Tom Cruise Is Latest To Probably Turn Down ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’

Hot potato! Tom Cruise is the latest A-lister to circle the long in the works adaptation of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.. Based on the 1960′s spy action series, U.N.C.L.E. follows American agent Napoleon Solo and Soviet agent Illya Kuryakin during the Cold War. Many feel that this casting will not take given the history of this project. Then again, Tom Cruise loves playing a spy. He’s got like nine spy movies under his belt at this point.

Previously, Steven Soderbergh was attached to direct but when he couldn’t get George Clooney to sign on, the project went into a tailspin. The studio considered Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum, Joel Kinnaman, Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender but those castings did not come to fruition. Guy Ritchie is currently in the director’s chair but hasn’t had much luck casting this sumbitch either after offers to Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were turned down. If Cruise decides to pass, Ritchie will also walk. Why they don’t just offer it to Liam Neeson, I do not know. He’ll star in anything.

Not to tell studios how to do their job or anything, but I think they’d have a lot more luck finding their lead if the character wasn’t named Napoleon Solo. Sounds porny. (THR)

Warner Bros Realizes That Guy Ritchie Is Perfect For ‘Man From U.N.C.L.E.’

Now that Steven Soderbergh has soderberghed his way out of directing Warner Bros‘ Man from U.N.C.L.E. adaptation, it is free to court other suitors. Though it’s not always healthy to bounce from relationship to relationship (ask Thor 2), Warner’s Man from U.N.C.L.E. is now getting involved with director Guy Ritchie and Sherlock Holmes producer Lionel Wigram. And you know what? They’re really cute together.

It’s just talks right now, but I could see them totally going steady. It’s really just a matter if Ritchie and Wigram are willing to up route their lives and move to the 1960′s for the adaptation. (THR)

George Clooney Might Be Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Man From U.N.C.L.E.’

Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney (a.k.a Gorgeous George) is considering the lead in Steven Soderbergh‘s adaptation of “The Man from Uncle,” The Playlist is reporting. If the project goes through, it will mark the seventh time that Clooney and Soderbergh have collaborated on a film.

Like the original TV series, the film will center around a spy organization known as U.N.C.L.E. (the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement) and will take place in the 1960′s. But unlike the original show, the film probably won’t advertise cigarettes or hyper-color tee-shirts. Hyper-color was from the 60′s, right? Well excuse me, History Nazi! We all can’t afford community college!
