I consider myself a zombie purist. They are shuffling, rotting, undead husks. They don’t run. They don’t climb. And they don’t roll on Shabbos. But can they love? Yes, apparently.

That’s the questioned asked in this trailer for Warm Bodies which seems like a charming and inventive addition to the genre. This does for zombies what Edward Scissorhands did for freaky scissor-handed people. It’s not the groanworthy Twilight-ification that we all expected. Just total fun and has John Malkovich and an undead Rob Corddry in addition to Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer in the lead roles of zombie and the girl who inspires his heart to beat again. Hate on it if you have to, but at least they aren’t fast zombies.

What young girl doesn’t dream of getting passed around like a doobie between two stoners? Actress Blake Lively must be intrigued by the prospect, because she’s the current front-runner to play the female lead, Ophelia, in Oliver Stone‘s new drama, The Savages.

The film is about two potheads in Laguna Beach who might ultimately be played by Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch. A badass Mexican drug cartel kidnaps Ophelia, forcing the two top dealers to work for them. My understanding is that nobody cries, “mellow out man,” and Neil Patrick Harris remains uninvolved.

Stone’s first-first choice for Ophelia was Jennifer Lawrence, who chose to play Katniss in The Hunger Games instead, which is thrilling news if you’re anxiously awaiting the next Twilight-y series. However, Stone might not get his second choice either, because Lively is also in talks to star as Glinda the Good Witch in Sam Raimi‘s Oz: The Great and Powerful. Will he have to “settle” for plain ol’ Olivia Wilde or Teresa Palmer?

Man, all this casting talk is making me tense. *Takes Bong Hit* (Variety)

Teresa Palmer is in talks to star opposite Nicholas Hoult in the zombie love story Warm Bodies. Which means she will most likely also end up dating him.

The Jonathan Levine-directed Warm Bodies is described as Twilight meets Shaun Of The Dead. Or “whatever that means” as described by me. The story follows a tormented zombie who befriends the girlfriend of one of his victims. Palmer will play the girlfriend who also happens to be the daughter of a military leader who is growing tired of constantly fighting off the undead.

Just like the way I grow tired of fighting off all those young ninjas trying to make a name for themselves. Alas I am bound by ancient duty. The enchanted relic lives here!! You hear me, ninjas!?!!! (THR)

Since the most desirable female name in young Hollywood (Jennifer Lawrence) has split from The Savages to run to Hunger Games, director Oliver Stone, being the pragmatist that he is, has reached out to the next three most popular actresses on the planet, per Deadline and Variety reports.

Falling back onto Abbie Cornish, Blake Lively and Teresa Palmer should work out just fine as those are high-profile names for what’s becoming a very high-profile project. All three actresses are reportedly reading for the part of O, the girlfriend of two pot dealers who gets kidnapped and held for ransom on account of their shady behavior. Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch have been cast as the two boyfriends, with Benicio del Toro and possibly Selma Hayek signing on to play principals from the rival drug cartel.

No single frontrunner for the desired role of O has been stated. In fact, it’s likely that this trio of actresses is not even exhaustive, as Deadline is getting into the mix and saying that they hear Stone is inclined to handpick at unknown for the part.

In summation, the part of O definitely won’t be played by Jennifer Lawrence. It might be played by Abbie Cornish, Teresa Palmer, or Blake Lively. Or another well-known young actress. Or it could be played by someone we’ve never heard of.

While this sounds like a bit of a mess, it underlines the fact that The Savages has enough weight behind it that it can do what it damn well pleases at this point, so it will be interesting to see which direction the never-predictable Oliver Stone takes this project. Stay tuned, I guess.

Boy, they just don’t make ‘80s movies like they used to. Not like the good old days of the ‘90s. The Wedding Singer and Can’t Hardly Wait were much more like the ‘80s movies that inspired them. Even Hot Tub Time Machine. That was bad, but it got the ‘80s formula right.

Take Me Home Tonight is the classic story of a shy, unpopular guy who wants a shot with his high school dream girl. It’s already after college graduation, but everyone’s back in town for a party. Matt’s (Topher Grace) big plan? Tell Tori (Teresa Palmer) he works at Goldman Sachs, when he really works at Suncoast Video.

That’s it? Lie about your job? Just to get her phone number (that’s really all he wants)? In the ‘80s, the big scheme was buying the popular girl for a month or at least borrowing her panties. They don’t even make Tori an ironically desirable bitch. Here in the ‘00s we don’t have unlikable romantic leads.

Matt went to MIT but doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life, so he’s not getting a high paying job. Dude, that’s the ‘90s slacker mentality, not the ‘80s. The clothes and the hair are cute and the girls look great but this movie is made by ‘90s kids who think they get the ‘80s but they don’t.

There are a few funny parts but most of it is hipster humor, like look how retro we are but really we’re just playing at it. Matt’s twin sister Wendy (Anna Faris) knows all of Matt’s schtick so she says everything he’s going to say at the same time, including spontaneous profanity. They both know Barry’s(Dan Fogler) schtick too so they narrate it from a distance. Barry and Matt lip sync “Straight Outta Compton,” including the N word. Because they’re actually white.

Demetri Martin is by far the funniest thing in the movie. He’s in two scenes as a wheelchair bound high school success story. His brand of humor works on its own, even in the middle of this. Barry agreeing to let a woman’s husband watch them do it ends up being funny for an easy joke, as does Barry trying to talk dirty to her.

The romance is actually sweet, but it takes a yuppie banker party and carefree yard hopping to get there. Wendy’s D-bag boyfriend Kyle (Chris Pratt) actually makes good at one point. Matt’s dad, Bill (Michael Biehn), delivers a decent, but in now way profound, message. Just take a shot. Do something! Then he really overdoes the gun metaphor.

There’s a reason this movie took four years and two different titles to come out. They had the best of intentions but it just doesn’t work no matter how they spin it.

Are you ready for more Mad Max? Well, ask your local weatherman to make it happen. He alone has the power to get the forth installment of this series underway, because Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller is ready to shoot in January 2012… unless there’s rain.

“We will restart pre-production later this year and begin early next year—weather permitting,” Miller said acknowledging the year-long delay he and Warner Bros. had agreed on. “We’ve built the vehicles. We’ve designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. It’s all ready to go. We just wait.”

This film has been in a pre-production post-apocalypse for years and years. I know everything’s in place, and that Tom Hardy (Inception) and Charlize Theron are locked in, though previously attached Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four) is now driving away from this movie on her motorcycle. Still, somehow I get the feeling this is never gonna happen, especially if rain is gonna stop them. Would rain stop Max Rockatansky from road-battling Bubba and Toecutter? (The Playlist)

They don’t make ‘80s movies like they used to, but I don’t think they made girls like Teresa Palmer in the ‘80s so it balances out. In Take Me Home Tonight, Palmer plays Tori Fredericking, the ‘80s icon of a dream girl. Matt (Topher Grace) tries to impress her with a façade of money and fancy cars. Of course he’ll learn that superficial things don’t impress women at all.

Tori is an all American girl but Palmer is an Aussie. She speaks with a perfect American accent in the movie, but we got to hear the real Oz when we interviewed her. As the cast reunited for a press junket, they also screened the new music video in which they re-enact classic scenes from ‘80s movies. Palmer gets to do Weird Science, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and more.

Q: You got to do some classic scenes just for the music video.

Teresa Palmer: Phoebe Cates, yes, Ghostbusters, Splash I got to be. Sixteen Candles and Breakfast Club.

Q: But the sexy ones, the Kelly LeBrock shirt and the bikini, how did you feel about those?

TP: Awful. It’s very exposing and it’s quite vulnerable as an actor to take your gear off and only be posing in underwear or a bikini so I couldn’t really watch those parts.

Q: I still run into girls who like the superficial cars and high paying jobs. Why haven’t they learned from the ‘80s movies?

TP: Oh, I don’t know. I think a lot of girls are into superficial things but for the most part, the ones I know at least are more attracted to the endearing men with the good heart and the beautiful inner self. I don’t find all those material things appealing. In fact I almost feel like that puts me off of a man if he has a very flashy car or an amazing house that’s all designer. I just find that very unappealing.

Q: Are you excited about Mad Max: Fury Road?

TP: Well, I’m not doing Mad Max. It’s on hiatus at the moment and I was in negotiations on that film but ended up pulling out to do I am Number Four and I’m not sure what’s happening with the project but I would love to work with George Miller at some stage. We were supposed to work together on Justice League of America a few years ago.

Q: You could’ve had an awesome leather post-apocalyptic outfit.

TP: That would’ve been amazing. It’s a brilliant script, the new Mad Max. I think it’s going to be the best Mad Max yet.

Q: What has this rise to success been like for you?

TP: Look, it feels as though it’ taken a while and there are peaks and valleys in every career. I’ve had films fall apart on me. I’ve been fired from a movie before. It’s difficult as an actor. It’s a hard profession and you just have to have a thick skin and keep working towards your goal. I’m excited about the momentum right now but you never know when that’s going to end so I’m just trying to not let my work define wh I am. When I have a clear sense of self and that I’m rich in other areas in my life apart from work is when I’m the happiest.

Q: How do you find that sense of self?

TP: I spend a lot of time with people that I love, my friends and I write, I journal, I scrapbook, I take photographs, I walk with my dog, Luna Palmer. We go hiking and I also live a very health conscious lifestyle. I’m eating very healthy and go to the gym. It’s important to get out of my head because you spend a lot of time waiting for the phone to call. It can be quite exhausting and it can be anxious at times.

Q: What is your Hollywood life like?

TP: My Hollywood life is when I’m doing junkets and walking on the red carpet and films. That’s very challenging, more so than I ever anticipated it would be. I thought that it would be a walk in the park being an actor in films, but it’s quite trying but also incredibly enriching and exciting, overwhelming all at the same time.

Q: How is it trying?

TP: It’s just not having the stability on knowing where your next job is and living a nomad lifestyle, traveling around like a gypsy. It’s hard to feel connected to a home because you’re always getting uprooted. There’s also enormous pressure on you by studios and directors. It can be hard but the benefits far outweigh the negatives in my eyes. I’m just so blessed to be doing what I’m doing and I really enjoy it.

The spiritual sequel to “That 70′s Show,” Take Me Home Tonight, is ready to rock with a new red-band trailer that offers a look at 1980′s style debauchery. Car theft, drugs, sex, and trampolining without a license are all put on display this time around. This isn’t that much more extreme than the previous trailer but it’s definitely more willing to have a good time. You can tell because it’s wearing a necktie as if it were a bandana.

Spider-Man 3 should have launched Topher Grace onto the A-list. But then people saw the movie. He’s been laying lowish these last few years, and now ready to return to what he does best… previous decade-based comedy. This time the “That 70′s Show” star is taking on the 80′s with Take Me Home Tonight. He plays a recent MIT grad whose unsure about his future. Naturally, he takes a job at Suncoast Video while figuring himself out. Until the day his high school crush walks in to buy a copy of Cocktail. She invites him and his loser friends to a party. What happens next? Decade-specific hijinx, of course.

Hmm… expensive education, arrested emotional development, video store knowledge. I think the logical next step is for Topher’s character to get a job at Screen Junkies.
