We haven’t seen Matt Damon get mad at anybody since he showed Minnie Driver‘s phone number to Viggo the Carpathian. But now he’s showing animosity toward The Bournce Legacy writer and director Tony Gilroy. He hasn’t been shy about disliking Gilroy’s work and claiming allegiance to dismissed director Paul Greengrass. Gilroy and Greengrass have very different styles and, in fact, Gilroy refuses to be in a room with Greengrass. I know, what a bitch!

But now there are reports that this anger might end any of Damon’s participation in a continuation of the series.

“I think if [Bourne Legacy] doesn’t work, we can just ignore it and pretend it didn’t happen, and that’d be fine,” Damon said. “But I expect that it will work and only help us if we did another one, which I’d love to do.”

“At the end of the day, it’s between me and Tony, and we’ll figure it out or we won’t.”

How do you like those apples? (The Playlist)

Edward Norton To Get Villainous In ‘Bourne Legacy’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/edward-norton-to-get-villainous-in-bourne-legacy/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/edward-norton-to-get-villainous-in-bourne-legacy/#comments Wed, 13 Jul 2011 00:48:38 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=219967 He's probably going to be one of those really lame villains that uses brainpower instead of guns.

The Bourne Legacy may not have scored a villain as creepy as Chris Cooper, but got one that’s plenty nerdy in Edward Norton. Norton is expected to go up against Jeremy Renner’s hero in the first Bourne-less installment of the Bourne franchise. The two will also be joining Rachel Weisz in the project.

Details on the project have been locked down pretty tightly, so it’s not known what kind of vilain Norton will be, but it’s a safe assumption that he won’t be the kind of villain that goes around beating people up. Though Norton has been seemingly M.I.A. the past few years, he’s got a nice track record of villainy with Primal Fear, Death to Smoochie, The Score, and American History X.

That said, he’s currently playing some sort of scoutmaster in Wes Anderson‘s Moonrise Kingdom, so maybe a refresher wouldn’t kill him. (Variety)

Either Luke Evans knows something we don’t or he’s behind on movie news. Despite Friday’s report that Jeremy Renner has been offered the lead role of Not Jason Bourne in The Bourne Legacy, Evans noted on Saturday that he is still in the running for the role.

According to Evans, there are four actors in contention for Not Jason Bourne — Joel Edgerton, Dominic Cooper, Garrett Hedlund, and Evans.

“I’ve met the director, he’s fantastic. The script that I’ve been given, I’ve not been allowed to read the whole script, no one’s allowed to read the whole script, but the script that I’ve been given is great. It’s so well done. It just rolls off the tongue. It’s just nice to be in good company, there’s four of us left.”

So what does this mean for Renner? Did he take Gilroy’s offer, throw it to the ground and elbow drop on it while screaming no? It’s likely that exact scenario is exactly what happened. Or, it would be if I were an actor. Not enough projects are passed on via elbow drop. (via The Playlist)

In case something happened to your memory, Matt Damon has bailed on Jason Bourne, sympathy-bailing on the series with director Paul Greengrass. Bourne trilogy screenwriter Tony Gilroy is now snuggling into the director’s chair for #4, and another actor presumably gets to play a new lucky agent who becomes a one-man ultimate killing machine, courtesy of Operation Treadstone. Who will it be?

The biggest stars in the mix are Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal. If Bourne Legacy requires this new agent to do a lot of embarrassing on-screen crying, I’m guessing Maguire will snag the role. However, there are a bunch of somewhat less famous actors in contention, including Taylor Kitsch (the terrible Gambit from X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Garrett Hedlund (Jeff Bridges’ kid from Tron: Legacy) and Kellan Lutz (one of the Twilight-ers). Gilroy is insisting that all the actors screen test, so we’re guessing he’s not a total web-head or Twi-hard.

The Bourne Legacy is tentatively scheduled to open fire on theaters August 2012. (The Playlist)

Matt Damon stated he would standby Greengrass, and walk from the project as well. Since that time, everyone was curious what would become of the franchise. Recast? Reboot? A prequelization? Is that a word? Today, Gilroy answers the burning question. Matt Damon will not appear in the film, nor will his character be recast. The Bourne Legacy will not feature Jason Bourne whatsoever. Rather, a new agent will be introduced in an effort to expand the Bourne universe and conspiracy. So, like Teen Wolf Too? (Hollywood Elsewhere)

KITCH!! KITCH!!" Last fall, it seemed like the Bourne series was sunk when Paul Greengrass pulled a bitchfit and removed himself and star Matt Damon from a fourth Bourne film. That doesn't seem to bother Universal too much. Despite the fact that he directed Duplicity, they've just hired Tony Gilroy to direct the next chapter. Gilroy, of course, wrote each of the previous films as well as the newest script. Not sure if they plan to use Damon, recast, shoot a prequel, or go the tried-and-true route of using a cardboard cut-out. You really can't tell the difference if you shake the camera around enough.
