Not Even A Gangbang and Tom Sizemore Can Make ‘Snuff’ Sound Interesting

Chuck Palahniuk’s works would appear to lend themselves the big screen quite well. They’ve got quirky characters that actors would love to play, they’ve got plot devices that run from suicide hotline operators to commercial airline pilots to newspapermen to home invaders. But his work seems to require a very special touch to get right (Fight Club) or else things won’t go so well (Choke).

So what’s to make of Snuff, the newly announced adaptation featuring Daryl Hannah, Tom Sizemore, and Thora Birch? The plot revolves around an aging porn star (Hannah) going after the gangbang record with Sizemore and Birch playing porn industry folks. Sizemore can certainly lend a seedy element to most anything he appears in, but this film has all the trappings of a Lifetime movie, including the unknown director (Fabien Martorell). The fact that the director’s assistant wrote the screenplay is not inspiring heaps of confidence, either.

I would like nothing more than another Fight Club in my life, but something tells me that this film will end up toothless and cheap, not unlike the aging porn star it features. Of course, I could pull a total 180 on this if Snuff features a scene where Jared Leto get the crap beaten out of him for over 60 seconds. (Playlist)
