As we thought, the rumors about Scorsese directing Wolf Of Wall Street this summer were as reliable as Bernie Madoff. The Leonardo DiCaprio movie will not be the Taxi Driver director’s next project. “Alright then, wiseguy. What is?”

We have confirmation his next project will be Silence. Though it’s debatable whether or not it’s golden, Silence is a drama based on Shusaku Endo’s book about two Jesuit priests in the 1600′s on a tumultuous journey, who travel to Japan to find their mentor and spread Christianity. It sounds a lot like a Harold and Kumar style road movie, only not like that at all. Silence has long been a passion project for Scorsese, though hopefully not in a creepy Passion of the Christ kind of way.

Benicio Del Toro and Daniel Day-Lewis will star, and the story was adapted by Jay Cocks (Gangs of New York). There’s no official shooting dates yet, because Scorsese still has to finish his crazy-sounding 3D movie Hugo Cabret. (The Playlist)

The rumor mill claims that Martin Scorsese is ready to helm The Wolf of Wall Street, with Leonardo DiCaprio set to star. Based on an autobiography by Jordan Belfort, it’s the story of hot shot Wall Street executives in the 90s, living it up and saying things to each other like, “this stock market party is going to last forever.” In 2007, Scorsese was announced as the director of the film, but then it fell into Ridley Scott’s lap after a studio slap fight between Warner Bros. and Paramount over the rights. Now it’s supposedly back in Scorsese’s grip, and the word is that DiCaprio’s manager Rick Yorn has secured financing to film in June.

This is where the whole thing kinda falls apart. A quick glance at Scorsese’s iCal would probably reveal he’s still shooting a big budget 3D movie, Hugo Cabret, for release this December. There’s gonna be a lot of post production robot/toy/crazy-world-in-your-face overseeing to do. Plus there’s The Irishman with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, which Scorsese said he might drunkenly roll cameras on later this year.

So I would take this rumor ziti with a big, hefty grain of salt. (The Playlist)

There’s been a bit of a staff change-up on the floors of The Wolf of Wall Street. Leonardo DiCaprio remains on-board as Jordan Belfort, the real life sex, drugs, and rock and roll huckster who took the public for all their worth with his pumped up prices. However, it looks like Martin Scorsese is stepping down from the director’s chair via a set of Doggy Steps to allow Ridley Scott the helm.

Will this project actually happen and do we actually need it? Scott should be busy with those Alien prequels and DiCaprio is still slated to play J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming Oscar bait. Besides, shouldn’t Wall Street 2 and the bazillion documentaries about the financial crisis cover this bleak material pretty well? I really don’t need a multitude of movies to remind me how I invested my life savings into stocks while they were at the bottom, only to see my investments issue a 210% return. Of course, I blew it all on nose candy. By which I mean, I spent a fortune on medical bills to get those damn Sweetarts out of my sinuses. (Deadline)
