"Why ya hittin' yourself, Michael Moore? Stop hittin' yourself, fatty!"

They say “stick with what you know,” and the Weinsteins seem to be adhering to that adage, having secured all rights to The Bully Project, a documentary about the dynamic effect of bullies on other kids. The film shows the fallout from bullying by examining the families of five bullied children.

Apparently, this is an issue that hits close to home for Harvey Weinstein, who said in a written statement:

“As a parent of four, bullying is an issue that concerns me deeply, and I jumped at the opportunity to be involved with a film that could help eradicate this plague once and for all.”

He then bit completely through his lip while struggling to maintain a straight face.

The movie bowed a few days ago at the Tribeca Film Festival, but no wide release dates have been set as of yet. But you can bet if they’re not set soon, the Weinsteins will not only shit on your head, but make you say “Thanks for the hat.”

It’s really great they’re taking this stance against bullying. (The Wrap)

Michael Moore, for all the civic duties he takes upon himself, still wants to get paid at the end of the day.

Michael Moore, for all the civic duties he takes upon himself, still wants to get paid at the end of the day. That may surprise some of you. What shouldn’t surprise anyone, ever is that the Weinsteins want to get paid as well. So what happens when you get them both arguing over money? A conflict that we wish would be resolved in a sumo ring, but will more than likely be resolved in a courtroom. Snooze.

The grounds for the lawsuit are about as dry as a cracker. When auditing his $200 million film Farenheit 9/11, he found that through “Hollywood’s accounting tricks,” the Weinstein’s bilked him out of $3 million. It is presumed that with the newly found revenue, Moore would purchase 100,000 baseball caps at $10 each, 25,000 poorly-fitting polo shirts at $40 apiece, with the remaining restitution being used to buy a bunch of nylon Land’s End jackets.

Whatever the outcome, both parties involved are capable of blowing some serious hot air, so let’s hope they do the noble thing here and make the dispute at the same time both as personal and public as possible. I hope it gets reduced to both sides calling the other sides fat.
Ground control to Major Harvey . The Weinstein Co. is preparing to launch production on Apollo 18, a film about the Apollo 18 moon mission.
You: “But Jame, there was no Apollo 18 moon mission.”

Shut up! I was getting to that. Although Apollo 18 was canceled, “conspiracy theorists believed the mission did launch as planned,” and the covert operation found “disturbing new evidence of other life forms.” So there!
When Comic-Con told the The Weinstein Company that their Piranha 3D footage was too graphic for the "family friendly" event, they pulled out of the planned panel. But now comes word that the company is taking it one step further, saying f*** you to Comic-Con by hosting an off-site, nighttime event of their own featuring the rejected footage. TWC and director Alexandre Aja originally planned to show off a sequence where a wet T-shirt contest turns into a total massacre as prehistoric fish chomp waterlogged fun-seekers into meat. It’s the sequence that has been teased in the trailers and pre-release images, and one that sounds like one of the film’s planned showstopper setpieces. I guess it should come as no surprise that the Weinstein Brothers, two of the most powerful men in Hollywood, found a way to outflank the organizers of a comic-book convention. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if some Teamsters showed up, blocked the exits, and burnt the place down, cosplay girls and all. (/Film)

Last month, director/screenwriter Corey Edwards started a pissing match with the Weinstein Brothers over a possible new Fraggle movie. In a post on his blog, Edwards claimed that the Weinsteins were searching for a new screenwriter because his version was not "edgy" enough. Now comes word that Edwards and the Weinsteins have cleared the air, probably due to the fact that Edwards is contractually obligated to direct the film. I’ve been able to sit down with Weinstein’s new VP of Development and really talk about their issues with the movie. We’ve had some very good conversations about what they think “edgy” is and what I think “edgy” is. We got down to the philosophies of why to even make a Fraggle movie in the first place. And I think they’ve been able to qualify their word “edgy” with the word “older.” They want this movie to connect with an older, more sophisticated audience. I'm surprised this is even an issue. What can be more "sophisticated" than a bunch of glorified sock puppets singing and dancing in a magical underground world? As the following quote from Jim Henson demonstrates, sophistication is what the Fraggles are all about. "It is a high-energy, raucous musical romp. It's a lot of silliness. It's wonderful." (/Film)

But to not even ask me? Adding insult to injury, the search is basically an open assignment. This means the net has been cast wide, virtually posting in the “classifieds” of the movie business. The Fraggles do not deserve such treatment. Now, I like "Fraggle Rock" as much as the next unoriginal retro-addicted douche bag, but I'm not exactly sure what type of treatment Fraggles "deserve." It's not like we're talking about the regular Muppets, here.
Bob and Harvey Weinstein relax after attending Sunday morning mass.A $600 million deal between Disney and the Weinstein brothers has fallen through, leaving the fate of Miramax up in the air. While an agreement between the two parties was once considered inevitable, The Wrap reports that "legal minutiae and details of the library split caused the talks to drag on and ultimately fizzle."Bob and Harvey Weinstein founded Miramax in 1979, but sold it to Disney in 1993. Now that the deal has fallen through, insiders speculate that the brothers have grown tired of the Hollywood racket and are leaving show business to pursue a simpler life.
