He’s still a ways off from completing the script for Uncharted, but would like Scarlett to be his leading lady. If he gets his druthers she’ll star opposite Mark Wahlberg as Elena, a large-chested journalist who helps Drake as he swashbuckles through El Dorado. There’s hope for Nathan Fillion yet! With a story plotted and lead cast, Uncharted is chugging right along. Oh, except now it doesn’t have a story or a cast.

Uncharted 3 video game director Justin Richmond was interviewed by Joystiq recently and provided some interesting information regarding the film. First, he refutes the reported storyline that would bring Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in to supply the “family element.” And I don’t mean “family” in the Mafia sense. God, you guys are such racists. Here’s Richmond:

“First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell,” Richmond said. “He actually called us up and was like, ‘I don’t know what these guys are talking about.’”

Next, Joystiq drops the news that Mark Wahlberg hasn’t been cast just yet.

And Mark Wahlberg isn’t anywhere near to being confirmed to play Nathan Drake either — it’s just Hollywood scuttlebutt, apparently. Still, I dutifully told Richmond that the Joystiq Biomass had chosen, and Nathan Fillion has our vote. Message received, Richmond responded.

I haven’t played the game, so I don’t know if this news is good or not. But you wanna know what is good? Fluffernutters.

Well, here’s some news that may or may not piss you off depending on whether or not you own a Playstation 3 or the “Firefly” box set. First, Mark Wahlberg is re-teaming with David O. Russell for a fourth film. Secondly, that film is Russell’s adaptation of Uncharted. Nathan Fillion had previously campaigned for the role, which seemed like a perfect fit. And Fillion fans are fairly rabid, so expect to hear some outcry.

Personally, I’m okay with this. Mark Wahlberg was awesome in Boogie Nights, Three Kings, and The Departed and thus gets a pass. Besides, I can’t really imagine Fillion (fine actor and nice guy that he is) holding his own on screen with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, who have also reportedly joined the film. I do, however, have two concerns. Won’t the presence of Max Payne in Uncharted confuse the baby? And, how much more trauma can be thrown at the Whedonverse this week? (MTV)

David O. Russell surprised us all when he pulled a Paul Thomas AndersonPaul W.S. Anderson and took the helm of videogame adaptation Uncharted. MTV reports that Nathan Fillion, who apparently doesn’t mind gettin’ told, took to Twitter to campaign for the lead. He told his nerds:

"If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it. Rise, ye Browncoats. Rise, ye Castillions. RISE!"

And rise they did. They took to Deadline’s comment section to nominate Fillion for the role. He should realize if you wanna get anything done, you need to take your case to Facebook. Look what it did for Betty White and that pickle that’s more well-liked than Nickelback. I’ve gotta agree though. Fillion would be a great fit for the project. He’s got the chin, the bravado, and the swagger. With juuuuust a little bit of special effects work, he could really look the part. As evidenced by this high-end digital mock-up.

I don’t know what’s happening to our arthouse directors. Last week Aronofsky was linked to Wolverine 2 and now Sony has confirmed that director/Lily Tomlin enemy David O. Russell has been hired to write and direct an adaptation of the videogame "Uncharted: Drake‘s Fortune." So, you know, I’m all like, ‘Whhaaaaaatttttt????!!?????’

Originally, Kyle Ward was hired to write the script but lost the gig due to duties on Hitman 2. Then Sony went to Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, even though they wrote Sahara and A Sound Of Thunder. Somehow, the gig now belongs to O. Russell. I gues Paul Thomas Anderson (either one in this case) was unavailable.
