No, I’m not going to tell you what it is. That will take all the fun out of it. And require me to write an extra sentence, which is total bullshit.

In documenting the late, seminal director’s favorite works, the holier-than-thou Criterion Collection posted this list.

Here they are without commentary: Eraserhead, Citizen Kane, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Godfather, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Dog Day Afternoon, City Lights, La Notte, Roxie Hart, Hell’s Angels, An American Werewolf in London, Metropolis, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Abigail’s Party, Roger & Me, White Men Can’t Jump, Modern Romance, and The Jerk.

Okay. Screw the “no commentary” part. What did he like about White Men Can’t Jump? I pray to the god of all things funny and weird that it was Rosie Perez’ performance.
The Criterion Collection wants more of your time and less of your money.

You may have laughed when Hulu announced Hulu Plus, where for 8 dollars a month you can see more of what Hulu has to offer on its streaming video service. But now there’s a legitimately compelling reason for plunking down what amounts to almost a hundred dollars a year for the service: The kings of DVD at the Criterion Collection have plans to add the entirety of their vaults to Hulu Plus. The first batch of these movies numbers at around 120 titles – here are a few personal recommendations from yours truly:

-Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights

-Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Diabolique

-Akira Kurosawa‘s High and Low

-Federico Fellini’s La Strada

-Jacques Tati’s Playtime

-Francois Truffaut’s Shoot The Piano Player

-Brian De Palma’s Sisters

And that’s just from the first 4 pages of titles! And best of all, they’re offering a week-long free trial of the service, although I don’t know how long that’s gonna last. Check it out if you’re so inclined. (Hulu)
