By all accounts, viewers are saying that The Flash is a really good show about a guy that runs really fast. And that’s it. After the show’s impressive ratings debut, the CW released this trailer that teases some of the situations that will cause the Flash to run around a lot this season. Bad guys on motorcycles, a bad guy that can create an army of clones that all need to be punched at the same time, and a bad guy that can evaporate if not punched quickly enough. I’m beginning to wonder how this character has had such a rich and storied history.

The seemingly boundless marketing campaign for CWs The Flash has paid off in a way that the show hasn’t seen in half a decade. The superhero high school origin story, so similar to countless other superhero origin stories, came in second only to The Voice in adults under 35.

It’s sort of funny to imagine adults over 35 making CW‘s The Flash appointment television, but if The Voice is the most popular show in that timeslot, than it’s pretty clear I don’t understand how television ratings work.

So if you had initially just tossed this show in the big pile labeled, “comic book spinoffs,” you can leave it there, but know that a lot of other people are tuning in, so you might be forced to stay current on the office water cooler Flash gossip.

Cause The Flash is the new Breaking Bad.

He drew rave reviews for the script to Stoker, and now, he’s set to play Captain Cold. Prison Break star Wentworth Miller will join the CW‘s new Flash series as the guy who will be shooting cold guns at The Flash.

Miller will first appear as Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold aka The Guy Named After A Sneeze-Fart in the fourth episode. In the comics, Captain Cold is a character surprisingly layered despite what his moniker would suggest. He’s the leader of The Rogues, a criminal organization comprised of The Flash’s greatest enemies. He’s also a fan favorite and I’d expect viewers will see him recur as the series continues. Repurposed for evil, Wentworth Miller‘s blue-steel is going to cause a lot of destruction. (THR)

We’ve reached a dark nadir in filmmaking with news that the lamest superhero of them all (yes, I considered Aquaman), Flash Gordon, will be getting the ole’ reboot-arino treatment in the near future.

Fox will be running with the red, tight-wearing hero after a producer fought for a year to get the rights to remake it. A YEAR! To remake a Flash Gordon film that no one wants!

The only notable aspect of the 1980 version, aside from how terrible it was, was that Queen recorded the theme song, which is a terrible waste of Queen.

Bradley Cooper Laughs Off ‘Flash’ Rumors http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/bradley-cooper-laughs-off-flash-rumors/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/bradley-cooper-laughs-off-flash-rumors/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Earlier in the week we reported a rumor that Hollywood was eyeing Bradley Cooper to play Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash. Turns out someone was shooting off at the mouth again and deserves a stern smack in it. Super Hero Hype caught up with Cooper and got his reaction to the whole Flash casting fiasco: "I've never heard anything about it ever in my life," Cooper responded, laughing that the idea of his casting has become so prevalent online. "It's funny," he added. Funny? There's nothing funny about lying. Rumors make us bloggers look like hopped up gossip whores, running all over the world wide web, spreading hearsay into the eyes and ears and mouths of the masses. The Internet won't stand for it! ...Oh wait, yes it will.

Bradley Cooper as ‘The Flash’? Sure, Why Not? http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/bradley-cooper-as-the-flash-sure-why-not/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/bradley-cooper-as-the-flash-sure-why-not/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Artist's Rendering of Bradley Cooper as The Flash Bradley Cooper is busy on the set of The Hangover 2, but that hasn't stopped the Hollywood rumor mill from speculating about his next project. And somehow, this unseen, all-knowing group has determined that Warner Bros. is eyeing Cooper to play Barry Allen. For those of you who lost your virginity before the age of 25, Barry Allen is also known as The Flash. According to the Silver Age origin story (or should I say, "according to Wikipedia"), the character of The Flash was born when lightning struck a shelf full of chemicals, causing them to explode onto police scientist Barry Allen. Rather than killing Allen, like most chemical explosions would tend to do, the accident gave him the gift of super speed, which he then put to use fighting crime. A chemist once gave my friend the gift of "super speed," but all he ended up fighting was a plate glass window and some oncoming traffic. He lost. (Latino Review)

Greg Berlanti Discusses His Gritty Take On ‘The Flash’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/greg-berlanti-discusses-his-gritty-take-on-the-flash/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/greg-berlanti-discusses-his-gritty-take-on-the-flash/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Green Lantern producer and co-writer Greg Berlanti offered up some info about how he's handling the gritty world of The Flash. Also, The Flash is going to be gritty now. Flash' as we're getting into it is interesting, too. Though Barry Allen was a little lighter in the comic, I think because of the nature that he was a CSI and moved in this world of crime before this stuff happened. I think it's tonally somewhere in between 'GL' and 'Dark Knight.' It's actually a little bit darker than when we were working on ('GL'), because you're dealing with somebody who is already a crimefighter in a world of those kinds of criminals and that kind of murder and homicide. I find you talk a lot about different films when you're working on a film, and we spend a lot more time talking about 'Se7en' or 'The Silence of the Lambs' as we construct that part of Barry's world, then I thought when we got into it. It helps balance a guy in a red suit who runs really fast. He's totally right. I've always said that Se7en and The Silence of the Lambs were okay movies, but y'know what would make them great movies? The presence of the Flash. In fact, I feel that Zodiac's greatest failing was its absence of a red guy in a suit who runs really fast. That and the fact that pretty much nothing happened in it.
