"True Blood," the popular HBO series about vampires, features an eclectic cast of "True Blood" characters with a long list of secrets, sins and vices. The show takes place in the fictional small town Bon Temps, Louisiana two years after scientists create a synthetic blood called "Tru Blood." This scientific advance allows vampires to begin integrating into mainstream human society, as they no longer must rely on human blood for food. "True Blood" is based on "The Southern Vampire Mysteries" series by novelist Charlaine Harris.

  1. Sookie Stackhouse. Played by actress Anna Paquin, Sookie is "True Blood's" lead character. A telepathic waitress, Sookie's life is turned upside down when she falls hard for vampire Bill Compton.

  2. Bill Compton. Bill, a 173-year-old vampire and Sookie's love interest, is played by Stephen Moyer. Returning to his hometown, Bon Temps, Bill struggles to control his bloodlust while navigating his complex, supernatural social sphere.
