How many people out there actually love TV AND Twitter?

It should be no surprise that people who prefer to digest information in 140-character increments also really, really like their television shows. It’s also of little surprise that they will probably find invaluable something a 17 year-old invents.

Enter Twivo, an app that strips all the spoilers from your Twitter timeline. Actually, it removes all references to TV shows and characters that you select, leaving you with a Twitter feed that’s probably just a bunch of pictures of food with the hashtags #belieber and #selfie.

SOOOOOO, if, for instance, you didn’t want to know that (SPOILER ALERT FOR REALS) Jamie Lanister lost his hand right before a bitchin’ Hold Steady cover of “The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” then you would probably pull “Jamie Lannister” and “Game of Thrones” from your Twitter feed using the app.

You can now find the app as a Chrome plug-in, but expect to see Twivo as a standalone app sometime around the end of this sentence.

Spike Lee: Dumbass Or Good Dude?

You make the call.

Last week, Spike Lee was under fire for releasing the address of Trayvon Martin’s killer, George Zimmerman, to the public. However just this action might seem appropriate to some given the lack of repurcussions Zimmerman has experienced, this move condones vigilante justice and should not be taken lightly by officials. Seriously. It’s like something the Joker would do. Or something close to what the Joker would do, considering the address was wrong and Spike Lee just sicked a vengeance-hungry mob an elderly Florida couple. Oopsie!

Many are ranting that Spike Lee is a dumbass and calling for him to be held accountable. He has since apologized publicly and reached a settlement with the couple that they were happy with. Going to assume it wasn’t an autographed Bamboozled poster. The question is begged, is he a dumbass or a good dude? Let’s take a look at his history and decide for ourselves.

Comes Off Antisemitic While Defending Claims of Antisemitism

The Anti-Defamation League accused Lee of antisemitism after the release of Mo’ Better Blues. The Josh and Moe Flatbush characters in the film struck a chord due to their “shylock” characterizations. However, Lee refuted these allegations by stating he could never make an antisemitic film in Hollywood because it is fact that Jews run the film industry. Maybe he should run future statements through a public relations person.

Verdict: DUMBASS

Suggesting Charlton Heston Be Shot Was A Total J/K

Lee rose eyebrows in May of 1999 when speaking about National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston, “Shoot him with a .44 Bulldog.” Lee spoke out on his own behalf after the New York Post ran the quote. “I told everyone there it was a joke. I said I did not want to read in the papers, ‘Shoot Charlton Heston.’”

People didn’t really get a kick out of his comedy stylings, least of which was Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey (pause for four minutes of giggles), who said Lee had “nothing to offer the debate on school violence except more violence and more hate.”

Considering he wasn’t officially invited to a debate, I’ve got to thumb my nose at Dick Armey. Although, Lee of all people should know how sensationalistic the New York Post is. Seems like he was trying to get his name in the papers to promote Summer of Sam.

Verdict: DUMBASS

After it was discovered that Penn State football coach Joe Paterno knew his assistant coach Jerry Sandusky had been molesting children for years, Penn State’s board of trustees planned to allow him to retire at the season’s end. Then someone used a doll to show the trustees where Sandusky touched the kids, and the decision was made to dismiss Paterno immediately.

Ashton Kutcher took offense to this decision and posted on Twitter:

How do you fire Jo Pa? #insult #noclass as a hawkeye fan I find it in poor taste

Then he evidently had the case explained to him and quickly pulled the tweet before apologizing profusely.

As an advocate in the fight against child sexual exploitation, I could not be more remorseful for all involved in the Penn St. case.

As of immediately I will stop tweeting until I find a way to properly manage this feed. I feel awful about this error. Won’t happen again.

Great! Now if we can only get him to apologize for his career…. (BuzzFeed)

We get sick of reporting on sequels sometimes, so here's this.

We’re about to share with you the answer to this question that no one asked. I don’t know who would subject their European grandmother to YouTube stardom, especially as a conduit for Snooki’s bland, horrible thoughts, but the person behind the camera has no bones about it.

That said, the grandmother does make some very good points. Road trips ARE fun. And Snooki is an asshole. Right on both counts, Granny.

Also, I’m thinking of Grandma wearing a romper and peeing. Not my favorite thing.

Go about your Monday.

Also, I disagree on her “green tea is the shit” stance. Chai is where it’s at.

Why? Because that’s what #ssholes do.

At any rate, I was quickly drawn into a hash-tag battle over what the show should be called . Rather than let this pure comedic gold go to waste, I thought I’d post the results.
Thanks to the advent of Twitter, it's become even easier for him to stir up trouble.

Film critic Roger Ebert is taking a lot of flack for his controversial tweet in regard to the death of Ryan Dunn. Apparently, pointing out that drinking alcohol and driving over 100 MPH is a bad idea rubbed some people the wrong way. Granted, it was a dick move to post so soon after Dunn’s death. Dunn’s friend and Jackass costar Bam Margera said as much, replying “Millions of people are crying right now, shut your fat fucking mouth!” Even Ebert himself has apologized for the timing of the tweet. But aside from that, he is sticking to his guns on Dunn, maintaining that “he drank, he drove, 2 people died.”

Regardless of your feelings on the comment, you have to admire Ebert’s willingness to speak his mind. And it’s even more impressive, considering the man literally cannot speak. But due to his opinionated nature, Ebert has often found himself at the center of controversy (No, I’m not talking about the fact that he gave Phantom Menace four stars). And thanks to the advent of Twitter, it’s become even easier for him to stir up trouble. With that in mind, here are five of Roger Ebert‘s most controversial comments.

“Video games can never be art…”

You could almost hear the rage building in the hearts of gamers as they read the headline to Ebert’s infamous blog post, “Video games can never be art.” The post consisted of Ebert bashing a medium of which he knew nothing, and had no desire to learn about. The response was swift, and surprisingly cordial. According to Ebert, only a handful of the nearly 5000 comments were rude. Most were well thought out, constructive criticisms. Ebert went on to admit the stupidity of commenting on the subject given his complete lack of knowledge, although he still believes he is right. At least when he acts like a fool, he admits it.

Rush Limbaugh should be horsewhipped…

In the wake of the 2010 Haitian earthquake, President Obama urged Americans to make a donation to the Red Cross relief fund. So that people could easily find a link to the Red Cross site, it was posted at the official White House website, whitehouse.gov. Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh called into question the need to visit the White House website in order to get to the the Red Cross, insinuating that money could be misappropriated, and those who donated could end up on the DNC’s mailing list. Ebert was outraged by the accusations, and commented in an open letter that Limbaugh “should be horse-whipped for the insult (he has) paid to the highest office of our nation.”

No American-flag shirts…

In May of 2010, Roger Ebert weighed in on yet another controversy that had nothing to do with film. At Live Oa High School in Morgan Hill, CA, five students were sent home for wearing American Flag tee-shirts and bandannas on May 5th (a.k.a. Cinco de Mayo) out of fear it would offend students who were celebrating their Mexican heritage. The move set off a firestorm of complaints in support of the kids who were sent home. Ebert disagreed with the support, tweeting that…

@ebertchicago Kids who wear American Flag T-shirts on 5 May should have to share a lunchroom table with those who wear a hammer and sickle on 4 July.

His tweet set off a firestorm of its own. Reasonable objections to his position were drowned out by a swell of hateful replies mocking Ebert’s cancer and subsequent facial deformities. Ebert replied to those mocking his misfortune…

@ebertchicago Dear TeePee tweeters making fun of my cancer: You want ugly? For that you have to look at a mind, not a face.

“TeaBaggers”…

In case you haven’t already figured it out by reading the previous entries, Roger Ebert is a bit of a lefty. As such, he’s not big fan of the Tea Party movement. In one particular tweet, he referred to its members as “Teabaggers” and “nutjobs.” When confronted about using a pornographic term to describe his political opponents, Ebert claimed he had forgotten “teabagger” had a pornographic connotation. Critics pointed out that he had used the term in his reviews as recently as 1998. In all fairness, it’s possible Ebert forgot what the term meant, considering he spent the past decad fighting cancer and having his entire jaw removed.

The Huckleberry Finn controversy…

Earlier this year, Ebert decided to chime in on the decision of NewSouth Books to publish a version of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn with the word “nigger” completely removed and replaced with the world “slave.” As an ardent opponent of censorship, Ebert was none to pleased with the decision, and took to Twitter to complain, claiming he’d “rather be called a nigger than a slave.” Despite the context, it didn’t take long for the outrage to grow. Eventually, Ebert backtracked, tweeting “I’ll never be called a nigger *or* a slave, so I should have shut the **** up.” That’s a fair point. My only question is if you’re going to start dropping N-Bombs, why would you bother to censor an F-bomb?

Or does he just hate science?

“Hey, look! A celebrity said something stupid on Twitter! Let’s make a big deal about it!”

And so it goes. This time, the celebrity in question is Russell Crowe, and the tweets in question have to do with circumcision. Of all the things I thought I might be writing about today, The Gladiator‘s views on foreskin removal were near the bottom of the list. But yet, here we are. And to make matters worse, the tweets have resulted in charges of anti-Semitism. It’s days like this I wish that whole rapture thing had panned out.

So, what’s all the hubbub? It all started when an expecting father asked Crowe (via Twitter) if he should have his son circumcised. Because honestly, when it comes to the matter of baby dicks, who else are you going to ask? I won’t post the entire rant, but Crowe was quick to reply.

Circumcision is barbaric and stupid. Who are you to correct nature?

Is it real that God requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect.

Last of it, if you feel it is your right to cut things off your babies please unfollow and f**k off; I’ll take attentive parenting over barbarism.

So, in case you’re not adept at picking up on subtlety, Russell Crowe does not like circumcision. But the real problems started when Crowe tweeted to the Bear Jew himself, Eli Roth.

many jewish friends, I love my Jewish friends, I love the apples and the honey and the funny little hats but stop cutting yr babies @eliroth

And you can imagine where it went from there. The Hollywood Reporter labeled the remarks as anti-Semitic, the twitterverse was up in arms, and the statue of Anne Frank in Amsterdam shed a single tear.

Now, Crowe’s comments are many things: obnoxious, stupid, pompous. But they are by no stretch anti-Semitic. Yes, the “little hats” comment was somewhat condescending, but it’s hardly a matter for the ADL. Eli Roth himself said as much, chastising the Hollywood Reporter for even suggesting Crowe was a bigot, and claiming that the hat comment was a joke between friends.

The Bear Jew is right (he’s always right, damn it). Russell Crowe is not an anti-Semite. However, he’s also not terribly bright. He’s entitled to his opinion, but what in the world made him think that going on a Twitter rant about baby foreskin was a good idea? Does the man who starred in Virtuosity bring a unique take on the matter to the table? And why, oh why, did he make the “little hats” comment in the first place? Yes, I believe he was making a joke to his friend, but why broadcast such a joke to the entire Internet? Eli Roth knows you’re kidding. Eli the militant Jewish man with a chip on his shoulder might not. You’re just asking for trouble.

But of all the stupidity on display, the following Tweet takes the cake. In response someone who commented on the supposed scientifically proven benefits of circumcision, Crowe had this to say…

@Hodanismail My friend, “human” science has caused too much damage, don’t be a moron

I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, why is “human” in quotes? Human as opposed to what? Elven science? Christian Science? What the hell is he talking about.

Second, why the hell is he bitching about science? Granted, not everything science has brought us has been good (the Industrial Revolution lead to pollution, splitting the atom lead to nuclear war, the ability to record music lead to the Black Eyed Peas, etc.). But considering Russell Crowe is probably alive today because of vaccines, travels around the world on private jets, and works in a field that is completely dependent on technology, I find it baffling that he feels the need to beat up on science. Perhaps instead of being a rich and famous movie star in a highly developed civilization, he’d be more at home wearing animal skins while squatting in his own shit, and desperately searching for food to bring back to his cave before the sun god goes away for the night?

Yes, while Russell Crowe might not be an anti-Semite, it is still very possible that he’s an idiot.

Quentin Tarantino likes to handwrite the title page of his screenplays. The good news is that it’s a neat thing to do. The bad news is anyone with a camera phone and a third grader’s handwriting can pretend-tweet to have an authentic Tarantino script. Damn you, information age.

Twitter user @agenttrainee twote the picture below, which is supposedly the cover page of Tarantino’s new western. Django Unchained sounds like a jazz album somebody recommended to be in college, but I never listened to. The film will definitely star Christoph Waltz and has been described as a spaghetti western. That much we know for sure, not that I don’t trust all news stories broken on Twitter.
Looks like mother-lovin' Justin Timberlake will host this year's final episode of "SNL."

Wow, that title was a bit of a stretch. However, this Twitter-based rumor is far from it: looks like Justin Timberlake will host this year’s final episode of “SNL” on May 21st.

T-Lake’s been on”Saturday Night Live” so many times, I think they’re gonna finally give him the infamous “Official Steve Martin ‘SNL’ Hangout Guy Plaque.” So it makes sense to have him host the finale, which is typically a strong episode with a proven host. Last year’s May finale host was Alec Baldwin, and the year before was Will Ferrell. I’m sure Andy Samberg is already thinking about a Digital Short to end all Digital Shorts. I assume it won’t be a musical number of some kind.

How was this found out? The news was leaked via a Twitter conversation – not a Twitter war, sadly. Here’s what went down: an “SNL” follower wrote…

I didn’t realize that @nbcsnl isn’t back until May 7th!!! What am I going to do!? Is Tina Fey the season finale!? #SNL #aaahhhh

To which one of the show’s Twitterators replied:

Nope! We have Timberlake after that!

The tweet has since been deleted. However the box has been opened. The dick has been revealed, mother lovers. (Huffington Post)

Everybody look surprised. I seriously hope a series of alarms go off at Twitter HQ when that happens.

Novelist Brett Easton Ellis, the satirical author behind American Psycho, wrote the following eyebrow-raising nugget into the Twittersphere:

“I like the idea of ‘Glee‘ but why is it that every time I watch an episode I feel like I’ve stepped into a puddle of HIV?”

That’s some in-ter-es-ting word choice for a show that has an inordinate amount of gay characters. It’d be like calling “Seinfeld” a “puddle of Holocaust.” I assume Ellis will either apologize, or”Glee” creator Ryan Murphy will furiously respond and generate more Tweet drama. On a related note, I miss the days before Twitter when celebrities used to fight each other in person at the “Source Awards.” If nobody comes out of this with a black eye or chipped tooth, I’ll be so angry… I’ll have to sing about it? (Vulture)

Franco took to Twitter to blast hard-to-look-at Oscar joke writer Bruce Vilanch. Is he really blaming Vilanch? Did he slip Franco sleeping pills or something?

It’s safe to say that James Franco is a little touchy about his Oscar performance. Or rather, the performance that he slept through / was extremely high during. After the Oscars, he posted a photo on Twitter that read “F*ck the Yale Daily News,” in response to a critic at the Yale Daily News. Wow, you’d think a big celebrity would be able to take a little heat from a college newspaper, but maybe doing 500 projects simultaneously has left him a tad irritated.

Now Franco has taken to Twitter again to blast hard-to-look-at Oscar joke writer Bruce Vilanch. In a recent interview, Vilanch said: “I have to call James Franco and tell him the show’s over … He took a nap and woke up in class.” Obviously, Vilanch was going right for the jugular, actively trying to hurt Franco’s feelings. Franco took the joke in stride, and searched his inner Perez Hilton for an appropriate response. See the photo below, which reads – in word bubbles coming out of Vilanch’s mouth: “James f*cked up the Oscars. Trust me, I know comedy. I mean, come on, I write for Bette Midler.” Zing-zanged.

Franco, a handsome, Academy Award nominated actor, probably could have ignored Vilanch’s relatively harmless joke. After all, besides successfully selling jokes, what else does Bruce Vilanch have? A collection of funny t-shirts and Robin Williams‘ contact information.

If they end up brawling, I want to see Vilanch go all Casey Heynes on whiney Franco and slam him to the ground. Also acceptable: a massive bear hug. (TheWrap)

If you’re on Twitter you can follow him at @JimCameron. Does this mean we all have to start calling him “Jim” now? Because I’m so used to “James” I think that would be kind of hard to get used to.

The filmmaker is more prolific on Twitter than he is in Hollywood – he’s been a tweeter for 2 hours and has already churned out 3 tweets – One introducing himself to Twitter, one complaining about press junkets, and one (of course) Ryan Seacrest re-tweet. Rumor has it that his next tweet will be completely under water. (MovieLine)

The helmer of such hits as 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up thought Gervais was too mean and snarky to the poor wittle Howwywood Cewebwities, who have apparently never been made fun of before last Sunday?

After Gervais slammed Tim Allen before his entrance, Apatow tweeted, “The Santa Clause was better than The Invention of Lying.” Defensive much? Later on, Apatow tweeted, “Ricky Gervais should do an episode of ‘extras’ where he hosts ‘the golden globes‘ and is out of tune. Cut to female friend looking disappointed.” Then he asked his followers to write kinder, less cruel jokes for his hosting gig at the “Producers Guild Awards,” and the winning entries will be read on stage. Here are a few highlights:

@totallymorgan The PGA Awards are so cheap even the host had to crowd-source material.

@alecowen It’s not hard to be funny and not vicious. For example, fuck you.

@isaac_arquieta Were you all REALLY expecting @JuddApatow to pick funny jokes?? Hasn’t done it in over 5 movies, Why would he start now?

From what I’m hearing, most regular folks seemed to enjoy Gervias’ performance and some tweeted Apatow back statements like, “@JuddApatow seems surprisingly bitter.” Later, Apatow revealed he was tweeting at 2 am. I’ll chalk this up to another case of “sleep before you tweet.” (Collider)

As of right now, Conan has 272,791 followers, but by the time you realize Screen Junkies exists and actually read this post he could be inactive (dead). In the bio section of the Twitter verified account it states, "I had a show. Then I had a different show. Now I have a Twitter account." Oh how the mighty have fallen. But no worries, NBC will allow Conan to talk directly to humans again in September, and it seems Fox has an interest in providing him with a stage and broadcasting these interactions. Until then, follow Conan's Twitter here, and read more of his interviews with tiny woodland creatures. On Monday, you can watch Jay Leno on the show he stole back from Conan, that is if you're a sadomasocist. (HitFix)
