What better way to hide those unsightly glory-holes in your wall?
Those hoping to see Eric Christian Olsen’s head bitten off by a Norwegian’s open chest cavity will have to update their calendars.
With The Thing prequel headed to theaters whether you like it or not, it was only a matter of time before we got a look at how they're planning to diminish the memory of the excellent John Carpenter film. These pics show stars Joel Edgerton, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Mr. Eko, and Eric Christian Olsen running around the Norwegian camp and killing an off-screen The Thing with fire. Unless they're Things themselves. Now I don't know who to trust. Quick, say something un-Thing like!! (HitFix)

Last month we posted the casting breakdown for Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.'s prequel to The Thing, and today there's word that the protagonists have been selected. Scream queen Mary Elizabeth Winstead and rugged Kurt Russell-proxy Joel Edgerton have signed on to be drenched in blood and guts. Winstead will play Kate Lloyd, a Ph.D. candidate who travels with Norwegian scientists to Antartica to investigate an alien craft frozen in the ice. The alien escapes and begins systematically ripping the scientists limb-from-limb. Edgerton plays Sam Carter, the badass helicopter pilot who doesn't trust them queefy doctors and trusts his own gut over their rich-boy "science." He eventually teams with Winstead to destroy the Thing.I've got mixed feelings about this prequel. I like this casting and am eager to see who else signs on, but this group of filmmakers has their work cut out for them despite their talents. The original was so good that the bar was set impossibly high. Also impossibly high, anyone who thinks this will measure up to the original. (THR)
Cameras are still set to roll in March for Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.'s prequel to The Thing. Plot details are beginning to surface as the date approaches. Spoiler TV published the casting breakdown which helps fill in some of the gaps on the story.News of note is that the film has a female lead and early rumors about MacReady's brother appearing in the film were wrong. I've posted the casting specs after the jump with the spoilers removed for those who have never seen a movie before and can't guess who will and will not survive. I can say that after reading through the spoilers and character descriptions, it seems that the movie borrows from Aliens, Lethal Weapon, and The Mist. In other words, we've got another Deep Blue Sea on our hands. LL Cool J should be expecting a call any day now. (Spoiler TV)CHECK OUT THE CASTING BREAKDOWN AFTER THE JUMP…
DIRECTOR: Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. CAST: TBDSYNOPSIS: In a remote Antarctica outpost, an alien spaceship is discovered far beneath the ice. When a group of ambitious scientists decide to thaw out one of the creatures inside, they’re in for the terrifying fight of their lives…
Production Weekly is reporting that the long-gestating prequel to John Carpenter's The Thing will begin filming in two months. Commercial director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. (thanks for the easy to spell name, Dad) will helm the alien vs human thriller, which is shooting in Toronto from March to June. The script, written by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica) and Eric Heissere (A Nightmare On Elm Street), tells the story of the doomed Norwegian camp that is found tattered and decimated in the original. There's no word yet on casting or more importantly on who will be handling the special effects. Here's hoping that the producers are respectful to the original and don't go with someone like Channing Tatum. Dude's acting is whatever and his visual effects portfolio is WEAK. (Production Weekly)
Anticipation is in the air as nerd boners stiffen and engorge across the country. The eagerly-awaited District 9 opens THIS THURSDAY AT MIDNIGHT and that means that YOU can be one of the first to see it. According to early buzz and our review, the movie is stellar. You should definitely stay up late to catch what looks to be one of this summer's best. I'd stay up to watch it but I've got to deliver my papers in the morning. It's my sworn duty and I intend to honor it. (District 9) Focus your eyeballs on these morning links… Some info about The Thing prequel. (/Film) Paul Giamatti replaces Sean Penn in The Three Stooges.
