Is ‘Jupiter Rising’ The Next Wachowski Classic?

You have two choices before you. You can swallow the blue pill, and go back to your old life, in which you assume that the Wachowskis next directing project is Cloud Atlas, which they’re producing and co-directing with Tom Twyker. Or you can take the red pill, and enter a new world in which up is down, left is right, black is white, and the Wachowskis are working on a “secret project” for Warner Bros. entitled Jupiter Rising.

The report comes from Twitch, but the report says that the Wachowskis are just producing Cloud Atlas rather than co-directing as well, so who knows. There’s also no information on plot or anything like that – just a curious similarity to Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises. Anyway, it’s possible that since they’re sharing directing duties on Cloud Atlas, they have the time to develop another project, but it’s reall up in the air. Perhaps more details on Jupiter and how/why it’s rising will arise soon. (The Playlist)

Hugo Weaving Floating On ‘Cloud Atlas’, Heh Heh

The Wachowskis‘s upcoming Cloud Atlas sounds like one of the biggest and most ambitious movies to be taken on by a major studio. It’s based on a novel by David Mitchell, and will be directed by both the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer. In case you haven’t read what it’s about, here it is – and try to imagine what this is going to be like onscreen:

“Mitchell’s 2004 novel follows six storylines that include a 19th century American notary, a poor British musician in the 1930s, a journalist in 1970s California, a vanity press publisher in the early 21st century, a rebellious clone in the near future and a primitive Hawaiian tribesman surviving after the apocalypse. Each actor in the film will be playing multiple roles.”

This is either going to be amazing or terrible. Or, you know, somewhere in between. Anyway, Hugo Weaving has signed on, which is continuing his relationship with the Wachowskis through the Matrix trilogy and V for Vendetta. He’s joining Tom Hanks, along with Halle Berry and Ben Whishaw. So be sure to keep them in your thoughts – they definitely have their work cut out for them. (The Hollywood Reporter)

The Wachowski brothers siblings have taken break from their film about American servicemen engaging in hardcore gay sex in order to work on the next best thing: a Robin Hood remake. While the project is being kept under wraps, it is rumored to be a modern take on the classic tale. It is also rumored that Will Smith has been approached for the lead role. I really hope he takes it. The world needs another crappy rap song loosely based on a crappy movie. (Heat Vision via Empire)
