Despite being the most popular of the giant frikkin’ robot cartoons of the 1980′s, Voltron has had a hard time making it to the big screen. Now there’s news that producers are in  a bidding war for the rights.

Relativity Media is said to be taking time out of swimming in their giant money bin long enough to take an interest in the project. Meanwhile, a script had been in the works with Atlas Entertainment for some time now. Although, no updates from them beyond concept art have lead fans to believe the project was in turnaround. At any rate, the interest from Relativity is a good sign that this movie could happen.

No word on when it will be brought to the screen, though 2013 seems to be the target date. They’d better get to work soon if they hope to put Alex Pettyfer in the Black Lion’s cockpit while we’re all still aware of who Alex Pettyfer is. (NY Mag)

On Wednesday, we reported that plans for a Voltron movie had fallen through.  But according to producers Richard Suckle and Ted Koplar, we’re a bunch of no-good liars.

SUCKLE: You never can tell, but I think that if we’re lucky going into 2011, and in a perfect world, if we could have a "Voltron" movie sometime in the summer of 2013, that would be what I would consider a very likely timeline.

I know at first glance it looks like we screwed up, but let’s take a step back and consider the source: Latino Review. It’s a fine publication, but I’m not going to consider this news as "solid" until I read it in Afro-Caribbean Weekly or Slavic Quarterly, the gold standards in ethnocentric Voltron news outlets.

After years of rumors and indecision, plans for a Voltron movie have been scrapped. However, fans need not worry, as they’ll soon be able to get their nostalgia fix on the small screen. A reboot of the popular 80′s cartoon is underway. The new series will air on Nicktoons, and will be rolled out alongside a brand new toy line.

As cool as these new toys sound, times are tough. If you find that money is too tight, construct a homemade "Voltron" robot using wire hangers, your cat, and a soldering iron. But make sure your cat is either asleep or dead before you start the soldering, or it’s going to get really pissed off. I recommend using Benadryl and a brick, respectively. (Cinema Blend)
