It’s a magical feeling when you meet that special someone who is hot and British and just as accident prone as you, if not more. So, it’s no surprise that Jason Segal is eager to put a ring on it in this trailer for The Five-Year Engagement. It, in this case, is Emily Blunt who accepts his proposal but then decides to prolong the engagement when she gets an exciting job opportunity. Hilarity tries to ensue and people fall down a lot. If I didn’t see these accidents actually happening, I’d swear that this couple was in an abusive relationship.

Directed by Nicholas Stoller, The Five-Year Engagement also has an impressive 60% Must See TV supporting cast, which features Chris Pratt, Alison Brie, Mindy Kaling, Chris Parnell, and Jacki Weaver.

Looks like Katherine Heigl‘s (somewhat valid) criticisms of Apatow’s portrayal of women as shrill and joyless hasn’t affected his ability to draw female talent like moths to a bearded Jewish flame. Today brings us news that Alison Brie of “Community” and”Mad Men” notoriety is the next actress to betray her gender by appearing in an Apatow film. In Five-Year Engagement, Apatow will focus on the ups and downs of a couple (played by Jason Segal and Emily Blunt) over the course of their relationship. Brie will portray Emily Blunt‘s younger sister/shoulder-to-cry-on. It would appear that in Apatowland, women don’t have friends, only sisters. If a female Apatow character has no sisters, she is an island, fated to settle down with a man-child, turning her frustrations inward unti Paul Rudd or whoever learns to change.

Brie also stars in Scream 4, hitting theaters April 15. Her schedule is busy enough that she is perhaps the only person in entertainment not worried sick over the inability of “Mad Men” producers to get a production schedule together for season 5. (Variety)

History is happening here, folks. Please take a moment, open your journals, and write this information down. Trust me, you’ll want to always remember where you were when you first heard this news. Emily Blunt might appear in a good movie. Years of indentured servitude to 20th Century Fox have forced her to pass on films like Iron Man 2 in favor of Gulliver’s Travels, but now it looks like she is free and clear to team up with Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segal for their Forgetting Sarah Marshall follow-up, The Five-Year Engagement.

The story centers around a couple who are hesitant to put a ring on it. Comedy will be a departure for Blunt (Gulliver’s Travels doesn’t count) but I believe she’ll shine in this role. As a fan of Segal and Blunt, I fully approve of this. Let’s ge Paul Rudd attached and call it a day. (Vulture)
