Her performance in True Grit paquined her into the hearts of the Academy and now Paramount wants to drill into that appeal and convert it to dollars.
Paramount released a free 24-page ‘True Grit’ comic book online. I’m happier than Rooster Cogburn after winning a lifetime supply of bootleg whiskey by killing the guy who was running the raffle.
It’s really just a thrill to be nominated. Unless you’re M. Night Shyamalan. Then it’s a miracle.
True Grit, the critically acclaimed Coen brothers’ film, came in second with $24.5 million, and Tron: Legacy snagged third with $18 million. But none of this matters, considering we are living in a cold, meaningless world where Little Fockers reigns supreme.
One thing you’ll notice when you see True Grit is that the dialogue is a little different. Obviously they don’t talk like OMG, WTF in the Old West, but it’s different than even the Clint Eastwood and John Wayne westerns.
It’s a good thing True Grit is a good movie, otherwise the critics would have had a field day rhyming with Grit.

Technically this is a spoiler alert, but if you see any photos or trailers of Jeff Bridges as the new Rooster Cogburn, you’ve probably figured it out.
Releasing one bad-ass poster for True Grit just isn’t enough to appease those Coen Brothers. As the film’s December release draws near, the marketing team is beginning their full press.

True Grit isn't messing around with its new poster. The tag "Punishment Comes One Way or Another" lets you know that sh*t is gonna get real, and real fast. The broadsheet style seems appropriate for the film, and Josh Brolin's name bleeding out is the perfect Coen Bros. touch. Sure, I'll go ahead and check this one out come Christmas. It might be nothing short of awesome.
The teaser for Joel and Ethan Coen's True Grit just rode into town, and it looks like a good one. The action follows Hailee Steinfeld's Mattie Ross as she teams with Jeff Bridges to hunt down the coward that killed her pappy. You might be quick to say that the Coens are trying to recapture the magic of No Country For Old Men, but that I really don't see the similarities. For instance, this teaser keeps it fresh with sun-bleached Western scenery, gunfights, Josh Brolin, and dorky haircuts. Oh.
Check out the teaser after the jump…
Yesterday we saw Colin Farrell sporting a combover for Horrible Bosses, and now we've got a first look at Jeff Bridges wearing an eye patch for The Coen Brothers' True Grit. Oh those silly actors and their dress-up make believe fun time. Bridges plays alcoholic U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn in the re-adaptation of the Charles Portis novel. The original adaptation starred John Wayne in the role of Rooster, who teams up with a 14-year old girl to avenge her father's murder. Hailey Steinfeld plays the girl, Mattie Ross, this time around, and Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are also on board as a Texas Ranger and the murderer respectively. The film opens Christmas Day. I just basically wrote the formula for an Oscar nomination. Especially since Bridges has the drunk character thing on lock. If you win an Oscar twice for playing a drunk do you have to go to AAA? That's Acting Alcoholics Anonymous for all you sober non-thespians out there. Don't worry, my writing packet is already in the mail to Leno. Check out more pics of Bridges as Rooster after the jump.
After casting a nationwide net, Joel and Ethan Coen have found an actress to portray the young protagonist in their True Grit remake. Thirteen-year old Hailee Steinfeld will be joining forces with Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon to hunt down Josh Brolin. Though Steinfeld isn't as popular as her co-stars, all of that is going to change. Her character, the fourteen-year old Mattie Ross, is described as a “simple, tough as nails, young woman in post-Civil War Arkansas. Her unusually steely nerves and straightforward manner are often surprising to those she meets. She possessed plenty of true grit and determination."Let's hope that Hailee Steinfeld is every bit as precocious as the character calls for. Remember, fourteen-year olds in Arkansas are considered mature for their age. They're at least mature enough to legally wed. (Deadline)
And the winner of the 2011 Oscar for Best Picture is… True Grit. Oh sorry, I was future-writing again. The Coen Brother's True Grit hasn't won any awards yet (nor has it been filmed or finished casting) but Paramount is showing a lot of faith by setting the remake up for a Christmas Day release.Jeff Bridges is set to star as Rooster Cogburn, the drunken U.S. Marshal originally played by John Wayne, as he teams up with a 14-year old girl to avenge her father's murder. Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are also on board as a Texas Ranger and the murderer respectively. There's a lot of talent involved here and it looks like a definite contender even this far out.Bridges has a good shot at finally winning his Oscar this year with Crazy Heart. So who knows? Maybe next year the role will bring him Oscar glory like it did for Wayne. Then he'll become a member of the back-to-back winner's club. A club that hosts Luise Rainer, Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, Jason Robards, Tom Hanks, and Zac Efron. Sorry. Future-writing again. (Variety)
