There’s Still Interest In ‘Walter The Farting Dog’

I just knew that Alvin and the Chipmunks and Hop director Tim Hill could stay away from flatulent animals. Yesterday it was announced that Hill would bring new life to Number 5 with a Short Circuit reboot and today there’s word that he’s being courted for Walter the Farting Dog.

Based on a best-selling series of books by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray about a dog that farts a lot, the adaptation previously had the Farrelly Brothers attached with the intention of casting the Jona Brothers. Those plans have evidently not come to fruition but there’s still some time to get Justin Bieber and that Mastiff from Hotel For Dogs attached. Actually, maybe Bieber should screen test. I want this casting room filled with dog farts by lunchtime on Monday. And Justin wants pizza. (THR)

‘Short Circuit’ Reboot To Fall Under The Mindful Eye Of The ‘Alvin And The Chipmunks’ Director

Well, news came today that the guy who directed Alvin and the Chipmunks, Tim Hill, is going to direct a reboot of the 1986 robot comedy Short Circuit. And, as though we just found out that an asteroid is headed to earth, all we can do now is say our tearful good-byes and pray for a miracle.

Deadline reports that Dimension films is in the process of making a deal with Hill to reboot the property that they acquired in 2009. A sort-of silver lining can be found in the fact that the studio has scrapped the original team of Paul Blart: Mall Cop scribe Dan Milano and Paul Blart: Mall Cop director Steve Carr. Thank God for small miracles. It’ unknown at this time whether Johnny 5′s voice will be “urban” or “hilarious old Jewish guy.”

Hill will be supervising a new script that will, let’s face it, probably incorporate Kevin James into it one way or another.

Russell Brand Poops Candy In ‘Hop’ Trailer

I’d always felt that Russell Brand leads a charmed life and today I have confirmation that he poops candy. I knew that the director of Alvin and the Chipmunks couldn’t resist a poop-eating joke. He probably laughed like a bastard while watching The Human Centipede.

In the film, Brand plays the I’d-rather-be-drumming Easter Bunny (who is British for some reason), as he embarks on his yearly mission only to be run over by James Marsden. The end.

Oops. No. I guess there’s more movie after that. And David Hasselhoff. If there are two things that Tim Hill can’t resist, they are poop-eating and David Hasselhoff. Which do you prefer? (Apple)

James Marsden Boards ‘I Hop’ with Russell Brand

Looks like Russell Brand has a new excuse to go flirt with the crones on The View. He’ll be loaning his British accent to the upcoming live-action/CGI hybrid flipper-baby I Hop, from director Tim Hill of Garfield and Chipmunks infamy. In the film, Brand voices the Easter Bunny who is accidentally injured by James Marsden‘s Fred, an out-of-work slacker. Fred must then take in the Bunny until he recovers. At first it’s rough going but in the end they both learn some important life lessons. Awwwww. I smell a sitcom! Or something far, far worse!!! Everyone check your shoes. (THR)
