We have our first picture of Daniel Day-Lewis as President Abe Lincoln. And after comparing it to this penny I found on the men‘s room floor, I have to say he really looks the part. That bodes well for Steven Spielberg, who is currently directing Lincoln in Virginia. But I have to wonder if this early buzz is really going to matter, considering we all know the ending: He gets his head blown off! I apologize if I’ve spoiled the film for any recent immigrants.

At any rate, since we all know the ending, maybe Spielberg should consider spicing it up a bit? Here are 9 suggestions. You’re welcome.

7 Movie Preachers Who Are Worse Than Fred Phelps http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-lists/7-movie-preachers-who-are-worse-than-fred-phelps/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-lists/7-movie-preachers-who-are-worse-than-fred-phelps/#comments Fri, 07 Oct 2011 20:08:23 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=231620 These guys need to get laid or something.

Alright, Fred Phelps. We get it. You don’t like things. That’s kind of like your whole thing. In fact, when events happen we now just automatically assume you won’t like it. There’s no need for you to come out and protest anymore, so just stay home. Think of the gas money you’ll save.

But as bad as Fred Phelps is, there’s always somebody worse. Well, maybe in this case, there’s not. In order to find someone more loathsome than our boy Fred, we have to look to the world of fiction. So, we did. Here are seven other preachers and holy men from the world of cinema who are worse than Fred Phelps.

Eli Sunday – There Will Be Blood

Eli Sunday is a little high on himself and his holy power, claiming that “God doesn’t save stupid people.” I guess he’s right in some ways. After all, he does stupidly provoke Daniel Plainview to steal from him and issue multiple beatings. He should have just been happy with his milkshake.

Archbishops - The Godfather III

Anyone who has ever paid for a wedding knows that priests love free meals and being tipped out. So why Michael Corleone would hand over $600 million to the Vatican and expect a return on his investment is beyond me. All is really earns him is a lot of bloodshed. Including his own.

Ever found your eyes darting around the screen during a movie and thought to yourself “I wonder if I could quantify my eye movement via computer analysis?” Neither have most people, but the science folks over at The Diem Project took it upon themselves to answer the question for us. As it turns out, it’s actually pretty cool. This video is the result of some of their research.

According to Diem Project representatives, “This is an excerpt from There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2007). 11 adult viewers were shown the video and their eye movements were recorded using an Eyelink 1000 (SR Research) infra-red camera-based eyetracker. Each dot represents the center of one viewer’s gaze. The size of each dot represents the length of time they have held fixation.”

Crazy cool. (BuzzFeed)

9 Classic Movie Posters Reinvented http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/9-classic-movie-posters-reinvented/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/9-classic-movie-posters-reinvented/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 The Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow (sponsored by Levi's) kicks off next week with public viewings of nine classic films around the country. In an interesting twist, the movies will be shown at the locations where they were filmed. The theme of the event is "‘We Are All Workers." Rooted by one of the nation’s founding principles, We Are All Workers hits the road with nine seminal screenings proving that everybody’s work is equally important. I'm an internet writer. My mere existence proves that we are not all "workers," and our work is not all "equally important." But considering the Roadshow's website describes The Godfather II, the story of a ruthless crime syndicate, as a "defining immigrant worker story," I probably shouldn't get too hung up on the logic behind the text. But what the event lacks in well written copy, it more than makes up for with these awesome redesigned film posters by artist Olly Moss. Enjoy. (First Showing) See the posters after the jump...
