In about a month, the new Netflix historical drama/actioner Marco Polo will take you off your couch and into the magical age of discovery. Sounds pretty awesome, eh? Well, you can judge for yourself now that the first full-length trailer is out.

While Netflix has offered original series in the past, and will continue to do so, this show, a partnership with The Weinstein Company, seems to exist on a bigger scale than the others.

So is Netflix ready to go against the likes of Game of Thrones?

Dammit. That’s the second rhetorical question you’ve asked me. Just watch the video.

Weinsteins To Get Rolling On TV Shows For ‘Silver Linings’, ‘Sin City’, And ‘The Mist’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/general/weinsteins-to-get-rolling-on-tv-shows-for-silver-linings-sin-city-and-the-mist/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/general/weinsteins-to-get-rolling-on-tv-shows-for-silver-linings-sin-city-and-the-mist/#comments Tue, 03 Dec 2013 15:59:30 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=258191 No original content here, folks.

The Weinsteins made a pretty big deal about their upcoming TV forays a couple years back, but so far have only really been able to crank out some pretty weak fare such as the From Dusk Till Dawn series, a Scream series that I never know existed, and Bad Santa 2 (ditto).

They seem hell bent on continuing to adapt their films rather than engineer original content, according to a recent NY Times interview. They say they want serializations of Silver Linings Playbook, Sin City, and The Mist. Ok.

Silver Linings Playbook was so hugely dependent on its stars that unless Cooper and Lawrence feel like slumming it for a year or so, that might not be the best idea. Sin City would be cool, but might ambitious, given the scope of the cast, but could be done on the cheap with all its green screenery.

The Mist was done by Frank Darabont, who knows his way around TV with his Walking Dead foray, but at the end of the day, I don’t know if a show about suspended condensation is really the show America needs.

Weinstein Company Might Want A ‘Knight Rider’ Film As Badly As David Hasselhoff http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/weinstein-company-might-want-a-knight-rider-film-as-badly-as-david-hasselhoff/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/weinstein-company-might-want-a-knight-rider-film-as-badly-as-david-hasselhoff/#comments Wed, 26 Jun 2013 20:02:30 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=255502 And The Hoff is HUNGRY.

If there are any Knight Rider fans reading this sight, I kindly ask them to don their bifocals so that they may read this article with no undue eye strain. After a lot of David Hasselhoff conjecture and wishful thinking, as well as an incredibly crappy NBC TV show in 2008, it appears that there remains some breath to be drawn in the ill-advised adaptation.

In a post-Battleship America, it’s clear that even the worst adaptation of familiar material is superior to even the best unbranded, untested original script. The LA Times (via A.V. Club) states, “as a somewhat higher-budget, more action-oriented movie than Weinstein‘s typical prestige fare.”

So the Knight Rider film will have more action than, say, I Don’t Know How She Does It or Blue Valentine.

Those Winklevoss boys made rowing hot again. The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to The Boys in the Boat, a book chronicling the triumph of the University of Washington rowing team over those snotty bluebloods from Harvard and Yale. Naturally, it’s being touted as “a cross between Seabiscuit and Chariots of Fire.” Probably because it will star a crapload of white people.

The fellas from UW went on to represent the United States at the 1936 Olympics in Munich, which weren’t quite as eventful as the 1972 Munich Olympics, but were still a pretty big deal. They took the gold in the race, causing Hitler to leave the event in disgust. TAKE THAT, HITLER!!!!

The book rights were sold based on a 17-page proposal, which should inspire thousands of screenwriters to put together thousands of 17-page proposals in an effort to get the attention of the Brothers Weinstein. I don’t envy the junior-level development execs posting up there over the next few months Break out your reading glasses. (Variety)

If you’re over 40 and an actor, stay near your phone. The producers of I Don’t Know How She Does It will probably be giving you a ring to get you to join their movie. Today, The Weinstein Company announced the hiring of Greg Kinnear and Jane Curtin to the already-loaded cast featuring Christina Hendricks, Olivia Munn, Seth Meyers, Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kelsey Grammer, and Douglas McGrath.

I Don’t Know How She Does It is the story of Sarah Jessica Parker as a working mom who, judging by the title, wows her peers who just don’t know how she accomplishes all that stuff that looms over 40 year-old women The box office breakdown is expected to be 95% women and 5% sad, broken men. Kinnear will play her husband and Curtin will play Parker’s mom. The film is based on the Allison Pearson novel of the same name.

All those critical of having to hear SJP whine about how hard it is to be a single professional in SATC now get to hear her whine about how hard it is to be a married professional in IDKHSDI. (Don’t expect that acronym to catch on.)(Collider)
