more inclined to hope the trailer catches fire while the rich, pretty boy, crybaby is inside. (TMZ via Movie Line)

The Wolfman is regarded as a collossal failure and that's due in no small part to its complete lack of girl-on-girl (I'm assuming). That's a mistake the upcoming lesbian werewolf film Jack & Diane does not intend to make. Though I am afraid it may alienate John Mellencamp fans.
Australian pop star Kylie Minogue has now joined the project to play a "heavily tattooed lesbian." She'll be working with Juno Temple and Riley Keough, who play hot teens who must deal with the hardships of transforming into a werewolf. Surprisingly Mischa Barton is not involved with this project in any way. The story, which is about a group of guys gradually turning into werewolves, is being described as The Hangover with a horror twist. Wouldn't that just be The Hangover with more Carrot Top footage? At any rate, it's getting all kinds of werewolf-y in here. Off the top of my head I can think of six or seven werewolf-centric projects already released or in production. Between all that Twilight stuff, The Wolfman, MTV's "Teen Wolf" series, MMA Werewolves, The Monster Squad, David Hayter's Wolves, and Alec Baldwin hosting the Oscars, there's never been an easier time for really hairy dudes to get work.
Every new image or clip of The Wolfman gets me less and less excited for the film’s release… and now comes the second full trailer, which ends up playing out like some sort of Victorian version of The Fast & The Furious.

There’s so much dried poop stuck to the hairy butt of this trailer you’re gonna need to resurrect Billy Mays to figure out a solution for getting it out. C’mon Joe Johnston! Not since Jumanji have we had to deal with hairy CG animal poop clumps. The only convincing part of the trailer was Hugo Weaving, and he pretty much fapped around all day on set (see photo):
