Treat Williams (And Phillipe, Gugino, Spader) In For ‘In Virtue Fall’

Treat Williams cannot be stopped. He’s having a Travolta-esque renaissance in 2011, having scored his third high-profile gig in By Virtue Fall. Oh yeah, also, Carla Gugino, Ryan Phillipe, and James Spader are in it, but let’s not drag the spotlight off of Mr. Williams just yet.

Ok. Now we can.

Eric Bana has long been attached to play a lead in the film which focuses around two ATF agents who become enemies after one frames the other for a crime. It is rumored that both Jeremy Renner is being considered for the other leading role.

Not a bad cast for writer Sheldon Turner‘s directorial debut. This casting announcement means that the studios are honing in on a commencement date in the not-too distant future as these names won’t be sitting by their phones forever.

Treat Williams Is Doing A Thing With Quentin Tarantino!

Treat Williams is racking up the roles! Last week there was report that he’d be starring opposite Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde in the criminal murder spree thriller Blackbird, and now there’s word he’ll appear in a spaghetti western alongside Quentin Tarantino. There’s no word on who is actually directing but with the news that Keith Carradine is also cast, one would think Tarantino is at the helm. Or some random director of Syfy Original Movies.

The news comes via Italian actor Franco Nero. He says:

“Boomba clot, rude boy-a. People been axing me abow dis movie mon, and I..”

Hold on. Sorry. My Italian always sound Jamaican for some reason. Let’s try again:

“The film will be called The Angel, The Bad And The Wise and is a tribute to Sergio Leone. It’s a movie that contains humor, lots of action, but also a great plot. We have already been signed by a dozen people who will be part of project. Among the filmmakers involved include Quentin Tarantino, Keith Carradine, Treat Williams, fifteen people in all Americans who want to do this movie and so we are trying to produce it outside of Italy.”

Muuuuch better. This project sounds like it has promise. Further casting will the decider here so I’ve definitely got my fingers crossed. In my experience, when Quentin Tarantino wears a cowboy hat, bad things happen. (Movie Player via The Playlist)

Treat Williams Is Doing A Thing!

The thriller Blackbird, starring Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde as cop-killing thieves on the run, has cast the role of a father and daughter who have the misfortune of crossing paths with the criminal couple. The father will be played by none other than “Everwood”‘s very own Treat Williams. For the billions of people not familiar with Mr. Williams’ “Everwood” work, he also established a name for himself as the poor man’s Tom Berenger, having filled in for Berenger in the three straight-to-video-and-TV sequels to The Substitute. For those unfamiliar with The Substitute or any of its sequels….screw it. Here’s Treat Williams’ IMDB page.

Williams’ onscreen daughter will be played by Kate Mara, who has appeared in Iron Man 2, happythankyoumoreplease, and most notably, 127 Hours along with Williams, though they shared no scenes. She also has a role in the promising comedy Peep World, which will be released this spring.

Blackbird is directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky, who won the 2008 Best Foreign Language Picture Oscar for The Counterfeiters. It will start shooting next month in Canada and is anticipated to get a Sundance release around February of next year.

Is it possible that Treat Williams’ father character could defeat the criminals and become the star of countless Blackbird sequels and spinoffs, establishing Treat as Hollywood’s most bankable actor, as I’ve always felt he is?
