ABC Picks Up And Kills Series

In news that was signified by a herd of antelope stampeding through ABC headquarters, the network has announced a slate of cancellations, renewals, and pickups for the fall TV season. Don’t be sad, though - this is a process as inevitable as the blowing winds and growing grass.

Among the new pilots being given life are:

A “Charlie’s Angels” remake.
“Pan Am,” the 60s drama about flight attendants stewardesses flight attendants starring Christina Ricci.
An untitled Tim Allen sitcom that features the grunting comedian”fighting for his manhood in a world increasingly dominated by women.” Sigh.
“Apartment 23,” which used to have the word “bitch” in the title, but doesn’t anymore.
“Good Christian Belles,” another show that used to have the word “bitch” in the title, but doesn’t anymore. This makes ABC the leading broadcaster of TV shows that used to have the word “bitch” in their titles, but don’t anymore. Congratulatons, ABC!

Unfortunately, for new shows to be born, other shows must meet the hard, cold kiss of death. Here are the ABC series set to cross the River Styx:

“V,” a show about reptilian aliens that invade America. I guess this means the reptillians won.
“Mr. Sunshine,” which has been cancelled despite decent ratings, reportedly in the wake of star Matthew Perry going to rehab. Heh.

Brothers and Sisters”

“Off The Map“

“No Ordinary Family”

“Detroit 1-8-7“

Morena Baccarin

Morena Baccarin has a thing for sci-fi. Currently portraying the leader of a hostile alien race on ABC’s “V,” Baccarin previously boasted roles in space-opera cult favorite “Firefly” and “Stargate SG-1.” Before landing any of these parts, however, the Brazillian-born Baccarin trained in Julliard’s renowned theatre program, befriending fellow classmate “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” actor Glenn Howerton, alongside whom she would later appear in the show’s unaired pilot episode.

A word from Morena: “She’s the nurturer, and the heart of the crew. They call her an ambassador. She bridges the gap between worlds.”

Elizabeth Mitchell

Best known as the frustratingly mysterious Dr. Juliet Burke from that show about a time-traveling island or whatever, Elizabeth Mitchell is focusing on a more plausible realm of science fiction these days: Aliens. Aliens who are secretly lizards. I’m referring, of course, to the show “V” on ABC, in which Mitchell plays a hard-nosed FBI agent who, no matter how much space-lizard ass she kicks, can’t seem to keep her teenage son in check. Doing the best she can with the show’s frequently-cheesy dialogue and stunning plot holes, Mitchell offers up an entertaining performance each week, shooting things, driving places, and arguing with people in the most captivating manner possible.

‘V’ Actress Laura Vandervoort

After starring in The Lookout with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Laura Vandervoort landed the coveted role of Supergirl on “Smallville.” She now stars in “V” and is currently praying it doesn’t get cancelled.

A word from Laura: “Hollywood is something imagined.”

Actually it’s not. I drove through it the other day. It’s something littered with graffiti, Carl’s Jr. wrappers, and charismatic bums.
