Bryan Singer To Direct Unnecessary ‘The Munsters’ Reboot

The names stitched onto the canvas chairs on the set of NBC‘s The Munsters reboot are about to get redundant. X-Men director Bryan Singer has signed on to the Bryan Fuller produced series. Singer will executive produce and direct the show’s pilot. Fuller’s previous works include Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls, and Dead Like Me. All are known for striking visual style, sarcastic voice, and poignant moments. Singer seems like a perfect choice to pull off that blend.

Based on the campy 1960′s comedy about a family of monsters living in suburbia, Fuller’s reboot reinvents the series as an hour-long drama. With any luck, Sir Ian McKellen will play the role of Grandpa. (Deadline)

NBC Thinks A Puppet-Based Sitcom Is Something You’ll Watch

If this doesn’t pull NBC out of 4th place, nothing will.

The ailing network has given the green light to The New Nabors, “a comedy about a human family and the repercussions they encounter living next door to a family of puppets.” Yeah, that’s right, it’s a puppet show. Say what you will, but unlike The Munsters, at least it’s an original idea.

The good news is that The Jim Henson Company is involved, which gives the puppets some instant street cred. The bad news is it’s on NBC, so even if it’s hilarious, no one is going to watch and it will be lucky to squeeze out two full seasons.

NBC Now Thinks People Will Like ‘The Munsters’ More Than ‘Community’

NBC is going to dig itself out of its fourth place hole by canceling beloved-but-low-rated shows like Community and rolling out familiar, derivative remakes that no one asked for, like The Munsters. The network just ordered a pilot episode, adhering strictly to the adage that no one went broke underestimatin the American public.

Fear Factor’s return is another example of this logic.

No details have been given about the return of the campy 1960′s sitcom, other than it will envisioned as an hour-long drama. Oh, so it will be like American Horror Story or True Blood. Hmmm. Maybe people will just keep watching the originals and not the neutered spinoffs. At least, that was the fate that Playboy Club met.

Whatever. This is horrible idea that no one is excited about. Here are my casting thoughts:

Hermann – Joel McHale

Grandpa – Alan Alda

Lilly – Evangeline Lily

Eddie – Zac Efron‘s developmentally disabled brother, Uggo.

Marilyn – Raven Symone

‘The Munsters’ Are Going To Be A Thing Again

Many have voiced concerns that Fox’s premature cancelation of the critically-acclaimed "Lone Star" will water down the presence of creativity in the network television landscape. If this next item is any indicator, eff yeah it will.

Because there are no original ideas allowed anymore and because this was such a big hit, NBC has announced plans to team with Bryan Fuller to bring back "The Munsters." Wow. A rehash of a lame 1960′s sitcom about a family of monsters and their one hot relative does not sound appealing at all. Besides, it’s totally redundant to have this on television while "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" is still airing. (EW)
