Tom Shadyac, director of Ace Ventura and Bruce Almighty, had a serious cycling accident that almost killed him. It also seriously altered his direction in life, going from directing Jim Carrey talking out of his butt to trying to save the planet. He taped his madcap adventures interviewing scientists about the problems plaguing our environment, strung them together, and called that thing I Am, not to be confused with I Am Legend. Just so we’re clear, there are no vampires in this film. There is something far worse: self-righteous hippies.

Sam Kinison Biopic To Scream At You Soon

Tom Shadyac is stepping out of the trailer park and back behind the camera. The Ace Ventura director will next take on a Sam Kinison biopic for HBO Films. The film is based on the memoir Brother Sam: The Short, Spectacular Life of Sam Kinison. Rich Wilkes, the writer of xXx (WTF?), will pen the script, and Dan Fogler is attached to star as the beret wearing comedian.

I personally have never been a huge fan of Kinison. I get the whole angsty thing, but the screaming schtick always annoyed me more than amused me. Even in the screen test of Fogler I’ve posted below, I just want to tell him to keep it down. In a tiny comedy club, Kinison’s primal scream must have been an assault on the ears. I’m trying to enjoy my chicken fingers over here, guy! (Variety)

‘Evan Almighty’ Director Tom Shadyac Gave Away His Fortune

Tom Shadyac, director of Ace Ventura, Liar, Liar, Bruce Almighty, and the catastrophe that was Evan Almighty, is done with money. The L.A. times made a call to poor country to, surely out of morbid curiosity, find out what’s up with Shadyac. Turns out he sold his mansion, moved into a trailer park, and gave away all of his Benjamins to unknown sources (hole in the woods). These drastic moves all came about due to a spiritual awakening he had after a bike accident left him with a post-concussion syndrome. “It’s already enough of a privilege to be an artist,” Shadyac said. “We don’t need any more privileges.” If you listen closely, you can hear a collective fart noise emanating from the Hollywood Hills.
