If you’ve ever been curious what Randy Newman does between Pixar movies, you now have your answer. Not one to let his talents go to waste, the singer-songwriter keeps himself busy by writing wildly unnecessary themes for inappropriate movies. He’s taken on lunatics before with “Short People,” and here he returns to familar territory with his take on We Need To Talk About Kevin.

On a mission to bum us all out, Lynne Ramsay has finally adapted Lionel Shriver’s novel, We Need To Talk About Kevin. Tilda Swinton stars as a mother recounting the events that lead up to her son massacring his high school classmates and teachers. Though you wouldn’t completely get that sense from this trailer. It’s played up as more of a whimsical tale of new parents raising a little asshole. It seems that from the time he is born, Kevin hates his mother but loves his dad, played by John C. Reilly. In all honesty though, who could dislike that Steve Brule?

Wait, What? Jim Jarmusch Gets Great Cast For Vampire Movie

Apparently even indie maverick Jim Jarmusch is helpless against the seductiveness of the sexy vampire movie. It’s been announced that he’s working on a “crypto-vampire love story,” and he’s gotten a pretty impressive cast to help him do it. Tilda Swinton, Michael Fassbender, Mia Wasikowska, and John Hurt are all going to be in his as-yet-untitled vampire movie.

I thought I was bored with vampires, but a vampire movie from Jim Jarmusch is pretty damn enticing, especially with this cast. Comparisons are being made with Jarmusch’s Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, but I don’t think we have any way on knowing if this is going to be Jarmusch at his most accessible or if this will be more like an Ozu movie with vampires. I’m happy though, because both of those sound pretty good. (The Playlist)

Everyone Wants In Wes Anderson’s ‘Moon Rise Kingdom’

A whole slew of actors want to play in Wes Anderson‘s quirky sand box. Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, and Tilda Swinton are all in talks to star in Moon Rise Kingdom, Anderson’s next directorial project that he wrote with Roman Coppola. A start date is set for next spring.

Moon Rise Kingdom is set in the 60s. Two young adults fall in love and run away. Leaders in their New England town are sticking the idea that they’ve disappeared and go in search of them. Norton will play a scout leader who brings his charges on a search. Willis is in talks to pla the town sheriff who’s also looking, and who is having an affair with the missing girl’s mother, the role McDormand is in talks to play. Murray, a regular in Anderson films, will play the girl’s father, who has his own issues.

Next spring leaves plenty of time for Murray to answer the messages that Anderson must be leaving on his 1-800 number. It’s the only way the eccentric funnyman will talk to anyone these days. I wonder how Anderson always seems to land him. Maybe they share the same taste in ironic t-shirts and music. It’s probably a really obscure band that you wouldn’t understand. (Deadline)
