Fans who have missed the onscreen chemistry of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler can slowly, cautiously, breathe a sigh of relief, as Amy Poehler is in final talks to star opposite Tina Fey in the comedy The Nest.

The film will follow two sisters (guess who plays them. GUESS!) who return home to discover their parents have put their childhood home up for sale. The two spend one last weekend there, crying, laughing, loving, fighting, and doing all that emotional stuff.

Neither Fey nor Poehler wrote the script, but since Tina Fey is producing, we can hope it will have a little more of that offbeat charm than, say, Admission, which fell a little flat.

No word on the other stars, but it should just be a matter of time before Alan Alda is announced as the patient, lovable father.

In rare news, a hosting selection made by an awards show was both funny and likable enough to come back and do it all again next year. And the year after. I guess they don’t want to encumber the awards process past 2015 with the expectation that Miley Cyrus will become REALLY respectable and will be a no-brainer choice.

A close second in the running was simply abandoning the “awards” aspect of the Golden Globes, and having studio execs line up to stab Seth McFarlane and Ricky Gervais with letter openers while Billy Crystal runs around pretending to be an old Jewish man, which he now is.

Good choice by the Globes, and we look forward to them not only not sucking, but being actually, genuinely funny.

Beamed to us from the same alternate universe where Eric Stoltz played Marty McFly in BTTF, comes this original, unaired 30 Rock pilot starring Rachel Dratch in the role of Jenna, before she was replaced by Jane Krakowski. The decision to recast was made when NBC decided to scale back the in-show sketches and go with a more traditional sitcom actress. But Fey wanted to keep her buddy in the mix so decided to have Dratch play a different character in each episode which is a really fun idea like when Loo-Kee would hide in the background of She-Ra: Princess of Power episodes.

Only difference is Loo-Kee didn’t get totally f*cked by the execs at Filmation.

Considering 30 Rock‘s only been off the air for about three months, it’s safe to say that Tina Fey will have a hell of a time with retirement, should that day ever come.

She’s back with Robert Carlock and former 30 Rock writer Matt Hubbard to tell the tale of an all-girls college that has just opened its doors to men for the first time.

Tina won’t be acting in this, or the other project, but her presence is like a soothing, nerdy blanket that let’s us know that these projects presumably already have the 30 Rock seal of approval.

Since Tina Fey was once on Saturday Night Live, which means she’s now and forever will be the property of NBC, with Lorne Michaels as her legal guardian, she will keep producing content for them far after the end of 30 Rock.

The logline for this project is a female-centric workplace comedy, more in the vein of Cheers, in which the female lead reconnects with her father, who is probably gay, judging by his residence on Fire Island.

The show brings back not only Fey, but producer/showrunner Robert Carlock, so if you’ve been missing the 30 Rock crew, this might give you a fix in the next year or so.

In addition to a fruitful career doing weird things with his penis on HBO, Girls star Adam Driver is keeping busy with his film career. With roles in Lincoln and the next Coen Brothers film, Inside Llewyn Davis, under his belt, the strangely-shaped actor will join Tina Fey and Jason Bateman in This Is Where I Leave You. He’ll play the “rebel of the family” sibling in the Shawn Levy film, which also stars Jane Fonda, Kathryn Hahn, and Corey Stoll.

He may seem like he’s enjoying overnight success but Driver has actually been working on his craft for quite some time. In fact, I think he was brilliant opposite Billy Crystal in My Giant.

An undervalued performance. (THR)

Tina Fey, who knocked it out of the park with her Golden Globes-hosting alongside Amy Poehler, has responded to general inquiries as to whether she would host the Oscars.

“No way.”

It’s so funny. Seth MacFarlane said the same thing when people asked him if he would come back next year.

In the Huffington Post, Fey offered her take on the “opportunity”: “But I just feel like that gig is so hard. Especially for, like, a woman — the amount of months that would be spent trying on dresses alone … no way.”

So there you have it. Tina Fey, who seems to be among the most gracious and game people in Hollywood thinks the hosting gig is for the birds. It’s only a matter of time before Neil Patrick Harris gets the call, lest Billy Crystal be thawed out, blasted with pancake makeup, and amble lifelessly towards the stage to make fun of Jack Nicholson in Heartburn or something.

The 30 Rock series finale is bringing out the big guns with Ice-T(?) and Nancy Pelosi (?????), possibly to answer the “Will they or won’t they?” question we didn’t even realize we had been asking ourselves this entire time.

Nothing else is known at this time, aside from the fact that Nancy Pelosi has said that she “would do almost anything Tina Fey asks me to do.” Most people wouldn’t mean that literally and would draw the line somewhere before volunteering to act alongside Ice-T, but for Pelosi at least, anything means anything, so here we are.

As Ice-T’s SVU character would say…

“That’s messed up.”

Now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for: our Gif Recap of last night’s episode of “30 Rock,” which marked the end of the fifth season. All things considered, I think they went out on a high note.

Liz Lemon is visiting Dr. Spaceman to treat some stress-related cold sores. He assures her that there’s nothing to be embarrassed about (he gets them from hookers all the time) and offers her some R&R (Rum and Ritalin) for the stress. However, Liz only wants to treat the cold sores. She feels her stress is under control now that she’s booked a house in the Hamptons for the summe break.

Meanwhile, the others are making their summer plans. Jack is trying to figure out what to do with himself now that his wife has been kidnapped by North Koreans, the writers are engaged in a final melee battle on their PlayStation, and Jenna is about to land a big advertising deal with the Wool Council, who she impressed with a previous performance at the Wool Bowl.

Liz pays a fine she owes to the city for a hate crime she committed against a Jewish tree, and then heads for the Hamptons. Once there, all is going according to plan, until Tracy shows up and reveals that he’s purchased the homes around Liz’s guest house and is treating it like his own private playground.

Tired from a long day of golf, Tracy decides to take a nap on Liz’s porch. He has to rest up for his big night of firing guns into the air. Before he nods off, he mentions that he and Liz will be seeing each other a lot over the summer. He also warns her that he tends to scream in his sleep, but that she should not wake him no matter what, or he will attack.

Back in New York, Jenna is about to finalize her deal with the Wool Council, when the subject of her personal life brings the meeting to a halt. They are concerned that her cross-dressing boyfriend will sully wool’s conservative image. But after a stirring song, the head of the council agrees to give Paul a chance, and sets up a double date with Jenna.

Meanwhile, Jack is copping with the loss of his wife by replacing her with Kenneth. What starts as a simple act of kindness turns into an obsession when Jack forces him, the hapless page, to come over for dinner night after night. Jack’s assistant, Jonathan, ends up getting stuck with Kenneth’s duties, and is forced to call in his family for help.

Later, Liz confronts Tracy about his behavior, and tells him that she doesn’t want him to ruin her relaxing summer. But when Tracy threatens to cause trouble on set next season, Liz is forced to back down.

Jenna and Paul are hosting the president of the Wool Council and his wife. Although it is hard for Paul to hide who he is, the meal is going well. But when Jenna’s “sitter” shows up (a dwarf the couple pays to sit on them) he is forced to pretend that sexual fetishes disgust him.

Kenneth is having problems of his own, as Jack is now forcing him to completely take on the role of his missing wife.

After being forced to sleep over, Kenneth draws the line, and while impersonating Jack’s wife, tells him to stop feeling sorry for himself and move on. The speech snaps Jack back to reality, and Kenneth is free to go.

After the dinner with the Wool Council president, Jenna and Paul decide that they must be true to themselves. At the photo shoot, they publicly make out while dressed in drag, Wool Council be damned.

After much deliberation, Liz has a revelation, and decides not to pay her ticket for the hate crime, which results in mandatory community service. She finds the work relaxing, and is even picking up Spanish from some of her fellow trash pickers. Jack happens upon her in the park, just as Jenna and Paul are out for a walk. Tracy, who hit a golf ball onto the back of a truck and refuses to take a mulligan, is also passing through the park as he plays his way back to the Hamptons.

The group stops to admire Jack’s baby, while Kenneth watches from afar via telescope. In a “Lost”-like ending, he screams to an unseen “Jacob” that he “needs more time.” With that, the story ends, to be continued in season six.

What did you think of the way things ended? Is the show still going strong, or has the quality started to drop off?

“I will tell you one thing,” he told Vulture. “And that is our show next year is our last year of the show. Our contracts are expired [in 2012], and Tina is gonna have a big career directing films and writing. She’s going to be the next Elaine May. She’ll be great.”

It’s easy to forget that Tom Hanks started out on TV, dressing up like a woman to fool a hotel of ladies in “Bosom Buddies.” Now he’s closely associated with realistic war dramas, intense space dramas and talking to volleyballs. Oh, and Academy Awards. So it’s safe to say, he’s come a long way since the 80s.

However, Hanks will make his glorious return to sitcomdom on an upcoming episode of NBC’s “30 Rock.” There’s no information yet on who the Nicest Guy In The Universe will play in Tina Fey‘s much-lauded, much-ratings-challenged show – only that the star recently tweeted, “I’m on’30 Rock‘!” That seems to be a good indication that he will, indeed, be on “30 Rock.”

Since the show-within-a-show is “The Girlie Show,” maybe Hanks wants to return to his cross-dressing roots? But if his character was trying to pass as a chick, wouldn’t he be outed by such highly-observant, intellectual heavyweights like Tracy and Jenna? Yeah, I guess it could be the Susan B. Anthony Hotel all over again. (Hollywood Reporter)

America’s all-time favorite person, Tina Fey, is in discussions to star in the Paul Weitz film Admission, website The Wrap reports. Despite being early on in development (the project has yet to be greenlit), Weitz, who is producing the film as well under his Depth of Field banner, has had Fey in mind since becoming involved.

In Admission, Fey would play an Princeton admissions officer who falls in love with a prospective student that may not end up being Princeton material. Fey seems a natural fit for this role. Based on the limited information available, it sounds like this character could be in the same wheelhouse as Fey’s Liz Lemon from”30 Rock.” Let’s face it, this role will probably just call for Fey to play a caricature of herself, which has worked out just fine for her in films like Date Night and Baby Mama. However, with Weitz’s fingerprints on this, don’t be surprised if the picture ventures away from the trite, as he has done in earlier work such as About a Boy and In Good Company.

This does leave the question of who will play the student in this arrangement. Considering Fey can squeeze comic blood from a stone, the field is wide open. Let’s have the cast of Twilight participate in a deathmatch for the part.

Megamind is going to suffer for being the second animated superhero movie. In fact, it follows a long line of Dreamworks being second to Pixar (fish, monsters although they did beat them to insects). I’m not saying it’s The Incredibles, but Megamind is the best Dreamworks animated movie and certainly the best animated movie this year.

This is a complex story with very sophisticated forward momentum. There are five and a half characters involved with heroics, villainry, romance and training. It’s about what makes people a hero or villain, and the answer is not just simply one is bullied and the other is revered. Many characters play alternate identities because they feel their original selves are inadequate. These are deep themes for any movie, let alone a genre movie, let alone a mass appeal movie.

Both sent to earth from the same planet Megamind (Will Ferrell) lands in a prison and grows up to be a villain, while Metroman (Brad Pitt) lands with rich folks and grows up to be a popular superhero.  They take turns kidnapping and rescuing reporter Roxanne Ritchi (Tina Fey), but things start to break formula about 20 minutes in. Ritchi’s cameraman Hal (Jonah Hill) becomes much more than the generic Jimmy Olsen and Megamind’s Minion (David Cross) has a character arc too.

The film begins with irreverence for the tropes of superhero genre. Ferrell and Fey definitely contribute some knowledge of the genre, and Ferrell’s desperation is so engaging he has fun with the villain monologues.  It has something to say about hero worship, from children to grown-up society, even before it messes with the genre further. There’s some pop culture reference but it’s the smartest possible reference and it’s not the crutch of the movie’s humor.

The trailers are already giving away too much, so I don’t want to ruin it, but Megamind asks questions that have never been asked in a superhero movie before.  What does a villain do if he actually gets to be in charge? The answer isn’t a simplistic life lesson. It just sends the film in another deeper direction.

Ritchi, Hal and Megamind face real relationship issues, albeit with vague kid-friendly language. Ritchi may say she doesn’t want to “be with you” but the grown-ups know what she’s really talking about.  These feel like real characters, not caricatures with one-liners.

The classic rock soundtrack makes the movie feel relatable to our world. These are artists we’ve heard of, not cover versions or pop songs created just for the soundtrack. And it rocks, much better than the “Move It Move It” song from Madagascar.

The trailers seemed a little too The Incredibles-y to me, but this new footage has peaked my interest. Just the fact that Brad Pitt and not Steve Carell is voicing the film’s hero, Metro Man, is intriguing. Carell must have been busy on one of his fifty-thousand other projects.

Check out the prologue (which autoplays) after the jump…

Tracy Morgan more than likely will though. That guy pretty much craps anywhere and everywhere. (EW)

Homeless Brad Pitt wants your fingernails.

Another trailer for the Dreamworks animated film Megamind has dropped, and I still can’t help but feel like I’ve seen this movie before. Will Ferrell voices a supervillian who bumps heads with the aptly-named Brad Pitt-voiced superhero, Metro Man.

Dreamworks has given this yarn a different spin by focusing on the villain and his fish bowl-headed sidekick, voiced by David Cross, but my brain continues to scream The Incredibles!!! as I watch. The new trailer even reveals a plot twist that doesn’t help to differentiate itself from the Pixar movie. Somewhere on the set of “Parenthood,” Craig T. Nelson is shaking his head in disapproval while Bonnie Bedelia rubs his feet.

Check out the trailer after the jump…

Tina Fey may be a big hot shot deal now, but back in the day she was a Mutual Savings Bank loyalist. At least for 30 seconds. I guess this is how you said "hi" in the 90s?

‘Megamind’ Trailer Pretty Much Just Teases http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/megamind-trailer-pretty-much-just-teases/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/megamind-trailer-pretty-much-just-teases/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Stroke humor in its purest form. Dreamworks has released a full length trailer for their new animated film Megamind. It wants so very badly to be The Incredibles, but without the voice talent of Coach, a.k.a Craig T. Nelson, it's pretty much S.O.L. They could have at least tried for Jerry Van Dyke. The trailer plays out more like a teaser that pimps the voices of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina Fey, and Jonah Hill. I had to read the film's official synopsis to get a firm grasp of the plot, and the major turning point isn't even revealed in the trailer. Also, can we please put a cap on how many animated movies an actor can lend their voice to? Brad Pitt was a good get, but Jonah's shuffled up to the microphone in his P.J.s far too many times recently. Check out the trailer after the jump, and the synopsis so you can fill in the blanks. Megamind takes over theaters November 5, 2010.

From the studio that brought you “Shrek,” “Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda.” “Megamind” is the most brilliant supervillain the world has ever known. And the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way. Each attempt, a colossal failure thanks to the caped superhero known as “Metro Man,” an invincible hero until the da Megamind actually kills him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, Megamind has no purpose. A supervillain without a superhero. He realizes that achieving his life’s ambition is the worst thing that ever happened to him.  Megamind decides that the only way out of his rut is to create a new hero opponent called “Titan”, who promises to be bigger, better and stronger than Metro Man ever was. Pretty quickly Titan starts to think it’s much more fun to be a villain than a good guy . Except Titan doesn’t just want to rule the world, he wants to destroy it.  Now, Megamind must decide: can he defeat his own diabolical creation? Can the world’s smartest man make the smart decision for once?  Can the evil genius become the unlikely hero of his own story?

Their movie Date Night doesn't open until April, but it now seems they are eyeballing their next project together. Mail-Order Groom is a comedy about a naive woman who ends up with an Eastern European husband. And she'll probably think the food he eats is weird and gross. This is only in the maybe stage right now due to their respective schedules. But wouldn't it be fun if they become an on-screen duo? Like another Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn. Chunk and Sloth. Would you like that? No?? Whatever. I was just asking on the behalf of a friend anyhow. (THR)

Steve Carell and Tiny Fey star as a bored married couple whose attempt at a glamorous and romantic evening turns into something involving thrills, spills, and dinosaurs. Crap, wait, no dinosaurs in this one. But Nickelback does provide the music for the trailer. Damn you Levy, just when we think you've changed your ways, you go and use a Nickelback song. Regardless, the film looks like it could be rather funny, and Carell and Fey could give Grant and Hepburn a run for their money. If they weren't dead. Check out all the zany mayhem after the jump.
