Judging by this trailer, it’s a lot of inconsistent stylization and some bizarre half-jokes from…yup, Will Smith.

The 1960s time-travel story line seems to be tenuous at best, as though a writers‘ room had settled on a script, then a junior writer raised his hand and said, “What about Mad Men?” Then the entire room decided that they needed to set the movie in Austin Powers 1960s rather than any era that actually existed.

One final note: The bikes that the agents ride look exactly like the vehicles from South Park that plug people’s asses and mouths, but are still better than going through security at the airport.

After ten years away from the screen, the MiB are still operating in secret under the nose of John Q. Public. A powerful enemy escapes their holding cell and travels backward in time to kill Agent K and rewrite history. Agent J, being the fan of history that he is, finds a way to jump back in time as well to stop the fiendish plot. This is a pretty vague first look, so let’s look forward to a longer, more plot-driven trailer. In other words, let’s see Alice Eve in some tiny 1960′s dresses.

In exchange for these, all we ask for is one more scene where he’s yelling and pointing at someone while his teeth are clenched, but only because he loves them so damn much. He can wear a wife-beater or not. It’s entirely up to him.

The film spends a healthy first act on Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) as the digitally shrunken 90 lb. weakling. It establishes Rogers’ nobility and sincerity well so that you’re really proud of him when he becomes the super soldier, instead of resenting Evans for having such impressive abs.

'Captain America' Trailer: Still No Sympathy For Nazis

The ‘40s World War II setting does a lot to enhance the sense of wonder of a comic book movie. You really get to live in a fantasy world, with old New York City and a World’s Fair-esque Stark expo. The idea of Captain America first used as a marketing tool to sell war bonds makes the period really engaging. You get to see production numbers and the patriotism feels innocent when it’s WWII.

Supporting characters shine in this section too. Col. Phillips (Tommy Lee Jones) is hardass deadpan funny. Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) never overdoes it as a potential love interest. The movie never really allows Rogers to enjoy his new ladies man status, but at least Carter isn’t reduced to an object.

Meanwhile Johann Schmidt (Hugo Weaving) is so evil that the Nazis are too small time for him, so he starts his own Hydra party. Eventually we have to stop having fun so Rogers can rescue the troops Schmidt captured, expose him as Red Skull and fight bigger and badder opponents.

The action is actually not Captain America’s strong suit. A lot of it looks obviously green screen. I mean, when there are miles and miles of factory or warehouse behind them, I know they didn’t build that set. That makes a chase scene lack any feeling of distance. There are no knockdown, drag-out fights. Each confrontation has one gag that the enemy tries against Cap, and then he solves it.

It’s still fun to see the Steve Rogers we know is all heart finally get a body to match. His first foot chase through New York has the thrill of discovering his own strength, along with a few goofy jumps from car to car. A train sequence is well constructed, though still 50/50 fake looking. The montage really highlights all of Cap’s moves, and plenty of lame CG shots too, but it showcases his powers and there could be a whole other movie in those WWII missions.

I enjoyed the film overall, I’m just explaining why it’s not quite Spider-Man, or X-Men: First Class or even Iron Man. But if the fans of Iron Man can forgive a 15 minute flashback including a Powerpoint presentation of Stark family backstory, they should love Captain America equally, flaws and all.

In the photos, we see Will Smith’s Agent J, Josh Brolin‘s Agent K, and a cowboy who showed up for work in a pink shirt hanging out in a field in Queens, NY. What are those shiny jetpack/rocket booster things they are trying on? Time machines, maybe? Or super-awesome jetpacks?? Whichever, I want one. (Faded Youth)

Stuhlbarg will play a character named Griffin. The role was originally offered to Sharlto Copley, but that deal never went through. Nothing is known about the character beyond his name, so we can’t accurately say whether he will get covered with slime or will cover somebody else with slime. I’m 90% certain that slime will factor in, however. Unless there is another re-write (snarf-laughs and then hi-fives other movie bloggers). (THR)

Baldwin had signed on to play the MiB boss back in 1969 but now schedule conflicts will prevent him from playing the straight man opposite coffee-drinking worms. “I’m not doing that. I’m out of it; the schedule didn’t work out,” he said.

Rumor has it that Will Smith is working on the screenplay for Men In Black 3. Frankly, we’re just giddy at the thought of the man who wrote “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” transferring his writing prowess to the big screen. Who knows what wondrous surprises are in store for film goers? Actually, we do. Here are 10 possible surprises in Will Smith’s upcoming Men In Black 3 screenplay.

10. Zach Galifianakis and Betty White are shoehorned into the story as the “fat bearded alien” and the “old lady alien,” respectively.

9. The script is peppered with no-less than 14 references to I, Robot that will be understood by less than 1% of the audience.

8. The script contains an extended sequence in which a drunken Rip Torn tries to break into a bank.

7. Instead of aliens, the MIB now protect us from sexy, homoerotic vampires.

The production have yet to shoot the sequence that shows Will Smith’s Agent J in 1969, where he meets Josh Brolin as Young Tommy Lee Jones and Alice Eve as Young Emma Thompson. Perhaps those are the scenes that need the most work according to Sony. Either that or they want more jokes about how Elvis could totally secretly be an alien. (Deadline)

All the action takes place in one room after Jackson has saved Jones from getting mutilated by a train. After the incident, Jackson invites Jones back to his apartment to argue about religion and try on suits. Because that’s what you do in those situations. But on a serious note, Samuel, it’s time to clean your walls, dude.

The Company Men is a movie you want to see if you want to see Hollywood superstars portray the plight of the common man. No matter how hard you’ve had it during the economic crisis, it’s got to make you feel better that Ben Affleck, or at least a character he’s portraying, knows what you’re going through.

Bobby Walker (Affleck) gets laid off in a round of corporate downsizing. While he deals with the humiliating routine of job hunting, Gene McClary (Tommy Lee Jones) tries to stick it to the man from the inside. Gene was Bobby’s boss and he thinks it’s wrong what the CEO James Salinger (Craig T. Nelson) is doing but his noble values are lost on the money men.

It may sound like I’m being facetious about Ben Affleck representing the common man’s drama. I actually think that’s classic Hollywood. Show us our best and put him through the worst so we know he can come out the other side. Sharp dialogue represents all the emotions and points of view one can have in that situation. We need the Ben Afflecks of the world to whittle these themes down to palatable entrees.

How Bobby and his wife Maggie (Rosemarie DeWitt) react to the situation is human. So, it’s not smart. They try to keep acting the same in a different world. They don’t adjust to the new situation. Bobby keeps spending and trying to ride on confidence. Maggie tries to keep it a secret and hope this goes away soon. I know it’s hard, but avoiding the sacrifices doesn’t work.

For the first part of the movie you see how people just don’t react to each other. Bobbie and Maggie defend themselves and talk at each other. Bobby just has to cling to his lifestyle and Maggie just can’t explain why scaling back could be supportive and not scary. Right or wrong, it’s good drama. It shows some hard questions not getting asked because they’re just too scary. Then when it’s too late, it’s even scarier to face them.

It’s still a mellow movie. It’s not too heavy. This isn’t medicine. It’s just provocative and sympathetic. The characters ultimately make some interesting decisions and surprising alliances. The resolution is ultimately humbling, in a good way. We should examine what we take for granted. The moment Bobby finally realizes what his children need from him should impact all viewers, whether they’re parents or just caring people. Written and directed by John Wells, The Company Men does remind me of the sort of direct, relatable drama he packed into episodes of ER.

Along the way, little moments resonate. The frustrations of a qualified executive stuck in a hackneyed employment are embarrassing to the whole corporate structure. Watching Bobby face insulting and demeaning offers is infuriating. Pride is a huge issue but there’s humor in his angry reactions. It’s cathartic, but still sad. He’s just angry and helpless. Telling someone off doesn’t take any power back.

The corporate side is a very strong counterpoint to Bobby’s story. Gene’s efforts are valiant and it puts a face to the frustrations at an executive level too. His life isn’t great just because he’s still employed, but there’s also only so much he can do. It’s a complicated machine, and the film puts it in simple human terms, but they’re still valid. Salinger’s plan to maintain his stock value while devaluing the company is pretty noteworthy. It certainly doesn’t invalidate my distrust for the relative value of stock investments.

In conclusion, I have it good. I get to be an entertainment journalist. I sympathize for people who have the circumstances portrayed in The Company Men. I hope my review represents you well.

Emma Thompson has signed on to head up the Men in Black. The British actress who last played ugly, but I’m sure charming in her own right, Nanny McPhee will play Oh in Men in Black 3. Thompson will be the new boss in charge, as Rip Torn can no longer be trusted to keep a super secret government agency on the rails **mimes taking swig of whisky**. Good luck getting Tommy Lee Jones to take orders from a woman. He’s going to scowl a whole lot more than usual. (Deadline)

Dammit Ben Affleck! We should have known better!! First, you won some of us over with Hollywoodland. Then, you shut up all the haters by directing the sh*t out of Gone Baby Gone. Which you then followed up by starring in the equally awesome-seeming The Town, which is directed by everyone’s new favorite director, Ben Affleck. And then you churn out this generic guy-gets-fired melodrama on our chests and destroy all your hard-earned goodwill. Mother was right! You didn’t change!! YOU’LL NEVER CHANGE!!!

Plot details for Men In Black 3 have entered the Internet’s atmosphere and they reveal the film will be set in the 1960′s. In the film, Will Smith must travel through time to stop Jemaine Clement’s evil alien Yaz from killing Agent K. The thought being that without K around to defend the galaxy time and time again, the world will be completely destroyed. Which is bad. But on the other hand, we wouldn’t have to suffer through Tommy Lee Jones’ portrayal of Two-Face in Batman Forever. It’s a toss up for me.

The Apple Store appears in the film as a time travel hub with the iPhone being the primary device for personal time travel. It still won’t be able to make or accept calls though. Science fiction can only take you so far. (JoBlo)

We’re getting late word tonight that Captain America: The First Avenger has picked up actor Tommy Lee Jones. The pickup allegedly took place in the bathroom stall of a "superhero bar" where Captain America was trolling for actors.

During a recent interview, Actress Hayley Atwell, who co-stars in the film, confirmed that Jones is on board with the project. Although his actual role has not been announced, experts (i.e. my 28-year-old cousin who still lives in my aunt’s basement) speculate that Jones will star as General Chester Phillips, the officer who chooses Steve Rogers for the super soldier program. Jemaine Clement of "Flight of the Concords" fame is slated to play the villain in Men in Black III. Clement joins Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and director Barry Sonnenfeld, who have all signed on to the project.

While details are scarce, Collider is reporting that Clement will play an evil character named Yaz. Based on Clement’s sideburns, one can only assume that "Yaz" is none other than Boston Red Sox’s great Carl Yastrzemski, aka Mutton-chop Yaz.

On the plus side, it would be hard to make a film any worse than MIB II. Unfortunately, Clement was already involved in the sci-fi related catastrophe, Gentleman Broncos, so anything is possible.

Will Smith and Columbia Pictures have officially chosen a date, so you can stop asking all the time, Will Smith’s mom. As foretold in the Ancient Scrolls of Fresh Princia, Men in Black 3D will indeed open Memorial Day Weekend 2012. Deadline reports that the sequel has set the film for a May 25th, 2012 release. Known in many circles as "Big Willy Weekend." Note: circles of idiots.

Tommy Lee Jones has yet to sign on, nor has Josh Brolin. The production is in the process of finalizing their deals. It’s unclear at this point which role Jaden Smith will be shoe-horned into, but I’m sure it will be justly earned. He’ll earn it you guys.

Director Barry Sonnenfeld told Showbiz 411 that Men in Black 3D is closer to happening sometime at some point. Will Smith has officially signed on and Tommy Lee Jones nodded awhile back, thus confirming his involvement. There’s only the small matter of a script, which didn’t seem to hinder the production of MiB2. I’m pretty sure the shooting draft of that was scribbled on the back pages of a Wild Wild West script. 

Men in Black 3D will be in 3D, as the title suggests and your common sense surmised. It’s most likely Sony’s hope that it lands in theaters Memorial Day 2011. Will Smith has a history of making that weekend his box office bitch.
