In a moment that’s so very Kathie Lee, it pretty much is the culmination of her existence, here’s a clip of The Today Show in which Kathie Lee asks Martin Short how his wife’s doing.

His wife died two years ago.

As cringeworthy as the clip is (and it’s really hard to imagine more embarrassing innocent mistake on live television), he answers in a very touching way that reaffirms his love for her after raising three kids. Short even had the class not to call her out on her mistake till after the commercial, instead just talking about how much he loves her.

Internet Completely Baffles 1994 Bryant Gumbel

To me, last year’s internet — The Double Rainbow Guy, The Trololo Guy, The Evil Clown Rappers Who Hate Magnets — feels like ancient history. So this clip from “The Today Show” in 1994, where Bryant Gumbel doesn’t know what crazy things like “internet” and “@” symbol mean, is like watching the beginning of time unfold.

A few highlights:

- Katie Couric and bright orange Bryant Gumbel can’t agree on how “@” should read. Turns out the well-dressed Oompa Loompa was right.

- “What is internet anyway,” wonders Gumbel. All you need to know is that it’s coming and Hamsters will dance on it soon enough.

- “What, do you write to it, like mail?” Oh, Mr. Gumbel… of course you write to it. The internet is powered entirely by human letters.

- “Computer billboard…” (?) I remember information super highway, global eVillage and magical data supermarket, but not computer billboard. The internet would be way cooler if it was one giant poster for True Lies.

Breaking News: Kanye West has beef. The other day on the “Today Show,” the outspoken rapper taped an interview with Matt Lauer which, if you’re a reader of Kanye’s Twitter you’d know, didn’t go smoothly. You’d know this because he wrote, “Everything sounds like noise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERYTHING SOUNDS LIKE NOISE!!!!!!! I don’t trust anyone!” Clearly an interview went south, or Kanye was trapped in an antique cuckoo clock shop at high noon. We now have video evidence of the incident. Lauer asked Kanye about the MTV Video Music Awards/Taylor Swift debacle, and during Kanye’s response the show ran footage of the rapper’s inappropriate shoutout to Beyoncé. How dare the “Today Show” provide audio/visual aid while Kanye is trying to defend himself. It’s a lot harder for him to justify his behavior when you just go and show how unjustifiable it is. TV Mom, Meredith Baxter is a Gay

Meredith Baxter, the actress who played Elyse Keaton on TV’s Family Ties, revealed on this morning’s Today Show broadcast that she is a lesbian. "I am a lesbian, and it was a later-in-life recognition," Baxter told Matt Lauer. After three failed marriages Baxter realized her attraction to women and has been in a few same sex relationships since. Baxter is currently in four-year relationship with a woman she met through friends. She had this to say about her partner, "Oh, It’s like I started breathing on the night we kissed. And I can’t remember what I ever did before. What would we do baby, without us? What would we dooo baby, without us? And there ain’t no nothing we can’t love each other through. What would we do baby, without us? Sha la la la."
