I think we can all agree that Michael Bay is to subtlety and restraint what Joseph Stalin was to…subtlety and restraint, right? Come to think of it, Bay and Stalin have more in common than you might assume: Both rose to the top of their industries despite strong protests from their peers, both are/were megalomaniacs who worked tirelessly to develop personality cults, and both were born in years beginning with 19. Am I calling Michael Bay the Joseph Stalin of filmmaking, or implying that Bay might even be Joseph Stalin reincarnated? Yes, I am saying that. Michael Bay is Joseph Stalin reincarnated.

Still, the man’s made so much money in his career that he could purchase one of the exotic countries he so often shoots in and rename it (Baytopia? The Republic of ROCKoslavakia?) if he wanted to. All we can really do at this point is parody what’s made him such a success while quietly stabbing ourselves with forks to numb the infinite sadness caused by the death of art that is his filmmaking.

“Wow, that got really, really dark,” is what I said about that last sentence after I wrote it and what I said five minutes into Up, which brings us to today’s item (*stands up, accepts award for greatest topic transition ever*). Youtube user MrStratman7 has become known the internet over for his humorous takedowns of Michael Bay’s “style” of directing, most notably in “What if Michael Bay Directed “The Shawshank Redemption?”, which currently holds OVER 80,000 HITS on Youtube (Take that, Miley Cyrus!). For his latest effort in “What If”-style recut movie trailers featuring Michael Bay, he tackles Up.

Give it a gander, then let us know (or let MrStratman7 know, I guess) which movies you’d like to see Michael Bay parodies of in the future. Personally, I’d love to see a Michael Bay version of City of God, where the gangs all carry bazookas and Rocket has a sentient pet robot instead of a camera. And it takes place in 2060 on Mars so the sentient pet robot makes sense.

Jesus, that’s a stupid enough idea to actually become a movie. What have I done?

A mere 519 years ago, Italian explorer Christopher Columbus discovered America. Kinda bullsh*t that he had to work on a bank holiday, but whatever, we got a country out of the deal.

He is unquestionably one of the greatest explorers in history. In fact, I’d be hard-pressed to name more than a few others. Unless those explorers had a movie based on their trials and travails. In which case, I’m a real history buff.

Carl Fredricksen and Russell – Up

You’re never too old to become an explorer. Carl Fredricksen learns this after using thousands of helium balloons to convert his house into an airship and set its course for Paradise Falls, South America. He picks up Russell by mistake and brings him along for the exotic adventure. Technically, they weren’t the first to discover Paradise Falls but they were the only explorers to survive their visit there. So, points go to them.

Edwards & Hunt - Almost Heroes

Sure, everyone knows about Lewis and Clarke. But Edwards and Hunt have sadly been lost to history. Who would have thought that there was a rival gang of overweight explorer fighting bears, Indians, and eagles while trying to discove the Pacific Ocean? Where’s their holiday??

Pixar Announces 2 Mind-Blowing Upcoming Movies At D23 http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/pixar-announces-2-mind-blowing-upcoming-movies-at-d23/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/pixar-announces-2-mind-blowing-upcoming-movies-at-d23/#comments Sat, 20 Aug 2011 20:17:16 +0000 Joseph Gibson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=225256 Dinosaurs, and that's just the first one.

The people at Pixar are used to routinely blowing the minds of audiences around the world. So it’s natural to get excited about their new projects, even when the details are a little slight. So it is at the Happiest Con on Earth, D23, where Pixar announced a few tantalizing details for 2 future features.

The first one involves, of course, dinosaurs. Set for release on November 27, 2013 (Pixar is nothing if not prepared), the currently untitled project will be directed by Bob Peterson, who most recently co-directed Pixar’s Up. According to the panel the movie “centers around an alternate version of earth wherein the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs missed the planet entirely, so humans have evolved side-by-side with dinosaurs.” Some analysts have pointed out that this is weirdly similar to the premise of that live-action Mario Bros. movie, which might make this a good time to go ahead and admit that I haven’t seen the live-action Mario Bros. movie.

Girls Can Play Too In Pixar's 'Brave' Teaser

The second movie is set for release on May 30, 2014, and is even more mysterious than the dinosaur movie. Directed by Up‘s Pete Docter, it’s said to take place “inside the human mind” and deal with “the formation of ideas,” which might make this the Disney/Pixar version of Inception. Anyway, Cars 2 notwithstanding, it would be tough not get at least a little excited about these projects. (The Playlist)

Here’s the internet mashup that’ll make you cry. Well, it’ll make you cry if you remember watching the original Up, and I don’t think there was a dry pair of 3D glasses in the theater I was in after Ellie kicks the bucket.

From Ivan Guerrero, the maker of “Ghostbusters Trailer Recreated Using Old Movie Clips” and “Empire Strikes Back Trailer Recreated Using Old Movie Clips” comes, wait for it, “Up Trailer Recreated Using Old Movie Clips.” Spencer Tracy plays Carl Fredricksen, complete with giant hipster old person glasses, in this expertly-done “premake” of Pixar‘s story using live action film footage. They even managed to find a solid look-alike for Kevin the Freaky-Ass Looking Bird.

Next, someone will probably swede Guerrero’s remake trailers, and after that, the universe collapses in on itself. (Vulture)

Yeah that's right.  It's 15-minutes of watching a dude sitting in front of a computer while it renders seven frames of the movie.  There's also this part where Pete Docter orders a cheese sandwich from the cafeteria.I kid, I kid.  It's pretty cool.  Watch the other clips after the jump.
