That smooth move is this:

“HEY GUYS! YOU LIKE PIRATES, REMEMBER? WE’VE GOT A SHOW ABOUT PIRATES FOR YOU!”

And so was announced Crossbones, a 10-episode pickup of a show about pirates in the 1800′s. In true NBC fashion, Crossbones will be going up against another pirate series that will air on Starz and will be produced by Michael Bay.

NBC’s is produced and created by the guy who made Luther, the show starring Idris Elba as a police detective.

I have to say I don’t like NBC’s chances here. PG-rated pirates may work for Disney and Johnny Depp, but I think that’s the extent of the public’s appetite for them. I mean, we saw the network tackle risque material in The Playboy Club, and I don’t think I need to tell anyone how that turned out.

Poor Playboy Club.
